  1. I have PMed you, RealityBites (I am Flames Mummy! )
  2. That will keep you occupied for a while! Excellent!
  3. Woo hoo! Will we be able to see a selection of the photos K9? I would love to see more than just the winning photos!
  4. Hi Annette, Cane toad poison can kill a small/young dog. If the poison gets in their eyes, it can blind them. My dog used to love chasing them as a pup, and she got sprayed on her back leg. She licked off the poison (I guess it was burning her skin) and she nearly died - she was extremely sick for a couple of weeks. It's strange that she has dried toads.... have you checked your backyard for dead toads? Could someone be killing them and throwing them over the fence? You need to deter her from them. You might be better off posting this in the Training section to get some advice on how to stop her. Cheers jbbb
  5. Hi All, I have now sent out emails with directions to those people who are coming. If you do not receive the email, please PM me. See you there!!
  6. K9: yes, but as this isnt always practical, I recommend anyine not wanting to train in prey drive be the master of the TOT.... Okay, so in that case the dog will have one person who is the love of their life and the rest of the family are above them in the pack order, so will obey the rest, but just not in drive? Sorry about the 'love of their life' comment, but I just couldnt think of the best way to phrase that! :p Okay, thanks for clarifying that. I will try and keep the rest of my questions for the info night on Friday! :p
  7. I wonder who that could be?? :p Ok, yes that makes sense.... so if you want every member of the household to have the dog's respect, then they should all be doing the training in drive? K9: remember they have seen & met other dogs, they just dont go nuts for them, what do they do? ignore them... Ah ha! The light goes on! So in the time after the first fear impact period and 14 months, you allow them to meet other neutral dogs, but not allow them to play with the other dogs? Gotcha! Edited to make sense!
  8. Hi K9, as always your answers make me want to ask more questions! :p When training in Drive, should only one person be the 'reward holder'? What if (as in our case) we would both like to be the reward holder? Should we both be doing the training in drive? Or is it only possible to have one reward holder? I am really interested in the psychology of the dog when you dont allow pups to play with another dog, and only then start to neutralise the dog with other neutral dogs until after 14 months old. How does the dog react when it is initally brought into an area with another dog? Does it still try and playbow (and the usual dog incentives to play?). Or does it just completely ignore the other dog, since you are the only thing with value? There is just so much more to dog training than I ever thought existed! Thanks!!
  9. Okay, here's an update: Due to a couple of people not being able to make it, we now have a couple of extra places available at the info night. Please PM me if you're interested....
  10. I have been following this thread as I am planning to get my own little bundle of terror in the next year or so.... Ok, so you do drive training 3 weeks, of 3 times per day, 3 minutes per time 7 days per week. The pup should have no walks, obedience, play or toys the rest of the time, so that YOU are the best thing in the world. Is the theory that the 3 times a day drive session will tire the pup out enough to not need other stimulation? (like the pup will sleep or be calm the rest of the time?).
  11. So sorry to hear that peibe. I hope your OH recovers quickly and completely. Thanks for letting me know.
  12. Hi Everyone, I have had a lot of interest in this info night, but not many people have actually paid K9 yet. As we are only 11 days out from the info night, I would like to get numbers etc confirmed, so please send your payment to K9 asap. If you have not received a PM with information on how to proceed, please let me know and I will send instructions on payment etc. Cheers jbbb
  13. Last time I went for an extended bike ride I ended up with blood blisters in unmentionable places That's why I asked if we could swap riders part way though... otherwise I'd probably end up doing the last half of the ride in agony!
  14. Thanks all for the info. I have just read all the links. Wow, 2 hours of bike riding.... my backside is hurting just thinking about it. Can someone please provide some info on the obedience part? What is required? Thanks. Sorry for the questions - I tried searching the NSWCC website and couldnt find any info on the ET...
  15. We are thinking of doing the ET in August this year, too, but we havent started any training yet. She does get taken for a run every morning, though.... I think the training would help me more than her! Does is have to be someone who is a member of the NSWCC that actually rides the bike? And can you swap riders part way through?
  16. Alright, I need a Divani fix!! What has she been up to today??
  17. wyvernblade. I cant help with suggestions, but your posts are brilliant!
  18. Good one! I've gotta get back out there and have another go at riding with her... might try and do the ET this year! I'm sure it wont be a problem for Flame - I just have to train myself to sit in a bike saddle for that long!!
  19. There is a thread on springers here: Springers
  20. A springer is an attachment to the bike - it kinda hangs off the side of the bike and has a spring on it. You attach the harness to the springer. The idea of the spring is that if the dog lunges to the side, the spring absorbes the energy and you dont go flying off your bike! I have seen booties for sale at the Pet Barn in West Gosford....
  21. Dear Divani, it sounds like you have had a very busy day! I hope that Rex did not tease you through the glass!! I am glad to hear that your Mum is home and keeping you busy with show training. You will have to give me some tips for the ring! We are all looking forward to seeing some more photos of you!! Your Mum sounds very proud of you! Keep up the good work Flame
  22. We dont have footpaths... and unfortunately it's dark at the moment and we dont have decent street lights either.... I tried Flame on the oval one weekend with a harness attached to the 'springer' and it was pretty good, but she was positioned kind of behind me so I couldnt really see what was going on.... I'd prefer to be able to see her, so will be trying out the flat collar and possibly prong (if she decides to pull). Has anyone used booties to protect their dog's feet?
  23. BUMPing to get it back on the first page of the training section!!
  24. For those people who have shown interest, I have just PMed you with more info on how to confirm your spot/s. If you haven't received a PM, please let me know.... Over the weekend we installed a flood light in the back yard so that we can actually see some dogs in action on the night! ;)
