Wow RS-'that's quite a few brags there!! Well don to you Millie and ruby!!!!
-
too true! I don't know whether it's worse to fail EVERYTHING or to just keep failing one different exercise each time
-
Thanks everyone for the congrats . Nope ptolomy- not giving up on UD yet... Am still determined that we WILL get there

Yee Har! That was just the confidence boost we needed! After countless trials in UD with some 'oh so close' moments (seriously you crazy UD people HOW do you do it?!) I finally had a good trialling day today! Unfortunately no pass in UD (he didn't do the first box, went and did the seekback again ) BUT we got a lovely 191 in Open and had a GREAT time in the ring together! It was just the break we needed and I think it did us a world of good! Go Mr LEO! The score got us a tidy 2nd place on a countback, but unfortunately the distracted heelwork that we started with cost us the 1st place and the high in trial! Ah well, I'm still very happy with the boy today

Sooooo cute Cassie!

Mine actually works best just before and during her season . She then takes a plummet about 4 wks later until about 9wks post season and can be dead flat . which sucks because I can't trial her while she's in! LOL! Since she's had her litter of pups though, she hasn't really plummeted like she used to... thank Dog!

Many many variables playing here but yes, in theory your plan could work ;) I really just came in to say WOW what a cool yard!!! Can I move in with you?! What about planting some neighbours be gone type trees along that fenceline so that she can't see as well people walking past?! I know for a fact my Aussies would be barking like mad at everybody walking past if I lived with you .

What Is Your Defintion Of Crate Trained?
leopuppy04 replied to aussielover's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I think crate training is both point 1 and 2. The dog can actively seek it out, but should also see it as a safe place . I want my dogs to see their crate as their favourite place to rest . -
Ok - so I have biggish furry dogs, the most I've ever thought about for coats are the weatherbeeta landa's that I use when I go walking in the rain, or in the middle of winter when my girls have had pups and have NO hair! But right now, I'm fostering a 3kg Pom (who is on the fast track of becoming a foster failure!) and I wonder.... does she need a coat?! She has bundles of fur, and seems fine, but then they just look so cute with a coat on! Where do you find good ones? What are some recommendations?! I don't want one like the Landa's because they don't look comfortable. Just a nice, easy no frills fleece coat that looks nice... I don't want a hood on it or anything like that. Any recommendations?

Sue Hogben Seminar - Albury
leopuppy04 replied to The Spotted Devil's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I too wish I knew about it . Only found out when talking to TSD on the weekend -
I use a front loader, wash the dog stuff last and if need be do an empty rinse and spin cycle with nothing in it to get the hair out. Mind you their blankets aren't too hairy - I try and wash them every couple of weeks and the bases of the beds (eg: my snooza beds etc etc) are washed at the laundromat every change of season. If they get particularly hairy I shake, then Vac it!!! So they never really go into the wash that hairy. When this machine gets a bit older, then when I replace it, I'll keep this one as a 'dog' machine

I think they are taking names - but if you go to their website there is a spot that says they are no longer taking names... I'd just keep pestering with emails

It may be distasteful to some to have these animals PTS after their experiences with the vet students, but they are learning..... would you rathered they learnt on your own pet? Sorry but I don't see how through 'observation' you would learn the same as doing it yourself. I'd much rather my vet practice on the surplus of unwanted animals rather than on my own pets. As for the ethical issue -I think the issue lies more with the surplus of animals unwanted, than vet students using them as an education tool which in the end is for the benefit of many MANY more individual animals lives.

I've also used the phenergan a couple of times, on Ruby (Halo's litter sister). The last trip we did (2hrs) she was fine and just slept without anything. With Halo I agree she is probably stressing more about the car than the motion sickness, so it may be necessary to keep up the phenergan for a bit longer, if its having a positive effect. Phenergan is used for children for travel sickness as well. If you are going to use it, administer it a day before you plan to go just to ensure that there is no reaction or anything. Does Phenergan make them drowsy? I remember i gave Leo some kids child sickness tabs and it made him zonked out!

Thanks Am going to try a crate tomorrow - if all else - it will help with stopping me from washing blankets every day! Good luck!! Ohh.. also my advice is don't feed her anything before a car ride if she known to throw up.. yep doing that ;). Went through it with my male Aussie and took me almost 12mths... but am worried due to her size that some of the meds would be too powerful for her

Anyone got ideas on what I can give a 3kg Pom to assist with the car sickness? Doing all the usual - feeding in car, short trips etc, have only had her since yesterday, but wondering if Junket/any car sickness tabs would be able to be used on a dog so small! Ta

Wowza - WTG Ptolomy and cider!!! That's a pretty good track record so far Woot - well done!!! That's awesome! Yay!! Well done Seita! Well our weekend hasn't been too bad, got a JDM pass yesterday with Kinta and some lovely runs. Leo I think is still recovering from his ordeal earlier in the week and was a bit flat in agility and did dismally in UD today.... *sigh* I'm beginning to dislike trialling in this class!

I really need to join this thread more frequently Well I've had session number 2 with Missy Zara on our weekly training schedule. Should be interesting to see how she goes given that I only see her about once or twice a week, so difficult to squeeze in those training sessions! Once again I was rapt with her work. It's improving each time. Her position is getting better and better and much more enthusiastic. Still working on duration, but her understanding of where 'heel' is, is improving each time... now just to work on the walk, bounce, walk, bounce method that she has going Her auto sits need work and her stands need work (stands straight then steps out away from me) but her drops are brilliant. Turns are on a dime. One very happy mummy here As for the other kids - well last few training sessions Leo has taken AGES to find his seekback, and then it dawned on me that he may not like touching a s/b article after I've done some training with Kinta. Anyone have this difficulty where they need a separate article for their separate dogs?!?! It's the only thing I can think of... Kinta's s/b and UD training going well... still many things to work on before we enter a trial (try another 12mths away!), but they are progressing nicely

We were chatting about this at agility training last night - we have so many good agility/jumping dogs at our club that we'd be too ill from eating all the cake to be able to run our dogs if we celebrated every time someone did really well It's a blessing, though, in terms of training and experience to learn from Ruby looks lovely We'd all be so fat from all the cake eating none of us would be able to get around the courses anymore :D But then we have a LOT of very successful agility triallers . Now... maybe we need to consider that for obedience though ;-). I'm a little like RS - if Leo ever gets a UD pass, let alone that UD title, we might have a national party!!
-
WTG everyone some great results!!! TSD - I think I was as tired as you were last night RS am SO happy for you and a CDX pass with Miss Millie!! Yayyy!! And well done to Ruby also . Well we got our ADM title this weekend! One happy mumma! then the next day he polished it off with another ADM pass (just to make sure ).

She's currently fed twice a day as are all of my dogs Given she's 10mths old, I would be very suprised if it is pancreatitis as I would also suspect that it wouldn't be like 'clockwork' that once a week to the day she is sick, but that she would deteriorate rapidly. My guys are all fed pretty lean meals. I'm quite particular about the fat content on the meats that they eat. In fact the fattiest meal they have is lamb necks and I don't think she's ever vomited after eating lamb... Thanks for the info on IBD ;). No way that she is scavenging unless she can creep out of her crate, open the cupboard door, get into the trash, leave it exactly where it was, close cupboard door and get back into (and close) crate door Not sure re: training question - only time will tell as I only thought about the training issue this morning

She's UTD with worming and we are going to try her on a probiotic for a little while and see if that helps. Could have just been a bad batch of raw too but I do doubt that. No skin issues what so ever. That's the thing - there is no pattern at all. She is fed BARF (mixed by myself) every morning and it's only 1 in every 7 that she will get ill. Vet recommended probiotics for a week and see if that helps - clears out any ill bacteria anyway . What's IBD?!
-
She's fed on a BARF diet, but doesn't get any marrow bones - I hate the stuff . Think I'll just keep trying various things. I haven't been able to isolate it to anything just yet - she's not been sick only off raw food or anything like that... am going to see if it's just the treats first.
