How about this Reddii - take them along and cover the crate with something, leaving a small opening. Leave a container of food and a note on top of the crate saying something like: "If I am quiet please feed me" A lot of people will be quite happy to give your girl some food if she is quiet! It works quite well... who wouldn't be quiet for a yummy treat  I'm not going this year, but Laffi tempted me with the schedule, so I'm really tempted to go next year!!

Fence Pacing - Can This Behaviour Be Altered?
leopuppy04 replied to Stitch's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Sorry to pick on you TSD - but Gawd - this sounds like a certain lecturer from uni :) -
Crates are a god send whichever dog i'm not training is in their crate waiting their turn . They never know how many times I'll pull them out to do stuff, or how long the training session will be. Usually the dog in the crate whinges coz they want part of the fun, but if you ignore it, it tends to go away. Doesn't distract the dog you are working with as they want to work for you (that's what I've found).... but if it is distracting them - just work on really simple stuff

I go to club as often as I can - as you know Jules P I think a lot of work (if you know what you are doing) you can do at home..... so you don't need to go to a club  BUT... one thing you can never really recreate is the huge distraction of the ## of dogs and people milling about - agility, flyball, obedience events etc,etc which is what makes training at club so good. If my club had 'group' classes at the trialling level, I wouldn't go as often, and would probably sit out a lot except for the stays. BUT our club is (so I found out!) one of a few which has a trialling ring set up every week... and for me this is invaluable - you can make it as trial like as you wish, or have heaps of rewards. And what better way to learn than to have someone call out for you and comment on how you are going . My dogs tend to be 'perfect' in the park, but the practice ring is a great way to get those nigglies out of the way before going to an actual trial
-
Thanks Natsu chan. I didn't think she worked as well as she usually does - but what can you do considering the conditions and first trial jitters (for me and her!! LOL!). How did you go?!?! Which ring were you in? My apologies LD for getting your name wrong ... but huge congrats again!!! And I agree - CU is an awesome book

WTG Sieta!!! What a special girl you have there! Great scores!!!! Bring on Open
-
Congrats! From those clips you've shown of her, I'm not surprised though LOL - compared to those clips she was sh!thouse.... but I excused that to the rain, first trial nerves (me) and also the lack of training she's been having . We had a lovely Berner in our ring in the AM and in the PM I think he scored 98! Definitely one to watch out for... beautiful worker! Bummer Kallistar! I thought the rain kept you away. Hope you feel better soon ;).
-
I'm here, I'm here Kinta had her first Obedience trial today, and we almost considered staying in bed due to the inclement weather!!! The rain was not kind and wouldn't stay away (except when we were out of the ring!) I am pleased to announce that she gained her first pass in CCD - with a lovely score of 92, particularly considering the conditions :D. And for icing on the cake - it was topped off with a first place ;). Lots of passes today - I believe Goldieboy (?!) has a BIIIIIG brag to tell! I was also very pleased with Mr Leo's stint in the ring... he scored really well.... until he forgot what stand meant and that drop on a DOR means drop, not come to me *sigh*!

Ud Obedience - The First 2 Exercises
leopuppy04 replied to Ptolomy's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
He looks fantastic Ptolomy. Was it a Quali round?! So this is what I have to get Leo to do now :D -
There are basic behaviours you have to have first and I also wouldn't do it around a teething stage. Like Kavik - i've only taught it to adults The dog must understand how to wait, catch, hold, sit etc,etc....
-
God I have never thought about it! As I go into a turn, generally the step before the turn, I slightly turn my head in the direction I am going, which will turn my shoulders and cues the dog into what is happening. Sorry, but don't have time to think about my feet as well I might go back and have another look to see what I am doing  I sent your vid to a friend of mine pretty much saying "that's what I want".... she replied and said - "watch her footwork and do what I told you" :D :) (I have a tendency of not slowing down before a turn and losing the dog because they simply can't keep up) Excellent work Ptolomy! If you ever want an Aussie at the end of your lead...... Or hey - even train one up for UD for me?!?!?

WELL DONE Sieta with Ella!!! Those are some great scores!!! Another little brag from me today. Went to Keilor's NADAC agility trial, which was Kinta's first ever trial in anything (other than showing) and Leo's first trial in NADAC. For those of you that don't know - NADAC is just another variation of agility - usually smoother courses, and your dogs can run at a lower height if you want (both mine ran at 500 equivalent). All contact equipment is rubber... there are a few other differences but these are the main ones . SCT and places are split into height categories which is great for the smaller dogs. There are also no refusals. I was really pleased with my lot. Seems the work I've been doing with Leo is paying off as he was really eager and fast Kinta had a great time also - she too was super eager, not as fast as I expected, but that will come with experience I am sure . Both dogs were SO responsive to call off from obstacles etc :p. Results were: Leo: 1 x Novice Jumpers pass 1 x Novice Tunnelers pass. He should have got another tunnelers pass but went in the wrong end of one tunnel. His 1st novice jumpers run was a stroke of bad luck as I didn't continue running for the last jump, so he jumped while turning back to me and clipped the bar Kinta 1x Novice jumpers pass (beating Leo's time!) 2 x Novice Tunnelers pass. I was thrilled with her work and you could see her getting faster as the day went on. If we can work a little more on her confidence and just get her out there for some experience I think she will continue to improve out of sight and get some real speed behind her

Congrats Luckydog! I'll see you at Berwick with the "real" Leo this time ;) .... oh and Kinta too Fantastic score Ptolomy - well done! Well - while trying to teach Leo scent work, he thought it a good idea at the beginning stages to try and bring ALL the articles I had on the mat to me.... Thought it was quite funny My brag is that my boy likes herding again!!!! he was switching on a lot more this time with the sheep and eating less sheep patties Kinta on the other hand.... still has the attitude "sheep, what sheep?!" Even when shown what to do by another dog . What happened to my lovely herder?!?!

That is pretty amazing, I'm not sure, but it looked maybe slightly quicker than 'real speed' judging from the handler, but nonetheless the entry to the weavers was incredible at any speed and the dog was having an absolute ball. I can only dream....... I am pretty sure it's not faster than real speed. If you watch other vids by the same person. This dog "La" is truly amazing. On Silvia's site she says that La has won the WC 3 times, and quite a few times winning it by 5-6 seconds in her younger days...... so quite a fast dog!!!! Even better!!!! I'm still shaking my head at it. It's one of those things, unless you've seen it it is really hard to believe. My favourite runs:

Anything To Help Grow A Dogs Coat?
leopuppy04 replied to dogone's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I spoke to the guy yesterday - he said you can use both - dependant on what you want. I am trying the shampoo first, but will probably put my dogs on the supplement if they are in whelp/ have puppies. He said that it really does improve the dam's coat as well as her puppies, also meaning she will drop less in the long run. Try one way first and then see . If this is the one i'm thinking of though - isn't royal jelly from bees or something?! So if your dog has a reaction to bee's I've heard that you need to introduce it carefully as they may also have a reaction to this?!?! Talk to the people at groomers products - MOST helpful ! -

Just got some today - will let you know the results (since Kinta denies me the pleasure of ever growing a nice full coat except just before she is going to drop it all ) Groomers Products were wonderful to deal with!! And so close - could pick it up in person!!! -
Did you have it lying around or did you buy it?! If you bought it - where from?! Trying to think of winter activities to do

Whatevah - what type of box are you using... I can't think of stuff to use to get my dog on the box initially.....

Aim When Going To An Agility Comp
leopuppy04 replied to JulesP's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
It depends what i'm working on. If I think my dog is more than capable of passing (after walking the course) that is the aim Sometimes - it is to get through the tricky spot without any hassles Now - my aim is mainly for the dog to be running with speed and enthusiasm.... or whatever we have been training on eg: holding the wait etc. For obedience, my first ever open trial was - I just hope I stay upright and that the dog and I have fun! A pass is always icing on the cake - but I tell ya - my mantra for the last open pass was more along the lines of "please let us pass today, please let us pass today"! LOL!
