Do Vets Do Local Anaesthetic Procedures At All?
jbbb replied to MolassesLass's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Last year when Flame sliced her leg open and needed stitches, it was done under a local anasthetic. The vet just got us to hold her as the local when in, then we put her on the table and Flame watched for a while as the stitches went in (until she got bored then she just lay her head down and waited to be told she could get off the table!). Earlier this year she nearly sliced the pad off her foot, and that required a general anasthetic as she had sliced an artery and it was very fiddly work for the poor vet who had to do internal stitches as well. -
Oh no - I shouldnt have read that at work.

Oh no. I am so sorry to hear about Clo. She was obviously a very special girl. Hugs to you Dave.

Oh, poor Flintoff. Such a big handsome boy... RIP Flintoff.

What you eat affects your body-chemistry. It travels through the blood stream to the organs and muscles and every cell in the body, and that includes the brain. Feeding inadequate* food not only has a short-term affect on energy levels, but will affect longevity, moods and long-term health. * I am in no way implying that the food you are feeding your dog is inadequate (as I dont know anything about your brand of dog food). This was a general statement about food and how it affects the body. And just like people, some dogs react differently to different ingredients, so maybe you should try something else if your dog's energy levels are fluctuating? We feed our dog BARF and she is healthy, energetic, has a shiny coat, her breath doesnt smell, her teeth are clean etc. I couldnt be happier with her condition.

I just want to say good for you, Paola. You sound like a caring, responsible owner!!

Hi Paola, A dogs season means that she is ready to mate with another dog and have puppies. The season will last about 3 weeks, and you need to take precautions during that time. Just keep her away from other dogs - dont let her outside by herself, as dogs can jump very high fences. Keeping her inside is the best thing to do, but remember that she needs to be given attention - you cant just lock her in the laundry by herself the whole time or she will get very lonely. You should also make sure she gets outside for toilet breaks. You can take her outside when she is in season, but just make sure that no other dogs get to her. She may also want to be with you more, and be a bit snappy with other dogs. Good luck!

I agree - totally selfish.

Flame loves a bath! We have a hose that connects to the tap, so we wet her all over with that, shampoo, rinse with the hose and repeat. Then a good towel dry. The hose in the bathtub is great because we dont use much water.

Excellent teeth pics!! Here's a pic of me with Flame which shows her teeth pretty well!
-
Yes, he looks a little worried!! EmilyHoward, do you have any pics of Ziggy in drive training or showing her teeth?? (since we've turned this into a 'show your dogs teeth' thread, it seems only fair that you go off topic in your own topic! )

Those pics are great!!

Evil stafford??? I've never met one!
-
Well, that's a bit of a personal question, isnt it? :p :D In answer to your actual question - about 90% of the pics we have FD is only wearing shorts. So if he's posting a pic with himself in it, then it's likely to be one with his shirt off..... and he loves posting pics! BTW I am probably partly to blame, as I never ask him to put his shirt on! Edited to make sense!
-
FD does training in drive with no shirt on.... his torso is usually covered in scratches. If we didnt have a leaping dog, I would be very, very suspicious of all those scratches!!

Myszka, that place sounds perfect! But, is is possible to book out the entire place? (ie no-one else allowed on the property) Do dogs have to sleep outside the pyramids as well? If so, we'd be camping (Flame would drive everyone nuts with whining and barking all night if she couldnt be inside!!)
-
I was sort of thinking of training cover some (maybe not all) of the following: obedience agility tracking (SAR?) detection herding ???? not necessarily limited to IPO as such.... what are others thoughts on this? Obviously an IPO trainer would be great for a lot of topics, but the amount of people interested may be limited if the topics were limited to IPO? Maybe we should work out who the training is aimed at? Also, would there be some sort of limit on the previous training of the dogs? Obviously a dog who has done a CDX is going to be slowed down by a dog that has not done any training at all. And if a dog doesnt have titles at all, how do you determine whether or not it can attend? (it might be well trained, but not have actually done any competing). Sorry... just thinking out loud really.

I was wondering how many throat lozenges the guy needed to shout across open spaces to that many people for a whole week!!
-
Yup, understood that this would be high level training. I was really wondering about having more than one trainer who gave training in their specialist areas, like RealityBites suggested.
-
Myszka, with the training in Czech Republic - was it just one trainer for the whole week?
-
Me too, I'll help!!
-
I would DEFINITELY be up for something like that!

Hugs to you, BullyLuva. Cassie looks so content in that pic soaking up the sun. RIP little Cassie.

And the cute and snuggly dobe is in the lead by a nose! Woo hoo! What great focus! What fantastic attention! What an awesome dobe!!! (hmmm... perhaps I'm a little biased, but I'm allowed to be!) I must admit that they're all great shots! But c'mon everyone and vote for Flame!! -
Hey, thanks K9 Force for choosing one of our (admittidly many) pics!! We had SO much fun creating the pics, and Flame loves it!! The hardest part of taking pics of Flame training in Drive is trying to get photos that arent too blurry! There are some great pics there!! Congratulations to Bosleys_Angel for the loose leash walking - that's really impressive!! to everyone who puts time and effort into their dogs - based on these pics the dogs obviously enjoy it! And thanks to K9 Force for helping us have happy dogs!!
