  3. All my dogs have slept on the bed from the time they could physically climb up by themselves (except Tango - I dragged out a suitcase for him to use as a step from the 2nd night he was home :D - no way do you ruin them - if he will do what he is told at other times, and you are the leader of your pack, there isn't a problem - it's personal choice....don't worry about it...just enjoy his company.
  4. Day 8 - fern gully - Wombat State Forest (Victoria where we quite often get sub-zero temps in the area, not tropical Qld)
  5. Day 8 - fern gully - Wombat State Forest (Victoria where we quite often get sub-zero temps in the area, not tropical Qld)
  6. 7th January - Sunrise over Mt Macedon, Victoria) on my way to work @ 5.55am
  7. I'm a bit late starting.... Day 1 we drove 800kms on a stormchase, and this was the best shot of the day just around the corner from home... Day 2 the band working on the structure of a riff (mate's in the denim shirt) the other pics are on the iphone which is updating, so they will come tomorrow
  8. NO chance of him forgetting you - ever - - Tango goes to 'holiday camp' 2 - 3 times a year, and when we are O/S it's for up to 6 weeks at a time.....doesn't matter how long we are away, invariably the night before we get back he starts being an absolute pest whinging and carrying on.....and he's all over me like a rash as soon as he sees me.......
  9. Thanks guys - will give Tuffoot a go and see how it works.. Thanks for your help.
  10. morning all, does anyone know of a topical pad hardener of the sort that they use for racing greyhounds or gundogs working over rocky terrain that you can get in Australia? I know that you can get a couple of products online from the UK but was wondering if there was something available locally. ta heaps!!
  11. Can be triggered by stress - both yours or the dog's (Tango used to get it when he went to holiday camp, but he doesn't get stressed if I leave him there now - so problem has gone) or could be a mild case of pancreatitis....check the fat levels of what you are feeding......Cadence (previous GSP) used to be fine so long as his food had 8% fat or below...anything over that and he'd start off with the same symptoms as colitis and I'd have to cycle back through rice and yoghurt, and then rice, boiled chicken and yoghurt......till I got him back onto his 'normal diet' (Supercoat was about the right % of fat iirc)......
  12. I've always used a combination of flea powder (from Woolworths/Coles) and the purple Mortein flea and egg spray killer and hand picking fleas ever day off my dogs.....hot water in a bowl with some eucalyptus disinfectant in it...lie dog between your legs, roll them onto their backs and pick fleas out either by fingers or with a flea comb, drop into water and watch them die instantly!!!! I've always done this because I was paranoid about bombs (being concentrated chemical) - in a month I cleared a unit that was flea infested in Melbourne......I've also sprayed parts of the yard with the same Mortein spray...no fleas anywhere......
  13. Tango doesn't get under blankets, but he has his blanket on the bed...and occasionally wears the doona over him if I get too hot during the night....he's a dog who doesn't feel the cold....
  14. Teething will do it, not feeling well will do it too...
  15. A couple of small bands have got to Trentham...mate's cat was running around today catching them...at my place just out of town there are only a few and Tango hasn't even noticed them....yet. I hope the Corellas like them!
  16. Interestingly, a few years ago, before Trish got the shelter started the Council removed the van that had been donated to the Ranger who was doing all of the pet rescues and stopped rescue in its tracks in the area. Wasn't long after that that PH shelter got itself going....not sure why the council does this to rescue.....
  17. Kaffy, I always carry polaramine (or other antihistamine tablets for me as well as Tango - he's allergic to Euro wasps)...I'm allergic to all sorts of things soI carry an epipen and have for the past 10 years since I ended up in hospital) and I have had a couple of times when I have started to go into anaphylaxis, but 1 Polaramine tab taken as soon as I am aware that I am having a dangerous reaction will stop the reaction in me in a few minutes...I'd carry them for him as well. He's looking sooooooooooooo much better!!!!
  18. I'd up the colour saturation on no 1 some more and see how vibrant it can be!! I reckon that's got some serious potential with a bit more punch!
  19. I love the Canon 550D with the twin image stabilised lenses...but then I wouldn't ever use anything but a Canon, so I'm biased.... example of photos (horsey) here taken wtih the 550D http://www.facebook.com/AUSSKY#!/album...mp;id=654462778
  20. My GSP's have had varying sized runs...from 12' x 12', 30' x 8' to 550sqm (yes I know that's a bit over the top....) and have always been perfectly happy...Tango's next run will be considerably smaller than 550sqm....and back down to something like 30' x 8'. I'm gone from 5.45am to 7pm each day and got around the feeding issue by giving Tango (and still do at 5 years) 1st breakfast at 5am, out into the run at 5.45 with his second breakfast, then when I get home, he got a small snack, and then had his dinner - no problems at all with being away that long every day. I would always keep a GSP behind 6' fences when I'm not there because they actually have springs instead of legs and can go over a 1.2m fence with their eyes shut (while asleep.....) - mind you, I live in the country and we don't have 5' fences, but when I lived in Melbourne I had him in a run because it meant that I got to keep the garden too
  21. Tango hates the heat and is more at home in temps of -2C to +10C......he has plenty of shade and an undercover area outside my bedroom, plenty of water and usually a breeze - fortunately doesn't often get to 37C at home...however, in fire season, if there's the hint of a possible problem or fireban day, he comes to work with me and spends his day in a crate in despatch in front of an evaporative cooler <g>
  22. Tango wakes up when the alarm goes off....then he waits for me to stir and turns around and shoves his nose under my neck and snuffles contentedly for a few minutes - he won't move till I get out of bed, then he comes out with me...if I sleep in, he sleeps in (I love it when they grow into the 'sleeping in with you' thing!!!! )
  23. My previous GSP Cadence had the occasional bout of pancreatitis (after the 1st really bad one at 18 months old) and if he ended up with a fat content that was too high (might take 2 days if he was eating a slightly different diet to the 'controlled' diet I had him on), the minute he threw up like that, it was a standard routine that he would go onto boiled rice and yoghurt for 12 hours or 1 poo whichever came first, then have boiled chicken breast added and then 24 hours later go back onto his normal diet. he could tolerate 8% fat and the only time I really had a problem was if we were travelling and I couldn't keep his normal meals frozen.... it just became a routine...don't panic...just work out a routine for times like this and stick to it...it makes life a lot easier because you don't have to keep making decisions each time, you simply give them gut rest by going back to the rice and yoghurt and then coming back to normal....
  24. I've used chicken mesh on the boundary fencing to stop Tango going through after the roos or next door's cat, and his day run is 6' deer fencing (not taught) with chicken wire on the inside as well...no escapes in 2 years once I'd sorted out a couple of gate and digging issues...
  25. Mum, mum - it got me!!! There's a monster back there spitting at me...HEEELLLLPPPPPP!!!!!
