I agree with Cosmolo here.So called sensitive Dogs to me are weak nerved, low threshold dogs and ones I steer clear of. Tony

Chubbz, the pup from the content of your post certainly has a negative link to the Check Chain. Like others have said,I would be throwing the Chain to one side and be putting on a flat collar. Tony

Low Drive Versus High Drive Dogs
Tonymc replied to ness's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Lab,sorry for the delay in replying to you.At the moment I am way too busy too compete with Dogs or Horses.Currently are tied up with bringing a new business to Australia. What are the Dogs used for you asked?Droving, mustering, contract mustering, guard and hunting. I have an interest in a number of Horse and Dog Sports.I would love to get involved in Schutzhund. Also I would like to see Cattledog trials conducted from Horseback. Tony -

Low Drive Versus High Drive Dogs
Tonymc replied to ness's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I love full on high drive Dogs, whether its a Stumpy,BC,Kelpie, hunting dog,Heeler or American Bulldog.much easier to harness and channel the high drive than trying to create drive. All the high drive Dogs I have had of course have higher thresholds and much better nerves. Tony -
I would say that Pack Order in Domestic Dogs, has more variance than the rigid pack order of Wolves. The difference to me is tied in with survival.Survival for the average domestic Dog is easier than survival for the Wolf. I and others have noted also the same thing comparing domestic dogs to wild dogs in the Mountains. Tony

Fennell V Milan - I'm So Confused.
Tonymc replied to Joypod's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Joy,there will always be Trainers with different approaches, different methods whether it be Horses,Dogs,Cattle or whatever. The Bottomline is the result you get with your Dog.Read about different Trainers that appeal to you.Take from different People what you feel comfortable with.Try what feels right to you with the Dog.Note the result you get in the responses of your Dog.If you do not get the result you want then change the approach. Training Dog To Use Cat/dog Door
Tonymc replied to nellbell's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Nell, does the Dog object to the Door from both sides? I would try a few different approaches till you get the result your after. Find a food treat that really motivates him, prop the flap up and lay a trail towards the Door.Gradually run the food trail further so that eventually the food trail continues, through the Door and outside. Use a Coacher.Find or use a Freinds small dog that will freely walk through the Door.Have both Dogs inside and encourage them to play and carry on.Then have the other Dogs Owner put their Dog through the Door. Another way would be to use Clicker Training.Firstly get the Dog to link a Click to a reward.Put him on a lead and walk to the Door.Encourage him to even slightly put his head in the Door. When he does click and reward immeditately. Then start asking for more and click and reward as he progresses further through the Door.once he is fine with this, you can run the Lead through the Door and position yourself on the outside, call him and reward him when he moves further through.Build it up in stages till he walks right through the Door.whilst your at this Stage the Flap is still propped up and out of the way. When he is walking through the Door comfortably then its time to teach him to push on the flap.Take to to the Door and reward any contact he makes with the Flap graduating from a touch to a push. You could also make up a piece of Timber with a Hole the same size as the Door in it.This Piece of Timber would be on a flat base for stability. This Mock Door could be easily set up anywhere and would be a great practise tool. You could use this mock Door with rewards as a lead up to the real Door. tony -
Zoo, Lamb flaps are a portion of the ribcage. They contain some meat and fat comprising the covering on the Ribs. There is bone which is the lower ends of the Ribs. Tony

Pulling Washing Off The Line
Tonymc replied to Chaddy's Mummy's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Chaddy,I have to go along with alot of what Erny said. This Dog does need much more stimulation.Notice his behaviour when he gets to the Farm on the Weekend. Chaddy undoubtedly this Dog comes from a line of working Border Collies and has high drive, hence chasing the Birds.A Working Dog with high drive that does not have an outlet for the drive in the Breeds usual occupation, will try to find other ways to satisfy the drive. This is what the bird chasing is all about.I am wondering also has he pulled the Clothes off the line everytime or only sometimes? Chaddy, as mentioned above due to drive many working Dogs in surburbia need allowances made for their drive. I would also check your Leadership of this Dog. Tony -
Zoo,your Vet is right.I would go with Pinnacle"s advice. The Safety of certain types of Bones for Dogs comes down the individual habits of the individual Dog.If your Dog chews bones then the Wings are ok.If the Dog tends or trys to swallow whole then stick with bigger Bones. Tony
-
Dogfish, a meaty Bone is on with Meat on it. Tony

Andoria, how old is this Dog?Its unlikely to be a Fracture.I would observe him over the next day or two and see if the Limp subsides. Tony

There was a Study done by Scientist"s about 10 years ago inregard to the danger of Deodorants containing Aluminium.Any Company still using it is being very slack and running a risk. Tony

Tracie, this is not the end of the World. The Dog is actually just being a Dog.I would follow Peresphones advice in this matter.I would not even entertain rehoming this Dog as to me its a very small problem.I would look at it differently if he were out killing Sheep. Tony

Koolie, how long since this line of Dogs has done any work? Tony
