for me LM the most important thing is a quick recovery which it sounds like your boy Banjo/ Romeo has I agree that you should start off small and work your way up, so you want to try and avoid making him freak out, but stay nice and calm (at a distance if need be) and heavily reward the behaviours you want to see. Given that he hasn't even been with you a week yet, I wouldn't be concerned and it sounds like you are doing all the right things to help him along and find his feet. given that he was in a country area with the breeder, it certainly wouldn't concern me if he startled a little at dogs barking, or traffic going past... things he wouldn't have been likely to be exposed to while staying with the breeder JMO

ROFL thanks Ptolomy - she's a special little girl that one ;) Just loves to work with you. I hope that we can continue to improve and I can have (on tape) one of those fantastic heeling rounds in a trial! haha - thanks RS! Now if only I can get those Left about turns working..... -

Here are some rounds that I have found really memorable.. This one is Kinta's first training rounds at 18mths... to see whether or not she was ready for trialling.. this one is Kinta's first round back from pups to see if she was ready to go back to the rings: http://s179.photobucket.com/albums/w287/le...atrainjul09.flv -

leopuppy04 replied to leopuppy04's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
LOL - well I live about 2mins from Croydon club ... took me a little over an hr to get to Werribee and that was going the 'long' way along the western ring rd and through greensborough because of the works on the west gate -
2010 Training/title/goals Wish List
leopuppy04 replied to Seita's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Haha - I didn't get my goals either . Tends to happen when you don't really enter trials until October!!! Leo: I would like to get his UD title. Most of all I would like him to have fun in the ring and really be confident and happy . I would like him to have some passes towards his ADM and JDM, and perhaps his JDO title. I want him to stay as healthy and injury free as possible! Kinta: I would like to get her Aust Ch. With only 15pts to go, I can't wait to finish it off . I would like her to get her CDX in fine style and her AD, JDX titles. most of all I want her to continue to re-gain her confidence and drive to have some amazing runs in obedience and agility, just like we have these dream runs at training (like tonight)! I would also like to have decided on a husband for her next litter I would like her next pregnancy and whelping to be as stress free as this one was stressful... so YES Kinta, that DOES mean coming into labor and doing the work yourself!!! Again I want her to stay healthy and injury free! Zara: I would like Zara to grow up and develop into a potential performance dog, but most of all straighten up that rear, develop some nice movement, fill out and turn into the type she is supposed to... all those faults can go on holidays thank-you-very-much Again I want her to stay healthy and injury free! Most of all I want to have fun and enjoy the precious moments I share with each dog! -

leopuppy04 replied to Staff'n'Toller's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
we only had 1-2 dogs 'stay' in our novice stays on the weekend. Can't blame them though coz of the heat Quite common for dogs to break stays and I feel their pain because both of mine have broken their stays and become serial 'stay breakers' particularly Leo... all my fault though. Most don't go up to other dogs... they usually just lie down or stand -

yeah spectators are definitely welcome Well I'll be there now friend is no longer here for that weekend -
WOO HOO DSO!!!! I know how you must feel so that's amazing!!!! Huge congrats to you!!! another brag for us today! Leo gained the final pass for his ADX title!!!! So proud of my man! Kinta did no good - her handler stuffed her up in excellent jumping and she didn't get her weave entries today  Why can she weave a treat at training but never at a trial!!!!!
-
ahem.... not that I'm proud much, but here are some pics of my girlie with her ribbons from the past month of trialling Thanks everyone again for their congrats
-
I'm the same seita! Get them up to pretty much CDX level before entering... or at least try to Kinta just needs to work on some out of sight stays (started already, but will build on that) and retrieves over the jump.... good summer homework right?!
-
Good luck Seita Is this Open or UD?! I can't wait to get miss K out to do Open Now the fun REALLY starts . She can wait off UD for a while till I've perfected it with Leo.... hmm.... maybe not, otherwise she'll never get there LOL yes, Leo is writing into Handlers R us to see if he can find an upgrade to version 2.0.

Woo hoo Congrats to Ptolomy and her crew ;) NC - bad luck with Koori - I just loved her little boots though Well we have another brag ;). In 3 successive trials, Kinta has managed to pull off her CD TITLE today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We finished on a score of 192 and "Highest scoring Bitch in trial" Not a mean feat considering todays temperatres were in the 30s so I was just happy she came out of her crate!! I am just SO pleased with this girl of mine :D Not to be left behind, after much deliberation of whether or not to scratch Leo (due to the heat) I decided to put him in as HE wanted to work ;). He looked long and hard for the seekback, without success, but hey, for his 2nd trial, that's much better than the last time. He did the jumps no problems, and it was only when the judge told me that I took a step out to get the bar jump did I realise what I had done . All articles correct on the mat, some lovely signals heelwork, until we were doing the distance control, judge gave me the signal for down... so I happily said "DROP" Lovely speak on command to finish. We ended up with a 3rd place NQ. Poor Leo worked so well, not his fault he has to put up with such a nuffy handler . To me he basically got a pass anyway No mean feat to do so well on so many exercises at only his 2nd UD trial so I'm rapt with him too

Exercise Before Obedience Class This Morning?
leopuppy04 replied to fainty_girl's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
the club sounds awful . What a shame about your experience. I do believe in using devices for dogs that REALLY pull, but the halti would not be one I would recommend (constant strain on the neck = not good) unless the person was experienced and under constant supervision . As for exercising before club - I was told to do that when Leo was a bub... turned into one of the WORST training sessions ever as the walk only warmed up his muscles and he was MORE hypo than ever . So no, I don't exercise before hand. Now, I love them absolutely bursting with energy as it's great to harness that drive and make them great to work with. I totally agree with Laffi and Huski. As they said - you can get better advice and help from the trainer when your dog is a bit 'enthusiastic' shall we say -

haha - I wish I could! Just think of it as distraction training Yup Ptolomy she's retiring mid - next year I think. Such a shame. One of my favourite judges to go under, very kind and helpful in the ring. I really wish she wasn't retiring ;) SnT - I hope to enter, but I'm honestly not sure as I may have a friend down from Syd that weekend
