That's ok - It took me about 50 reads of SG's method before I understood it enough to try it :p. Then I had someone show me when I got stuck... and now i'm still not sure 100%.... but I found if you read it and processed the info, it made sense in the end :p

I use Susan Garett's 2x2 method and found it a really quick way of teaching my dog to weave. It helps them get their speed up too!!! I've been slack, so it's taken me longer than it should . A lot of people use a combination of the 2x2 and channel weaves. I love the 2x2 for getting the entries right ETA - this is my interpretation of SG method. I think somewhere in my 'lack' of understanding I have turned the method into a part 2x2, part channel weave method. I am up to "closing the gap" on Kinta and adding more poles with Leo. Only been doing it a short while and like I said, not every night. Plan to do lots over Easter. I am very pleased with the progress with this method for Leo aka "Mr Slow poke" in the weavers (watch our vids to see his pathetic attempts!).... I think it really does speed them up - and he doesn't even focus on me anymore Oh and do let me know if i've made a complete shambles of it all!!!! 2x2_weaving_method.doc

I can't believe she hasn't posted already!!! I did warn her if she didn't post Tess' results I would come in and do it for her :happydance: Many of the Vic obedience triallers would have met Arya and her GSD Tess.... many more would know how they have both struggled in the ring to get Tess' Novice title. Tess is a lovely worker and for those who have seen her trial at both training and trials, it was a sheer disappointment that Tess just couldn't hold it together for the trials - be it leaving the ring in heeling or anything like that. Arya kept at it, plugged away, and yesterday - all the hard work paid off. I didn't see all of their run throughs - but with 2 second places it can hardly be that bad On top of that it looks like she also scored highest Frankston member in the PM show . WTG Arya and Tess - You really deserved this CD title - and may you enter open, with guns blazing and ready to beat the pants off Mr Leo :cheer:

Belated congratulations to everyone who has posted recently!!! Special mention to SCOOTA and PTOLOMY for gaining their OC!!!!!! One can only dream of getting that far
-
 Surely Diesel CAN'T be naughty Gold D?! When I met him he was sweet as pie :D.... Hmm... Cosmolo might need to get her claws stuck into the two ferals of THAT puppy party......
-
I've been trying for a little bit - but my guys think that they are only allowed to put their front paws in my lap!!! I haven't been able to get them to jump into my (sitting) lap yet!!
-
I never saw this thread before!!!!! Must try some of the veggies! Ptolomy - is the pumpkin and sweet potato raw? My guys love the all natural pet treats... and something I got from Erin on DOL once..... liver puffs or something?!?! Better than the ordinary liver?!?!?!?
-
Well done JulesP!!! I saw miss Poppy today and she is looking great everyone!!! Great focus and such a happy little camper
-
That's fantastic FHRP!!! WTG!!! I hope we can also get those nice scores when Miss K hits the scene!!! Thanks for the compliments about Leo's clips too... I'm embarassed by them - I think my handling is terrible :D.... obedience is more my thin methinks!
-
Basically taught it much the same as Ptolomy - but with a few extra steps for the empty can - initially a normal retrieve, then on the floor with fridge door open, then on the base of the fridge (taking out the fruit/ vegie compartments) then on the shelves..... Don't know if he can still do it - haven't done it for so long!!! ETA: Ness - i'm lucky - I take the rope away and he knows that he can't go near the fridge then :p

How Did You Teach Your Dog To Hold 2o/2o?
leopuppy04 replied to laffi's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Heaps of good advice here!!! *pulls out notebook to make notes* I know it's not the thing for agility Laffi - but actually making Kinta go slower helped her with her 2o2o.... it helped her to understand a little better exactly what the criteria was. But - I found the best way to teach her 2o2o was with the bar next to the A and getting her to jump over the bar and do her contact that way.... it really helped me get distance too. Trying to build up the tuggy game so that M will tug while on the A will put some of her weight on the rear feet. I think the problem is - what Siodney said - she hasn't connected the behaviour with her rear end yet and perhaps the speed she may be approaching the end. A few questions that may help: *Do you have a command such as "Paws" "two" or "wait" to get her to do her 2o2o? I find this helps a little as it clearly defines the behaviour (make sure your criteria is clear though, otherwise you have a dog creeping down to the contacts as they don't understand )... *If you are still using the target plate - how far away is it? Try experimenting a little - I found if it was too close to the contacts, the rear end would slip off because of the momentum K was coming down the obstacle.... too far away and she may jump off/ get her reward with 4 feet OFF the obstacle -
I LOVE the wubba's! I have a large material one - I got that before I saw they came in 'puppy' size. The puppy sized ones are great for training as you can stuff it in your pocket or wherever and it is quite discrete. Yet, when you pull it out the dog can still have a great tug on it - and it is quite durable too! Both my dogs love it.... and as Laffi said - you can throw it and then when they bring it back - tug with it. Very similar to the way I use the orbee, but easier to hide etc . I want to get a snuggler wubba when I can.... ie: when I have more money

That's great news SM! I have often struggled with this myself (with Leo) - who is crazy about his toys but not always in a class situation!!! Glad to hear that Ed is putting his drive to good use now - I always feel so happy when Leo goes nuts for his toys in 'public' (ie: last night... but this morning he was only 50/50 playing with me :D ).... Your guys are doing awesome also!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EV5I64OMmT8 here ya go SW - just don't laugh at the handler Ness is already grilling me!!!
-
Rather than post in 2 different threads - Leo and I had our first agility trial of the year at K9. We came away with our final pass for our NA title!!!! Leo ran great for me in all of his runs but clipped one bar in EX Jumping and OJ was a joke - but not because of the dog, but due to late calls and handler getting confused . I taped the runs, but I must say - watching my handling - i'm terrible!!!!!
-
There would have been no ducks left after mine were finished I think .... They either would have flown away or been 'retrieved' and 'squeaked' Well done Cash - that's awesome!

Can't let this thread die!!!! My mindless brag so far isn't that exciting, but I think worth saying anyway Went to agility last night - first time since the Christmas break. Took the Midget with me (aka Kinta).... I was so proud of her. Aside from doing some 2x2 weaving and I think 2 sessions of agility training over the 2 months break (and the expo demos!) she hasn't touched agility equipment since the end of Nov. She was a little star - we did all our contacts regardless of whether 'mum' was running with her or not, behind or infront of her, or out wide or close.... sometimes her rear slips off to the side, but I was thrilled with it on the whole. She is getting some nice speed too. Now all we need to do is teach her that working in front of her handler and away from her handler is a *good* thing! I was so proud of her - I think she's a natural at agility.... even our instructor said 'wow you must have trained a lot over the summer'

What Will Your Dog Work For?
leopuppy04 replied to MrsD's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Leo: Food Toys Pats/ Praise Kinta: Food Toys Pats/ Praise Leo is a food nut and it's the best way to train him at times. To build up drive, toys are great, but he is ball mad and tugging just doesn't cut it all the time. Sometimes he'll have a ball with tugging, other times he won't have a bar of it. I find this hard at times as you can produce a toy for him to play (that he loves) and he will say 'nuh'.... so obviously not rewarding . Pats he *loves* on the couch at home, but they don't really razz him up and are definitely B grade rewards . Kinta is awesome in terms of what she works for. Food is the best, probably followed closely by pats/ praise and toys fit somewhere between there. She just loves it all and is so motivated. The only trouble I have had with her is when she is just out of season, she lacks the drive she usually has and the pats/ toys sometimes just don't cut it . -
There is one with someone teaching a toller (she is yolle555's friend!).... I can't find it. Really good breakdown - using a phonebook, then chair, then wall.... ETA: Here it is
-
I like the first youtube vid ;) Might have to give that a try - Kinta can 1/2 do it
-
No idea but I'd like to know. I just told both of mine 'hugs' when they were really excited. But I can't catch them as yet :D Both are natural jumpers

Do you WANT to make this a competition :D .... Actually - if we do - can I use 2 dogs to your one?! Makes it even that way, esp given the way Ness has started the year
