  1. Thanks for all of the congrats guys! I am still floating over here! How long does it take before gaining a new title means nothing?? Arya - Are you the person with the 2 beautiful corgis??? One probably only about 6mths old!!! (LOL - I was drooling over that pup ). Thank you for your compliments. Leo worked well, but I was a little dissapointed with his heeling, particularly in the AM trial! Bad luck with your dog, I am sure she was just having and off day - I saw a lot of dogs that usually work beautifully that were just plain horrible (for their standards) on Sat . What class were you doing?
  2. lol Zorro Crazy - not a silly question at all! CCD stands for community companion dog, which is the first class that you can trial for in obedience. It consists of a sequence of on-lead heeling a stand for exam and a short recall. Later you come back into the ring to do group stays: a 1 min sit and a 2 min down. Sounds easy, but the dogs usually find something to muck up every time :D. For me it was the stays, but we got there in a reasonably short space of time :D Dogdude - he pretty much has the distance and d/b 'trained' but they need a bit of proofing to become more reliable...... so thats what is to focus on now ;) Coolibah - LOL - he's only done herding at the ASCV days and as for his potential in that - it's questionable. He was great the first couple of times on sheep and the last time I put him on sheep and wanted him to *do* something he shut down Gamby - WELL done on your tracking Q. You'll get there with the obedience, I'm sure you'll be passing me in no time!!! ETA - I forgot to mention that CDODC members did VERY well also yesterday. One of us recieved their CD title with 3passes in 3 trial (and within about 2 weeks of starting to trial for CD!) so I am very happy for her! Another (the one who stole 1st place off me!) Also got her CCD title with her rotti, as well as the 'highest aggregate scoring CCD'! Another gained a pass in AM with their goldie and 3rd NQ in the arvo.... so a good day overall :D
  3. Hi Jesomil - no you need 3 for the title. I already had 2 passes under my belt from last year. One from the state title in August (88/100) and one from Eastern ODC in Oct (92/100). So I only needed one more . TO - My next trial is at Knox next sunday :D! I figured if I entered 3, surely I would get one pass . I'll still enter it for the experience though. My first Novice trial will be in April at CDODC :D
  4. Burning as we speak Nah - I still have to keep it for Kinta! THEN it burns... mwahahahah!!! Die Lead Die...... hmmm.... yes I think i'm weird! Seriously - Eddie will be ready before you know it.... as for you...... maybe 10 yrs???? LOL! Nerves are terrible aren't they
  5. Yay another clicker convert!!! WTG Husky87. I love the clicker as it just communicates to the dog sooo much better what you want! Well done and keep enjoying training !
  6. I am a VERY proud Mum today as my boy Leo aka "Ellagant Full O Mischief" gained his CCD title today!!! ;) :D :D :D Went to the Southern trial today and he passed in the AM trial with a score of 89/100 and some shocking heeling . We did however manage to come equal 2nd but unfortunately we were 3rd on the countback Since I was able to control my nerves for the 2nd trial (haha - I didn't care!), we did much better, despite the 'warmer' weather. We scored 92/100 and came equal FIRST in the ring, although again on the countback we were placed 2nd :p. I am sooo excited and so proud of my boy that we finally got there, after our stay issues But the BIGGEST news for me was that Leo was able to hold his stays even while the BC next to him broke and came over to sniff him :D ;) Thanks for letting me brag . Back into my box now
  7. Oh Ambervale, Sivaro and everyone who knew page. I'm so sorry to hear the news. My thoughts are with her family. Now little Page is out of pain - I am so glad that she was able to be with her family and her beloved Jet when the time came
  8. What class are/were you in - the times have changed so if it was a while ago you could try again? Have you tried another agility club (Berwick, K9, Westernport, Knox?) As for Flyball - you don't know until you try :D
  9. yay!!!! darn it - I don't wanna teach a kick back! I quit - I hate obedience
  10. Not really :D. I will give a a few things a go on here and report back to say how he is going. Ness - noooo.... not another thing to re-teach
  11. can't answer that - i'm not a flyball guru! can you go to another agility club though? which one did you go to?
  12. LOL CTD - that looks really cool! I love the push ups the best
  13. The sheep are regularly used with dogs so are used to their antics. One was even eyeballing Kinta as if to say.... so if I don't move 'whatcha gonna do?!" As CTD said -they are rotated regularly. LOL no-one is meant to know that my dogs are barkers Kinta was saying "my sheepies"!!!!
  14. Cosmolo I think you are right. I'll keep to the new command - work on improving that to the distance level and go from there. Dropping and maintaining heel position is no problem. He does the drop on the move perfectly. For some reason he just finds dropping from the stationary without 'creeping' is too hard, so changing the command may help. But it got me thinking, if you get pinned for your dog moving forward into the drop (not taking any extra steps, one clean movement), would he also get pinned for stepping forward into the stand if I were to do that in a distance?
  15. Jess was so lucky to have you, and likewise you were lucky to have her. Now I know why I never come in here, it is just too sad. Run free Jess - she will be waiting for you at the bridge
  16. Glad it was only a grass seed and nothing more serious!!! In itself that is stressful enough!!! Hope moses has a speedy recovery
  17. Ok - watch out this will be long 1. I started teaching him to drop/sit/stand from a table and from a step. Table first, then step. When he did it reliably (ie: 100% success rate) on the table, i'd move him to the stair. When he was reliable there, I moved him to the ground with the object infront of him.... move object away, no luck.... even if I went to a smaller object first 2. I decided to count my losses and re-train. Went back to the basics and lured him into a fold-back drop. Changed command to "Park". He doesn't get confused with "Drop" and "Park"... knows that park means he must fold-back. He is starting to get the idea with this and have only been doing this for a short while. I have not added distance on yet (well maybe 1-2 steps). Will do this fine, but can muck it up a little when I do it 'formally'... I give him a NRM for this. Progressing well. 3. When training No 2, as well as informal DOR stuff (I never train a formal DOR), I would always get him to drop/ park and throw the food/toy whatever behind him. He does a skidding halt usually, which is quite amusing . 4. When I have a toy in my hand (chuck it, kong on rope etc) I may ask him to "go" or "out" to get him to run away from me - when he is a distance I may ask him for some distance control - sit/drop/stand. Does the sit/drop well... Will walk a few steps on the stand.... refining that by reducing distance... again NRM if he moves ANY feet (well other than those he needs to move to stand up ). The main problem is that he naturally does a 'working dog' drop where he doesn't fold back but 'flomps' - sorta all comes down at once, with a little bit of forward movement.... you know how BC and Kelpies tend to just 'drop' on the spot? Well when he does this, it obviously isn't a problem if he is moving, but when he isn't (ie: distance work) he tends to move slightly forward and flomp. He doesn't actually take a step it is just his way of 'arranging' himself. This was after much work to make the 'drop' a smooth action - occasionally he will do the sit-drop still . I am worried that this will make him fail the exercise coz he may have moved more than 1/2 a body length . I will eventually incorporate the "park" into the trial system, but wanted to know what else I can do in regards to his 'drop' from a stationary and not make him lose position.... Does that make more sense??? Or are you more confused???
  18. Thanks ness - I've been doing this also as well as tossing the ball behind him.... it works for a DOR (ie: when he is on the move), but not for stationary How weird BTW - Go to off topic and check out "This weeks funny" - you'll like it
  19. Thanks Arya. Your method works as it is done and dusted . I have already been doing this with my boy and I found that by using a different command ie "park" (as in park your bum), he doesn't get confused. BUT I want to refine the 'drop' as well to reduce the 'creeping'!!! Thanks for the advice ! I am NEVER EVER going to teach my dog to drop from a sit first again! I taught Kinta the foldback and it has solved sooo many problems
  20. Even when he does it reliably with the object there - without fail?? The step is worse - he does it to perfection (I can be anywhere) and will foldback. but will not do it on the ground Yes, I had this problem with my younger girl and just lured her a little different (pulled her forward). She didn't generalise this to the front as all I think she understood she had to maintain the 'heel' position yet, infront she has to fold-back. Perhaps put another cue on it so that Jarrah doesn't get confused? I hope so, coz he does it in one swift movement and doesn't take any steps forward except to place himself into the drop. Thanks Mrs D
  21. LOL - pretty similar to my last thread, but this is more for ME and competition wise. I'm trying to do distance work with Leo for the novice component. I say drop and he does. Problem? He was taught to drop from a sit so will come forward in the drop, he won't really take any steps forward, but I'm concerned he will be more than 1/2 the body length infront if we were to do this for the optional exercise. If I put something in front of him, he will to it fine whilst that thing is infront, and if I decrease the size of it, he will still creep forward. I have started putting a different cue and using this cue "Park" to get him to foldback. It seems to be working, but I was hoping to see if anyone else has some ingenious ideas. Thanks.
  22. wagalot - I think it is the 22nd of April - not sure if I can make it or not. check with Kate for more details
  23. yay I finally got it to work! Its a great vid, if I do say so myself ;). can't say much for the background noise though Bl***y Kinta having a good 'ol bark in the background!!!! : If I see you at RSPCA i'll bring a blank DVD along for my copies ;)
  24. Great vids vickie. Excellent for us agilty newbies to get some ideas on how to train our dogs and develop a stronger foundation!!! Might have to try some of this at home!
