Congrats Lyndsay! I'm glad you have this little one going strong! Everything crossed that all continues to improve. Do you have any idea what is causing it? Such a shame and oh so heartbreaking for you .

It varies. Mine used to be all outside when I wasn't home until I moved and I think the move unsettled them so they started barking a bit. With 3-4 dogs staying here at any one time and a really good house set up - i found it a really easy transition and sooo much better for me and the dogs to keep them inside. we have a rotating roster . I vary whether they spend time inside during the day, outside or spend time in their crate (eg: when one is in season) or together outside. Barking seems to have subsided and the dogs seem to be really settled too. A bit more work on my part in the sense that if I'm going straight out after work, I'll come home at lunch to let them out for a wee-stop. But other than that, they are pretty good at holding on for the 10hrs I'm gone and seem to really enjoy spending that time inside :p

How about I trade you an adult blue one for a red one, and the adult blue one comes back with a UD attached?!?!? Hehe!

Ya big softie Ptolomy! They're nothing like your little red rockets  I'm very biased to them, and I don't understand where all my hours in the day are disappearing to! I'll put one in a postpak for you and Bedazzled to share in WA shall I?!

Three questions, When you say NBT x NBT getting normal sized litters, were they DNA tested as NBT Carrier - otherwise it could just be that some of these dogs were actually tailed dogs who were docked ? For example most of the imports from USA could easily be full tailed dogs - and i do find it somewhat a strange coincidence that soooo many full bob dogs happen to be in the shows....? Is a half tail or 3/4 tail still considered a NBT ? Have you seen any DNA results of a dog showing as NBT Affected ? (I have only seen NBT Carrier, even with a few being dogs with virtually bobs) Yes, I have known of litters (rare, but it happens) where both parents are KNOWN to be NBTs. I have heard of at least one litter, some years ago of 11 puppies and 100% of them were NBTs. Any length of bob is still 'genetically' considered a NBT. It's modifiers that affect the length of the tail. I've never looked into doing the DNA testing. Not enough Aussie breeders do it and frankly IMO I'm not convinced that the testing is 100% accurate. Until they stop getting false positives/ false negatives, I'm not going to be doing the DNA tests.

Hi alpha bet, Have often wondered the same thing and like you - with limited information the results are inconclusive. I have done 2 litters and for an Aussie both have been relatively small - 6 and 5. Both breedings are NBT x NBT and in the first litter I had 3 tails, 3 NBTs and in this one I have had 4 NBTs and 1 tail. I do however (to throw a spanner in the works!) know of breeders who have done NBT x NBT and have ended up with a 'normal' sized litter. So I think it's really hard to find conclusive evidence. I'm very big however on not choosing a dog because of it's tail length. that's throwing too much of our gene pool away. Like you, I kept a tail from my first litter, and this will allow me to breed to NBTs hopefully without reducing the litter size at all. I think it's something that we need to research a little more, but hard to find information. Keep in mind also that this is not a straight gene that is playing here (hence the different tail lengths). We often have to look into the modifiers affecting the tail lengths also. I honestly believe that this is where some breeders have a tailed dog that has come back genetically Affected, and others have an NBT that has come back 'clear'.

Thanks everyone 0 I'm a bit smitten with them :) Kiesha09 - you will have quite a battle on your hands ;-). Kinta doesn't like to bake many merles, but when she does, she seems to always make them super pretty :).

Well I am pleased to announce that our long - awaited for litter has finally arrived. This litter of ours has been planned in conjunction with Ellagant Kennels and will be registered under their prefix, but I'm sure they won't mind me sharing pics here :D. Because of the joint litter, we have decided to go with a "positive" theme for the litter. Parents are: Ch Ellagant Full Of Antics CDX ADX JDM HT x Owjedoo Rugged Ranger. This is Kinta's 2nd and final litter and Texas' first. We had 5 babies born on Saturday - all healthy and thriving! Kinta is an amazing mum and the puppies are soooo settled, quiet, fat and happy! It's been a very hectic few days as I've had to head to a conference interstate today and only just got home. Only a few pics to share so I will try and get some more over the next few days. We had: 1 Blue Merle boy 2 Black Tri Boys 2 Black tri girls (1 tail) First cab off the rank - Gizmo the blue boy Oscar - BTD1 PJ aka Panda Junior as she looks similar to Panda from our previous litter - BTB1 Alfie - BTD2 And lastly: zee-two - BTB2 - aptly named because I think she's going to look a LOT like her big sis Zara, also from our first litter! and some fun shots PJ learning the art of sunning her belly Gizmo being a cuddle pie and a group shot!

Breeding With Bitches Who Have Had A C Section
leopuppy04 replied to Andisa's topic in Breeders Community
What do you do with a bitch who has had ONE C section - I would breed again from one C - section - in fact I am right now. 3 years ago my 2.5yr old bitch had a c-sect for primary inertia. Lots of things playing a part - difficult pregnancy, aborting puppies, infection etc etc. Slight temp drop at day 58, 48hrs later, nothing, prog results were at 5.5, so a c-section was decided upon. Now had we left her - what's to say she wouldn't have started whelping naturally later that night? what's to say that the intertia wasn't contributed to by the medication she was on and all of the infections? We have mated her again and she is now 7.5wks pregnant. Will wait and see what happens. Prog testing her from day 60 and hopefully she will whelp naturally. I would not give her another chance after this if she does require another c-section, and even if she doesn't, now that she's 5.5 I don't know if she'll have another litter anyway! None of her family lines have cesarians, or if they do, it hasn't been caused by inertia, it has been caused by natural things such as stuck puppies etc. Would you spay her? I plan to spay all of my girls once they are no longer breeding dogs, however if Kinta requires another c-section and it is not a difficult or emergent one, then I will have her spayed at that time. Would you breed her again? With any c-section I am happy to give them two goes, and then end at that... If you bred the bitch again after one c section did she require another or not? Would you breed with a daughter from a bitch who had a c section. yes, I have a 2.5yr old daughter from the same dog and I am planning on breeding her later in the year, and we (hopefully) will be keeping a girl from this litter too. For these pups, the 2 c section rule also applies, but from that, SHOULD they require further c-sections, then I would be looking at perhaps keeping only a boy, or being very strict and only breeding to lines that have no history of a c-section. I guess I'm willing to 'give' a little on this for a few reasons being that - it's not common in the breed to require a c-section, most are easy whelpers, they have a GOOD genetic genepool, so I want to continue these lines, and there are more concerning issues within the breed. HOWEVER don't get me wrong, I don't discount the fact that they have had inertia, and wouldn't want to continue the problem, so I would be careful about who I am breeding my girls to, if they tend to have a family history of it. I think only time will tell what my decision might be... -
Here is my very modest girl a few days shy of 8weeks.... any guesses?
-
 Underfoot - sounds as though you are going to have your hands full!! Same here Shellbyville!! At 5wks I thought Kinta was MASSIVE and she certainly expanded much bigger than last time! But now, at almost 8wks, I'd say she's no bigger than she was last time, though she hasn't 'dropped' them yet and they are still sitting up under her rib cage. I'd say where in for another litter around the 6 puppy mark, which suits me just fine :D. Enough to choose from, but not too much poop to clean up after ;)
-
Congrats Shelbyville!! Glad to hear that all went ok! It's all a bit stressful isn't it! I'm starting to wonder if the c-section last time for Kinta was the 'less stressful' way of having puppies
-
Good luck shelbyville!!

Hawkesdale and SS they are gorgeous! I'm continuing to get antsy now as Kinta continues to grow bigger and bigger and more and more uncomfortable. All she needs to do is make it to next weekend  How are things at your end Armahrni?
