what is junket tablet?.....will try to find that today. thx How to get Maxalon without the prescription? You can't. I'd not suggest going to a bulk-billing GP and asking for it for you for travel sickness . You might say that you've taken it before with no problems. You still need to know the proper dose for your dog, however. All medications can have side effects. Remember most human meds are designed for an 80kg male human. 1 Maxolon tablet = 10mg.

Taking clippers to breeds that aren't "designed" to be clipped gives weird results and some say the coat grows back thicker. Clipping the coat when dirty will blunt your clipper blades and scissors quickly. However, if you bath without getting out the matts/ tangles they'll only get worse. Maybe a groomer can advise?? I'd be hitting up your friend for the cost of blade and scissor sharpening. My MIL didn't bother to brush or bath her dog b4 I clipped it, so I didn't bother clipping him any more .

So how does he normally travel? In a crate? Just line it well with newspaper and take plenty to spare. Baby wipes will be handy for the trip if you need to give him a quick clean up. Dunno about what the vet said about Maxolon, considering it's given to human babies and children Be very careful giving human medicines to dogs- they don't all handle them the same as we do and it's a much lesser dose for small dogs.

What makes me think it could be attention seeking is that we mmight have just come in from wees (and he is really good about going outside too) and then he will just do two tiny little drops next to Aaron's office chair. I meant: Does he get attention for this? He shouldn't. Ignore it. If you don't want urine drops about, confine him to a crate or easy-to-clean area.

I agree that a crate will be really useful for you and pup, especially with kids. It's not a cage (though they look like them). As the dog is trained to use it, it becomes their safe place, like a den. You will save the cost of it many times over for all the things pup doesn't chew because he's in the crate. It's somewhere safe and pleasant for pup to go when you can't supervise him e.g. busy dinnertime etc. All 5 year olds need supervision with pups/ dogs to avoid problems. A crate helps with toilet training because theory is a pup won't wee and poo where it eats and sleeps. Crate must be made small enough so that pup doesn't just wee in the furthest corner, though (partition/ cardboard box in there).

I'm not sure what makes you think the weeing is attention seeking? Does he get lots of attention/ fuss for weeing inside? Ideally, you should ignore all accidents, but clean the area thoroughly. If caught in the act- quickly take dog outside and praise like mad if he performs outdoors. Usually will need a little walk around to get over the shock of being whisked away. Is it because Aaron's not paying attention that he misses the cues that the pup needs to go outside to wee? Pups need to go outside about hourly. Perhaps time seems to go faster if playing with the dog? They need to go after play, also.

I used a warm flannel with salty water for our dog's abscess on the face. For foot, I'd soak the whole paw in an ice cream container with warm, salty water. Squeeze it gently if there's pus/fluid. If it's an abscess, keep it moist and open. If a scab forms it only hides the developing infection underneath and as it gets worse, you just don't see it. Perhaps muzzle the dog if it's so painful for him. Betadine probably hurts like hell.

Am not a groomer myself, but many have bad backs. Your boss is obliged to comply with OH&S- that includes you having the right equipment so you're not always bending over the hydrobath etc. When you bend over with straight legs, you're using your back like a crane and it's not designed for it. Bend zee knees!! Back pain is nasty and not easy to treat ;). Hats off to groomers. Now I clip the poodles myself, I realise it's a lot of work.

What Breeds Can Be Used For Agility
Poodle wrangler replied to chloebear's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Our local dog club has all sorts of crossbreeds doing agility- but many are there just for fun, not for competition level. They've started introducing elements of agility to keep people interested in the beginner classes, also (short tunnels, very low jumps etc.) -
What are you feeding? You can add fish oil, or flaxseed oil to their diet to help.
-
Agree about checking with council. Why would you like another dog? How old are the 2 you have? Guess I'd want a good reason to add another pup/ dog, especially if all get on well as it is. You don't know how another will affect the household, plus the normal problems of puppyhood ;).

With Cody, it's really important to rinse, rinse, rinse VERY thoroughly. Poodle coat is thick and it's easy to leave shampoo in there (irritates skin). Conditioner can help get rid of excess shampoo and is nice on poodle coat. I'd try antihistamines from the vet, too for Minx- much less side effects than steroids, though you need to experiment to find which antihistamine suits her best. You can use human antihistamines, but need to get the right dosage from vet. Do you have a slicker brush? You could try that on Minx, too, to get rid of excess hair. With Cody, part the fur as you brush so that you get right down to the skin- poodles can have debris/ pollen left in their coats. Finish with a comb. Grooming tools:

Needs some more fibre by the sound of it e.g. veggies mashed, pumpkin etc.

Hmmm. My first instinct would have been to call the vet, also. Can you find a 24hour vet nearby? At least have a plan in case you have to take him to an emergency vet. Have their number on your mobile, so you can just get up and go if needed. No fever doesn't mean there's nothing wrong.
-
Glucosamine is derived from shellfish. That'd be in the joint formula? Do dogs have shellfish allergies, like humans do? In an emergency, you give adrenaline or hydrocortisone by injection, I think (both prescription drugs). Antihistamines if a less severe reaction. Best wishes

How Long To Clip & Groom A Maltese/shitzu
Poodle wrangler replied to Chocolate's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Singer Sewing oil. Old toothbrush is useful for getting the fur out. -
No, I don't take my older dog in for yearly checkups. When I take either dog in, the vet gives them a general check-over also e.g. listen to heart, feel them over, check ears, eyes etc., check vaccinations up-to-date. They always ask if I have any questions or concerns. Can someone recommend a better vet in your area? Or was this uncharacteristic?

Small Breeds For Competition?
Poodle wrangler replied to CaseyKay's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Poodles don't have to be frou frou sorts of dogs- you can clip them however you like. You won't have fur all over your car, either, but they do need clipping every 4-6 weeks and brushing twice a week (if short). Poodles can be cool, too :D poodlefan does dog sports with her poodles. I hope she doesn't mind me putting up a couple of her pics that she's posted b4. -
If either dog starts humping-type behaviour, then I put a stop to it straight away, "No shag!" (gets a laugh, but I say it firmly and seriously to the dogs). Both my dogs are desexed males. Happens only rarely. Humping behaviour can be about dominance. Don't be fooled by a poodle's size- they can be bossy, dominant dogs and need good, consistent leadership from you. Put a stop to it and crate him/ isolate him if needed. It's not fair on your other dog. Ignoring a poodle is a very effective punishment- works well as they love your attention so much!

Where Do You Buy Your Clippers?
Poodle wrangler replied to tramissa's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
No, he's not. On Hesapanda's recommendation I also use and him and find him brilliant. Ditto. Excellent service. I had trouble with a blade I bought (can happen anywhere) and he was on the phone, when I couldn't fix it (dufus here), he fixed it and serviced my clippers for the price of one way post only :D Turnaround was a total of 4 days (post to him AND back!). -
Omg There's Hair Everywhere!
Poodle wrangler replied to amy_h's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I used a slicker brush on my sister's short-haired dog (RidgebackXStaffyX?) and it helped get out a lot of excess fur. If you get one, just make sure it's SOFT or EXTRA SOFT and avoid the supermarket ones which probably aren't labelled soft or firm at all. A blow dry will blast a lot of fur off- the force dryers used by groomers are the best. Know what someone suggested to me if I didn't have a force dryer? Turn your vacuum on to "blow" and use that! This was from a groomer/ breeder. I have a mini poodle- similar size to pug. Would have given it a try, but have only a crappy vac which doesn't do that (poodle fur should be blow dried b4 you clip for better result). Alternatively, get a poodle- they don't drop fur -
Summer Poodle Clip
Poodle wrangler replied to Poodle wrangler's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Took some pics yeterday. I don't have a #7 blade, so did both dogs with a #5F body- though it looks much shorter on the apricot standard because his fur's not so thick. I think the #7 might be too short on him. Had a lesson from Charlie's breeder, too, so the scissoring's better. Day after, took the dogs to the beach . Ah well, they are dogs after all -
Flea Treatment For Chihuahua
Poodle wrangler replied to moggy's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I also use Advantix for fleas and ticks- no problems. Frontline Plus is another spot-on type of preventative. Both continue to wrok after bathing (obviously you wouldn't put it on just before a bath, though). There's also the tablet type. Check out the flea info. pinned -
