Just writing to inform anyone that may be interested in their next performance dog. The RSPCA in Burwood has a fantastic Heeler/ BC up for adoption - male, 5mths old. He is a very energetic, exuberant boy who would do fantastic in an obedience or agility home. He shows great promise for anybody who might be interested in these avenues, but will cause havoc for any owners who don't have time for him. He has a great temperament with people and dogs alike and is as sharp as nails! This little man also has awesome drive and ability that we often search high and low for in our own performance dogs. A great little package! If you know of anybody who may be interested - please cross post, likewise, feel free to contact me privately.

Positions In Motion Exercise (udx) - Nsw
leopuppy04 replied to squeak's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
A stay is not something I use when we are in motion. If I call out a position - I have always taught from day dot that they just follow through with the position. Just because you use a 'stay' command doesn't mean you need it every time the dog needs to hold a position - just as I never use a stay for the heelwork etc. I've never really thought about it. A stay command to me, is just to reinforce to the dog to wait in that position until I return - a wait is 'wait' for another command..... each to their own, but if you really think about it - the lead up to a position in motion and a lead up to a stay are two very different exercises. I guess one could also argue - if you use the same hand signal for sending your dog to the directed retrieve, fetch, seekback and scent work - how do they know the difference - it's the whole context of the situation -
well me of course :nahnah: I'm doing 5 runs in the morning before stewarding in the afternoon... hmm... this should be interesting.... Novice Agility, Excellent Agility, Excellent Jumping (twice) and Nov St. Pairs!

Hey Ptolomy - we got jipped for the Obed Nat's. The grounds (well - the rings I was in!) were far better than what they were for the obedience Nat's... well that was until this arvo and we had a MASSIVE dump of rain during the finals ;) What timing! There were some great vic results - I will let the respective people tell all though! But Leo did get his JDX today :D!!! AS for the state teams events... results were as follows: 1st - SA 2nd - NSW 3rd - TAS 4th - WA 5th - ACT 6th - QLD 7th - VIC -
be careful using it if you are doing agility games - as they use this device to tell you when you missed an obstacle or need to do the finishing gamble/ sequence Tess - here is my belief - the sound only means one thing and you have conditioned it well... If you had conditioned "cookie" from the start and NEVER said cookie unless you wanted them to whip around immediately (lets face it, we often use come in situations where they may not come) you will have a very good, almost instantaneous recall... the difference is with a word, it takes a lot of conditioning. You would have got the same response IMO if you had used a whistle as opposed to this device. IMHO - if you had started recall training at 8wks in a bathroom and just said 'come' and clicked a head turn - it almost becomes 2nd nature and the dog does it without thinking... it's hard to explain, but you do get the same results with a command as well... *if* we haven't abused the word and the dog hasn't learnt that sometimes, come doesn't actually mean 'come right away'....

OMG - you're pregnant?!?!?! All this time I thought it was just some weird parasite or tummy bug growing there - sorry it was too good to miss Tassie - looking forward to seeing you again too!

I'll be there! Was going to be running both dogs, now i'm only down to one

hehe was a great (but wet) day today! Whitka - Max got his CCD!!!!! Got to meet Ptolomy and Natsu Chan and had a great time catching up and chatting with everyone As to how we went - lets not go there

Agree with you 100%. Me three!!! ;) :p

You'll be surprised how much a wee bit of difference in distance between the poles make as the dogs get closer and closer to a straight line... you may remember me warning you of this fact... but then... I do talk a lot so maybe not Try and work in *really* tiny increments. I found that when I was really close to getting a straight line and I jumped too far to soon, my dogs would just run straight past the weaves ie: "weaves, we don't see no weaves"... You have to move really slowly - move them in at teeny tiny distances... almost to the point where you are questioning whether or not you have moved them at all. I found that really helped us get to the final picture of the straight line weaves

Ditto - I think mine partially turned into a channel, but I was trying to do SG's 2x2. To be honest, I'm *really* pleased with the results and think I'll keep teaching it this way regardless!!!

I can't wait to meet your boy... not to mention Brooklyn... if you see someone drooling at the distance staring at Brookie - that will be me As for missing sits... I dunno where they go sometimes! My guys have been a little *too* good lately, which inevitably means that it will all go pear shaped at the trial Are you staying for the dinner too?? Oooh how exciting! I can't wait to meet more Tollers!

WTG Sieta - you two a burning up the obedience rings you'll be finished before you know it ! What an awesome dog Ella must be Well done SW and your two girls! Does Track 1 give Kiz her TD or does she need another track before that?!?!
-
well - hopefully my entries got there on time and I'll be there with my two! I really hope Leo does well - he's had a bit of a break and his work over the past two weeks has been to die for... he is loving his work and really knows his stuff in Open now. Such a happy little man he is Kinta will be in CCD chasing that final pass for her title
-
Well done miss Molly and shoey! I couldn't believe it when she didn't come when called on Sat... she usually comes at a million miles an hour !
-
WTG Ptolomy - what a busy weekend! I am so proud of Mr Leo - we had a run through yesterday at obedience (just open) and he did an excellent round. I think he was so excited I was playing with him rather than that pesky black dog he has to put up with :D I hope he works like that at the nationals!!! And as typical luck would have it.... guess who held her group stays yesterday without even batting an eyelid
-
Woot woot! Go Dennis the menace!
-
Don't know if this is a brag or 'come cry with me' post. After some 'difficult' trials with the little miss who didn't know how to deal with her mum's nerves, Kinta pulled off another pass today - 89/100 and 3rd place. That's the good bit. The afternoon trial was a dream... she worked the best ever in a trial situation and was sitting on 97/100. I only lost her on one RAT in fast pace.... 10 seconds to go in the sit stay.... and that was enough for her  : Sigh.... soooo close!

Advice From Other Instructors
leopuppy04 replied to JulesP's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Jules - can she get it's attention with food?! Get the owner to find something food-wise that will get the dogs attention - ie: raw meat, cooked steak if it needs to be . Then just get her to listen in on the class, do what she can, but mainly reward the dog for ANY quiet behaviour. If she does this for a few weeks - she'll be able to 're-join' the class 'properly'.... that is if she does her homework too -
Western Port Obedience Club (& Hastings)
leopuppy04 replied to BelgianPup's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Hastings is meant to be awesome! On a side note - anyone know of clubs that do obedience trialling 'run through's' on a weekday evening? I go to Croydon, but over winter, we don't have run throughs on an evening and I need a 'back up' incase I can't make it on Sunday  -
60cm between each pole

Wow - well done Montelite!!
