  1. Tango doesn't wear a coat and is outside from 6am till 7pm at night up here in the hills NW of Melbourne...can get down to -4C but he has a big kennel with a hessian bag over the door, plenty of blankets inside and plays zoomies in the mud a lot during the day <sigh>...I also feed him cooked rice and oatmeal with his evening meal in winter to keep his blood a bit warmer, and add Weetbix and warm milky water to both breakfast and dinner...that works well - his coat thickens up quite a bit and gets longer as winter progresses. Never seems to be too cold but is harder to keep weight on in winter.
  2. If it works, I wouldn't rock the boat - stable is good. My previous GSP Cadence could only tolerate 8% fat - anything higher could only be tolerated for 3 days at the most..... I fed chicken mince (cooked with all the fat skimmed off), Supercoat Adult dry and Weetbix - he lived on that for 8.5 years and did very well on it without another attack.
  3. Are you in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne (Bayswater, Boronia, Ferntree Gully) by any chance? Sounds like exactly the same MO of the people who robbed me twice when I lived there - just too similar for words......if so, PM me and I'll tell you where they lived .....I had to track them down once and they went to jail then, but they would be out by now...
  4. I'm with Gretel!! I've supported lots of dog clubs over the years, but I've also saved a lot of petrol money.....consequently my dog's titles are never achieved all that fast......no idea how to energise you Ash...
  5. Tango howls at sirens and also at sounds of a particular pitch...I was recording a song/ringtone from one phone to another and I now have a howling serenade along with the ringtone on the second phone
  6. Right place, right lighting, right moment!!!! Love the acrobatics and the expressions!!
  7. My dogs have always been left outside during the day, mostly in a secure dogrun (mainly for my peace of mind for the garden or to keep 2 dogs separate while I wasn't home)...my GSP is left in the dogrun while I work - and I have to be away from home for 13 hours a day...both he and my previous dog have survived fine so long as they have a protected area, a warm box and lots of water....and that was from the age of 14 weeks....Tango always hase and still does at the age of 4.5 years get 2 breakfasts and dinner (5.10am, 5.50am and after I get home). Just make sure that the yard or run is secure and puppy proof and maybe if you have a friendly neighbour they could keep an eye out during the day. You should be fine......
  8. I found with older dogs, and even when Cadence had cancer, that adding 2 Weetbix to each of his meals helped keep the weight on him.....worth a tgry and they seem to really like the taste.
  9. Used a Canon 400D with the telephoto lens in the kit (75 - 300) on the Program Setting with single point focus on 200ISO. The cloud background made all the difference I think - I'm not sure it would have worked as well with clear sky in the background - I think a lot of it was being in the right place at the right time (ie: sitting in the car on the other side of the street as I drove past ) Just love the way they were playing and stayed in the same area without shooting away...... Best bird shots I've ever managed! PC, sorry to hear that you got damage....we were out and about in the north central area and rang the Bureau in the morning (twice for different storms) to warn them of the severity they were likely to see as the storms moved southeast - we watched both storms from their genesis but didn't follow them in......
  10. Pretty happy with these shots...well actually I'm stoked!! so I thought I'd share....
  11. I know I'm dreadfully behind - I've been taking photos but haven't had the chance to upload them...will try and do that (hopefully) tonight if we get back early enough...I love the photos everyone is posting - it's opened my eyes to completely different perspectives......some ways of viewing the world, that I'd never imagined....
  12. Mate and I have the 400D with kit lenses - perfectly happy with them for the price we paid!! Photos have won competitions and ended up in calendars and on various websites - so the lenses can't be too bad
  13. Tango adores avocado & lettuce. My first Dobe loved figs so much that she used to climb the tree to get them - no kidding! I had to climb up to get her out once because she'd got about 5' up it but couldn't work out how to get back down......
  14. Trying to catch up - have the photos - just haven't got them off the camera yet, they are coming - just been ridiculously busy...love the 'old fashioned' Hills Hoist shots - reminds me of my childhood!! Crazy Daisy, you might want to get your tree checked - 'bleeding' can sometimes mean borers....
  15. Shell, the shot was taken from the car - we please to see a harness on - the first I've ever seen on the back of a ute!! Love your pile of frangipanis!!! Can almost smell them from here.....take me back to being a kid in Sydney... I love the different methods of processing that are coming to the fore as the month wears on......this is real creativity - I look at some images and wonder how you saw them to photograph - as I would have missed them....I'm going to keep doing this every day for a year.......... redangel, what camera and lens are you using - those passionflowers are so sharp you could almost cut yourself on them!
  16. Have finally managed to sit down to do photos from the last 2 days... Day 20 - kelpie on the way to another day in the office... Day 21...folded cirrus from my block
  17. Today we have grevilleas.....I took lots and lots of photos, and seeing as I can't put all 67 of my favourites up , I've chosen 2 of them...
  18. wow to everyone's creativity - if you go back through the thread, you can see how it's developing and becoming more insightful!!! Have had an incredibly busy couple of days (got home at 1am this morning so that pretty much wrote yesterday off) so have a pic of an old fashioned summer sky (same as in my childhood) taken from the front paddock on Saturday and an optical illusion from today.....
  19. An image that I had to do a lot of work on for advertising, but I'm thrilled with the outcome.......I never realised how much fun you could have with Photoshop!!! from this... to this....
  20. 1 x GSP. House yard is 550 sq m (when I'm not home and most of winter except weekends), rest of property is 2 paddocks totalling 2.75 acres - he only gets out of the house paddock into the nut paddock when I'm with him as a thumping great tree took a fence down and we haven't managed to cut the tree up and get it off the fence yet.
  21. Got home too late last night to post...so here is Day 13 - plantings along the front fence of the school in Trentham Today, after about an hour of insanity and acrobatics, the corellas got close enough for me to get a shot of this acrobat - the 'special effect' is courtesy of the fly screen
  22. tlc, I love your 3rd shot!! I love the creativity still coming out 12 days later!!! Bouquets to everyone!! I'm astounded that there's so much to look at in the world and how set we get in what we see - this is a real learning experience....I love everyone's photos - thank you for sharing them!
  23. Day 12... Tango, just because he's gorgeous...and I never get to take photos without him in my face!
  24. Two shots from me today demonstrating 2 different sides of Melbourne........ Kangaroo Paw in the early morning (Clifton Hill) Street art in the afternoon (Brunswick)
