  1. Sidoney,I think your post on page one sums it up so well!!!!! Tony
  2. The Alpha roll is a movement that many do not understand or take out of context. To really understand it clearly we need to refer to the Experts. Those Experts are the Wild Dogs themselves. Many may have not had the benefit of watching live Wild Dog behaviour, but their behaviour will clear up confusion. The Alpha or Top Dog will of course at times put a lower ranked member of the Pack back in it's place. The Alpha will stop its disciplinary action as soon as the lower ranked Dog submits. The Alpha roll is used by the Alpha Dog but for a different reason than that described above. The Alpha or stronger Dog will throw the other Dog on its back, then go straight for the Throat. In full on Alpha rolls killing the other Dog is the intent, not just submission!!! This is the reason why Humans throwing a Dog on his back is dangerous, because the Dog naturally feels his very life is threatened!!!!Thats why many Dogs put in that position will come up fighting!!!To them they are fighting for their very life. Where Humans have really got things screwed up is,using the Alpha Roll which to a Dog is life threatening, when they only want the Dog to submit.Using the Alpha Roll in most cases is overkill!!! Tony
  3. Welcome Laron.Great to see you venture in.Laron, thanks for taking the time to post. Tony
  4. I hope that all here, have the maturity and rationality to give this Girl a fair go if she does venture in. Sadly some will more than likely go on the attack, as some have to be right all the time. I applaud this Girl for even considering venturing in.She is going out of her way,as she owes none of us anything!!!!The only ones that she owes anything are her Clients. Tony
  5. Miranda.why are you so determined to drag this Garbage on!!!!Read what Chris has to say in his Posts about looking for another Trainer. And FGS give it a break!!! Tony
  6. lablover,no Horse unless born with a deformity is born with a Hard Mouth. Two of the major causes of Hard mouths are poor or ineffective Mouthing methods and poor Horsemanship. Horses,do have an inherent oppositional reflex that Dogs and other Animals carry.Run any unbroken Horse in and ask him to do certain things. What will you get?A Fight!!!He will resist and fight till he is shown where to go and how to release the Pressure. His fighting is all about him trying to get relief of Stimuli or Pressure. Yes many Horse Training Methodology"s are based on yielding, but that does not come naturally but has to be taught. Tony
  7. Mrs D,what Breed are the two on either end?Lol Tony
  8. Rom,I have to back Andoria up here.Andoria posted details of the Approach her Trainer had taken with her Dog.Lots of us read it and yes we disagreed!!!!Plenty were replying to her thread. I read it it all and did not agree with it,but just took Note and left it at that!!!The People that objected or disagreed had the chance to reply to Andoria in the thread as many did. I have a Problem with this.Yes some People From here took it upon themselves to send the Trainer, mindless,Pathetic and Hatred via Email. Rom, Andoria is not stating everybody here did it,only some. She is not insulting anybody as she is only referring to a minority that took this Pathetic course of Action!!! I myself really wonder at the Fruitcakes that did this!!!To those Fruitcakes I say, invest a bit of time into getting some good mental Help!!!! I mean for godsake what was wrong with Emailing the Trainer and saying,we do not like your Approach and are really wondering why you are going this way?A bit of rationality, decency would have got you an answer. Tony
  9. Spoilt,I know you and Ramses will do well!!!Think back to another time when you were faced with, doing something a little daunting. You handled that experience and you will handle the Demonstration!!!! Tony

    Bones Etc

Roo, my last pup started on Bones at 9 Weeks.I started him on softer bones and he soon progressed to Chicken Frames,Wings,Necks,Flaps and as Jimmy said Brisket Bones. Tony
  11. I had some Pups grab the Lead whilst walking. In these cases, they were trying to take control. The most determined one has been my AB Pup.we would be early stages of the walk and he would grab the Lead.I would ignore it and ask him to walk faster or change direction.I would pay no heed to grabbing the Lead and he soon gave it up Tony
  12. Brendan,Pandi pretty well covered what I was going to say.One thing have you got a Crate the Pup can go to? tony
  13. Brendan,what are the actual Problem/s? Tony
  14. Jimmy, it was a sign your Pup was fearful.Your Pup wanted to initiate a Flight Response to take it away from the Source of Fear. Most Pups that are in a state of Fear will use Flight as a Defense. Jimmy, your Pup is young, your on the right track with the Socialisation and training. Tony
  15. I always feed Mince Raw.I have never seen Dogs in the Wild lugging a Micro Wave around with them. Tony
  16. Jimmy, put a Collar and lead on Him.When he will not get off the Couch, gently tug the Lead and call him off the Couch. Tony
  17. Jimmy its Fear alright.Take note of the Body Language you described in the first incident with the Dog growling behind the Fence. You also said, the Pup wanted to run back the way you came.Thats a flight Response. Jimmy,I would start at the start and look at is your Pup seeing you as Pack Leader. The Pup has to see you as Leader, otherwise he or she will not look to you for Guidance and Leadership.Be Careful when your Pup does show Fear that you do not reinforce the Fearful Behaviour.when a Pup or Dog is behaving in a Fearful Manner and we give attention, praise and so on we are reinforcing the Fear. When out walking your Pup and he or she shows fear, act casual, downplay, basically ignore the behaviour and keep walking. The Pup will be looking to you and if your acting nonchalant, it will be a big help. Jimmy as the Pup is only 12 Weeks, for now maybe shorter Walks in a quiter area if that is possible. tony
  18. Red,your Top Dog or should be so assert yourself with the Pup.You want to wash the pup, so go ahead and wash it. I would put the amount of water in the Bath you want.Put a Leash and Collar on the Pup.Have some Treats handy the Pup likes.Put the Pup in the Bath.If she scrambles and carrys on, just make sure she stays in the Bath.Just quitely and firmly hold the Pup in the Bath if she is objecting. The Moment, the Pup stands Quitely without objecting praise Her and give her a Treat. You are rewarding her for the Behaviour you want.Keep this Procedure up and she will soon come to like being washed. Tony
  19. Take him to Puppy School as you planned.Time to start setting some Boundaries for Him and show him by your Behaviour you are top Dog. Tony

    Growling

Sonny, have a think about Leadership and make sure you are treating the Dog as a Dog. Tony
  21. yes I use Offal, such as Hearts,Kidneys,Tongues,Cheeks and so on. Tony
  22. Kitakins,I gather you have never tried Roo yourself? Its not bad Gear at all.I cannot see a problem with the Pet Grade for your Dog. Tony
  23. Kitakins,I take it you do not live in a W.A. Country Town?If you did I would be going round to the Local Chillers and getting the Roo at the right Price. Tony
