  1. Um, yes. BUT CCD dogs are competing against their own set of exercises, and so are the other classes. Whichever dog performs better on the day for their own exercises should be the "winner" of Highest in Trial. -WithEverythingIAm I agree - I think CCD should be included, if you can find some way of making the scores equal. IMO, it is a poor excuse saying that simply because UD and CDX are 'harder' they should be warranted the 'high in trial'... although it is true, I think that a good novice or CCD dog should also be awarded for their efforts.... it is good encouragement to keep on going to the higher classes!
  2. LOL - say "free" to Leo and you get a big blue thing springing up to give you a kiss right on your schnoz! When you are not expecting it.... then say "Party" to Kinta and you get the same process, maybe with a bit of a playbite (working on that)! I swear I go to work and people think i'm abused or something with all the scratches.... I am abused... by my DOGS!
  3. Cosmolo I have two different release words simply coz i'm the only trainer and should I ever decide to put both dogs in a 'stay' I didn't want to release them both when I only wanted one to get up . So I have "free" and "Party". I am actually quite suprised at the fact that I have rarely said the wrong word. I've done a bit of proofing with the 'release' words (ie: saying the wrong one to the dog and praising them for staying), so if I do say the wrong one - I usually get a "uh mum... thats not MY word" look . I was contemplating having different bridge words too, but decided against it coz it would just play too much with my brain :D. So both respond to "yes" and a clicker... would have been a lot harder to get my head around this as "yes" is such a reflex for me now..... (hmm... would that be classical conditioning )
  4. LOL - it is great to watch the dogs interact. Another thing that amazes me is the ease that my two get along with each other and other dogs 'outside' of their pack also. I was suprised at how much the 'top of the pack' changes... Kinta is 'top dog' in terms of my attention/pats, Leo for toys (without a doubt there!), Leo for food... It is amazing to see the way they interact - each has their own way of 'asking' (sometimes politely, sometimes not) the other to play! In terms of walking on the lead - my LLW is usually by my side.... with the two of them it is at the ends of the lead (but they aren't pulling.... well unless they see another dog ). they actually are quite easy to walk but if you have one person walking one dog and another walking the other it proves to be a little harder! A couple of times I have recalled the dogs (usually they are excellent) and it is as if you see them look at each other, contemplate "should we?!" and then come racing back FBC - our house is the same - either in a 'stay' of some sort or going through doors - unless I say "off you go" they must wait until each dog is called/released! how much more do you learn from watching two dogs interact constantly rather than just seeing them hoon around a park!
  5. Hi All, Not asking for any training advice here - just posing a question. As a newbie to handling multiple dogs a few things have popped up that amuse me a little. For example - when I walk each dog seperately, I have really nice LLW with both. Walk them together.... what LLW?!?!?! Does anybody else have that? Do you also find that one dog may egg another on a little in the way of playing with other dogs? Even with just two - mine seem to have formed a tight pack and when they play with another dog they tend to 'gang' up on it - not in a bad way, they just stick together, play by themselves and you can see that the 3rd dog is an outsider... this also used to happen when I used to walk Leo with a friends 2 dogs. Does anyone else have interesting quirks that their dogs do while together but not when they are apart?
  6. That is fantastic! Quite a voice she has on her there!!!!
  7. It is a tough one isn't it. Basically I go by something that has a good level of protein and fat - I used to think Supercoat was just fine but my dog was losing condition when on it. I have since switched him over to Nutrience and he has bulked up really quickly and his coat is much healthier too. I feed pretty much the same diet as you. I don't like to see too much corn, wheat, barley etc in the ingredients and like to see meat (and/or by products - have the same belief as you ) first on the list. So in terms of premium and average - I like Optimum, Nutrience, Pro-plan and Advance. Royal Canin also seems to be pretty good . I would have listed S/C too but it just doesn't seem to suit my dog. sorry - best I can give you
  8. LOL - come over and say hi next time
  9. yep probably! If he was tethered near the trial ring or near the puppy class at 11 with a black puppy - that was them!
  10. Hey JTH - I thought you were looking for a Border or Aussie ... and didn't it have to be female?!?!?! LOL! Sowwy, couldn't help but comment . As for your 'issues' - nothing to add to the advice said here
  11. haha - so I guess you didn't get me as your instructor then CTD!! I had my first class with Kinta yesterday - she did Sooo well considering i've done barely nothing with her and there were a lot of 'unmanageable' dogs around (ie: dogs wanting to say hi!). I've hit the 'jackpot' with this girl!!! LOL - poor Leo must feel soo 'un loved'!
  12. Haven do you have a new puppy????? This is a great thread - one that should be pinned - will be very useful for new puppy owners.
  13. LOL - I see what you mean about Joshy! And I love Moses getting the 'home alone' toy stuck!!!!
  14. Sorry LP, I had to take something out to put updated pic in there :p . but he looked soo cute ETA - mind you both your dogs are still incredibly cute but.... no fair!!!! *throws a tanty*!!
  15. For the turns - try doing them next to a fence so that she can only go tight. She does exactly what my dog used to do - go wide and then come in nicely. Also helps if you throw some food out after doing a turn to encourage them to come around faster. I usually find the turns are wide coz of us holding the lead though . You are doing a great job!
  16. BIG CONGRATS to you LB. Flea looks fantastic!!! Are we allowed to nit pick and offer advice? Like Mrs D - I do the around the back finish - but I do know your dog does loose points for touching you - mine sometimes touches my hand when doing the recall and I always lose a point. I figure i'd rather loose a point for getting a nice, close finish rather than loose a point for a sit that is too far out. Your heeling looks great. I love her heeling in a straight line - lovely attention and 'prancing'... still needs a little bit of work regarding your turns (perhaps try static turns?) and perhaps maintaining position (she sometimes gets ahead of you). I am not sure if we were meant to offer advice but thought i'll throw it in anyway - hey, you may already know that! Anyway - you should be so proud of your work! You guys look like a team to be reckoned with! Oh and Mrs D - I miss the baby puppy pic of Jonty.... on the table
  17. I'd gradually start hiding the tug the better she gets. Eventually, how about doing what people do with food when they have problems with stays - putting the tug behind her and then releasing her behind her to get the tug for a good play?
  18. Lablover- I agree - it doesn't even have to be 'overprotecting' but even the handler just being a little aprehensive and the dog picks up on it and thinks...hmm... maybe there is something I SHOULD be worried about
  19. I get the same emails about Aussie shepherds.... end up in junk mail and delete them - they are a waste of time
  20. Myszka - I think you are doing all of the right things. I have not experienced anything like Cowanbree so I'm interested to hear what she also has to say. But in all honesty - you are not pushing Divani too far and are allowing her to deal with the situation with minimal stress IMO
  21. Cowanbree - so sorry to hear this. It must have been so hard for you! Just thought i'll point out that my dog is not bad at all, she can just be a little shy at times . 9 times out of 10 she'll mug you . Myszka - I really hope you can work things out with Divani - she is gorgeous :nahnah:
  22. I'll give that a try. I was thinking maybe eucalyptus oil but I don't want to burn her skin or cause any irritation. Of course i'll dilute all of these in water :nahnah:. BTW - lol - not superglue
  23. Won't that ruin the coat??? I'll try this as a last resort - thanks PF :nahnah:
