Hi Guys, I'm looking at purchasing both of the above in the near future. Has anyone/ does anyone have a trailer/ puppy bars made by this guy. http://www.zandonatrailers.com.au/ Quality/ workmanship/ recommended etc? Now more specific questions: With regards to dog trailers - what are the brands you recommend / don't recommend? What are your 'must haves' and things you look for? what things are essential? I would like a 4berth with a wardrobe and tack box.... but not sure what brand etc etc. With regards to puppy bars - I have an x trail, looking to get a false floor/ single door entry and a barrier at the cargo part... any recommendations/ good and bad points?! Any advice much appreciated :)

yup - they all had their own separate bowls :). I'm trying to use the adults for company but it doesn't seem to be helping

has anyone ever had an issue with a pup not eating once all the siblings have flown the nest? Last puppy left Sunday morning and that's the last time Koda had a decent meal. Ate like a horse when his littermates were here and that's the only thing that has changed. If any of the pups ever 'missed' a meal, they would eat voraciously at the next feed time! Mum is still with me as are all the other adult dogs. Bright and happy otherwise. Diet has not changed - it's the same as it's always been. Nibbled at sunday lunch, ate part of his dinner, happily ate the bone I gave him when I put him to bed in the crate sunday night. Monday morning didn't eat breakfast - didn't worry me too much as the bone was quite big so figured he may be full. He was left with no food when I went to work on Monday. Monday night, came home, fed him - in the presence of other dogs and no other dogs - no difference. Not eating other than licking at the food. Fed him at bed time - dry mix again, nibbled but nothing else. I gave him nothing and his tummy is very much empty and still won't eat this morning. Suggestions?! Not concerned health wise as he is very healthy and bright, but he obviously needs to eat and being so young it concerns me... He sniffs the food, has a couple of mouthfuls and then goes around trying to play - with other dogs put away, he does the same then goes off to lie down somewhere etc etc. Crate doesn't help - he just goes to sleep or plays with his toy as opposed to eating the food. Hand feeding (training) sniffs/ licks food, occasionally eats it but more interested in the wide world... ETA - he can't be eating off mum either as she's dried up. :)

I'm looking to retire or semi-retire leo from agility at this years end. He will be about 9.5 then. A few reasons - by this stage he will have (hopefully!) finished all of the titles I would like to gain with him in the way of agility events. He jumps the 600 height and while I am careful, I can see the impact this has on his body and his longevity and health is far more important to me. He will however continue to compete in the games events when they are available. He still loves his agility. The other reason is a financial one, as I just can't afford to run 3 dogs in agility, however 1.5 - 2 dogs (ie: one masters dogs entered in everything and one up and coming dog) is much easier to manage! He will however continue to do obedience/ rally and any other sport I may wish to ensue with him until he physically cannot do it anymore. He is still very must a young boy mentally so I don't see the value of retiring him 'just because'. Age is just a number! LOL! I might begin some tracking with him, some herding or maybe even some dog dancing. I'm a big believer in keeping him mentally active that's for sure! I do however think it is dependant on the dog however. Don't be surprised if you see Kinta still running around the agility rings at 11- 12 yrs old! She is extremely fit, extremely agile and doing agility at that age for her shouldn't put as much stress on her ligaments and joints as it would Leo. so I think it's all horses for courses and dependant on the dog. I mean, Kinta is the dog who could have started obedience competitions at 12mths old because mentally she's that sort of a dog. Tahli at 2.5 is still at least 12mths out of seeing the inside of an obedience ring. She just doesn't have the mental capacity for it yet!

Leo is a dibber dobber! Every time the girls run down to the fenceline to chase the dog next door, he barks and whines at my back door! Freaking annoying! The girls seldom make a peep, but Leo - he lets the WORLD know!!! :laugh:

Haha yup that's me! 3 adults and 1 new puppy, 3-4 dog sports, I think they are happy when the weekdays come so they can rest up!

Not sure what to do here as I remember the discussion some time ago, particularly amongst Aussie owners regarding what to call each colour when registering. Eg: is a black tri - a black tricolour - or black, copper and white markings? Is a blue merle =- blue merle or blue merle with copper and white markings? any help would be appreciated!

Thanks everyone for their suggestions, seems that the puppies great escape may have been a once off.. The last two days they have all remained in their pens. My housemate situation should sort itself out once he moves out in the next couple of weeks and in the meantime he has offered to stay elsewhere in that time if necessary (not yet..)

Unfortunately my rooms are not big enough to do that (well any room that I can shut a door in). I just went home and she was nice and relaxed with the pups, pen not even moved, so that's a good sign. I would just hate to come home and find mum or pups hurt... also having mum stressed like that every time housemate is home is not good for her or pups IMO... Argh... so frustrating. I had two friends that Z has not met before come home with me at lunch and she was all over them like a wet rag greeting and giving them cuddles... so it's not like she has a problem with people seeing pups! Yes this is my concern... odd that dogs who are often so good with people and have no issues (anyone who has met my dogs can attest to how friendly they are)can have such an aversion to one person... and multiple dogs too...

This what I have done with my puppy room, only I went to a carpet supplier and got an end of roll/off cut type piece. It was better quality and cheaper than Bunnings and enough for the whole room. I do the radio as well, I even change stations each day so the types of music and sounds are different :) LOL - rest assured all of this is the same as my current set up but alas - it doesn't solve my issue. If mum needs access inside and out of the pen then that is what I need to give her.... I can't have her tipping the pen over completely... Thanks everyone for your suggestions :). As I thought I'm pretty limited in options because of my set up (of the house, not the puppies!) ETA - Piper - have you used that Puppy sounds CD from clean run..... Brilliant! I LOVE it!

Yeah I've done this too and I have this set up in the bedroom. The issue is that no matter where I put her, the larger areas of the house (all bedrooms are pretty crowded - it's a small house!) she will have to be penned, and given her behaviour last night, I'm petrified of penning her again lest she hurt the puppies in her attempts to join the other dogs. I find Zara's behaviour to this roomate behaviour very strange. I've tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, but I now have multiple dogs that don't trust him... he swears he's done nothing but the other day I heard him threatening to kick them again so he has to go. I have to trust my dogs as they LOVE people and I've never seen them dislike a person before.... I have penned her again today and left all other dogs outside incase they were setting her off. Home at lunchtime to check on her and see what she has done. I hope they will all be ok .

My thought for the crazy fences yesterday was Zara must have been trying to get out to run with the other dogs or reacting to something outside. She's a serial escape artist from puppy pens (thanks dad) and if she can find a gap she will... so she didn't find a gap but somehow the puppies did! My puppy area is made of the normal puppy pen stuff plus the bunnings fences. It's pretty high, but yes, mum can't get out unless I design it like that. the issue is if I do that, then my housemate is stuck.... I just don't understand it, but Zara is not the only dog that doesn't like him. There has to be a smell about him or something. Zara doesn't like him, Kinta tolerates him but has never liked him and about 3 other dogs that I've looked after during his stay here also don't like him. ANd these are some of the friendliest dogs I know....

ok - I'm looking for some suggestions please... I seem to be in a bit of a dilemma. Zara's pups are 3 weeks old today and doing very well. Zara is a great mum and the most relaxed one I've had. Fine with my other dogs around the pups and fine with any visitors i've had. Infact, she has probably been more interested in getting pats from them than she has been about them near her puppies! So long as they don't stick their head in her whelping box she is ok! but my bedroom is probably one of the hotter rooms in the house getting the morning sun. The puppies at 3 weeks old are also too big to spend excessive time in the whelping box and I am gradually moving them to their puppy parlour - a sectioned off area in my living area for the puppies to explore and play. One issue... Zara since having the pups HATES my housemate. And I mean it. I wouldn't put it past her to tell him where to go and whenever he needs to go anywhere I need to remove her from the area. She is FINE with every other person on the planet, I've not seen her see a cross word to anybody, but my housemate sure cops it. She will bark excessively at him and not allow him in the area.... which is a problem seeing as my living area joins to the kitchen and seeing as I'm back at work, she will be in that area... I came home tonight after being out for 4 hours and I left the pups and zara in the puppy parlour for the first time without supervision. I came home to a shambles... pen has been pushed and shoved around, 5 puppies are all over my living room floor, Zara frantic because she is locked up away from her pups and my other three cleaning up after the puppies! I have NO idea how THEY got out and not she, but it's not something I really want to risk having a hurt mum or hurt puppy.... Now... the question is where should I house the puppies... there is nowhere else in the house I can put them. It's going to be 41 deg tomorrow so I HAVE to keep them on the lino floors - carpet is too hot (and i won't mention the massive bout of diahorrea that Zara had all over my bedroom floor today...). It will be too hot for puppies outside. My initial thought is that if I can give Zara access in and out of the puppy parlor then she will be more settled and puppies can stay in there... but this then brings in the issue of the housemate. I'm really not keen on kicking the pups outside given the weather we will have for the next week or so... but as much as I need to consider the best for the pups, I also need to consider the housemate too.. I don't think he has done anything to the dogs, but I'm baffled as to why a dog that loves everyone can be so untrustworthy with one person... anyway... separate issue... but does anybody have any ideas of what to do? I'm open to anything at this point....

How about your cool coats Ptolomy?! wet them and place in the box - mum and pups might like that?! Poor guys! It's so hot to want to do anything at those temperatures . Zara went through days where hand feeding was preferred
