I woke up this morning to an early phone call from my sister who was about to bored a plane, that our family dog Scruffy (matlesexsilky) had fallen in our pool during the night we don't know if she drowned as she couldn't get out or fell in as she had a stroke we would of had her 18 years this may my mum is not handleing it too well as she normally sleeps inside but she wouldn't come in , mum said she has been actin strange all week and her back legs were playing up she was going to the vet tomorrow with her but mum is feeling bad and hopes she did just fall in thinking no one would save her...............i have been with my mum all day and just don't know what to do for her she is a mess and feels so bad she has fallen in before and we were always there to get her out she manages to get through the fence no matter how we block it up. Scruff i remeber the day mum brought you home from the pound as your were going to be put to sleep you were suppose to be a german shepard but mum couldn't leave you there as your big brown eyes grabed hold of her heart. i didn't like you at first as every time you i went to pick you up you would wee everywhere as you were scared as your last owners bashed you, after awhile you came to trust us but still to the very day you use to cringe when we picked you up all but mun you just adored her and she you, you loved going on our boat playing with other dogs and you loved to swim, brandy was your best friend is not herself she will not leave mum alone and just lays there with a sad look in her eyes she knows your gone. you were a fighter and we all thought you would out live us all you were loved and will be missed dearly we are sorry that no one could save you and that you were alone when you died you probably did it for mum so she didn't have to deciede later on to have you pts. go and play with cadbury and blue and wait for us our scruff gril we love you.

Tear Stains, Again............................
collie angel replied to pesh's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
One of my sister's has a maltese and buys something like a powder i think and puts it in his food that seems to work......i will find out if no one else knows what it is called.... -
i didnt really buy it for the muesli, i thought it was just another dog dry and they make it sound so good which is probably why people are buying it my other dog didnt touch it but she doesn't eat much anyway bella must take after her mum having a sweet tooth . cheers nicky
-
thanks guys i dont think i will be giving it to her anymore i will try the veggiemite with water over her dry food she only gets this in the morning then i give her mince with any left over vegies and pasta or rice which she loves.

black lab its cost around 6-7$ for 6 meals/bags where as a bag of super coat i buy is $9-$10 and lasts me 2 weeks with 2 dogs and super coat is suppose to be better for them.
-
thanks i just get worried about tring new things as you dont know whats in them i almost always give her supercoat (i come from a home where my mum always gave our dogs pal dry so dont think im doing too bad and have made mum change to super coat) i want to find the best dry dog food for my budget and also that bella enjoys i dont mind spending the money if it will be better for her in the long run. so thanks nicky
-
Hi I normally buy supercoat for purina one but my dogs will only eat if if they have to, i went shopping and saw VIP meaty muesli so thought i would try it out bella loved it she ate it as soon as i put it in the bowl, what i want to know is this ok for them as i will keep buying it if it is. http://www.vippetfoods.com.au/dogfood/dry/...+Muesli/1.26kg/

-
bella use to have supercoat but she didnt really like it even when i soaked it in warm water, i now give her optimum and she seems to be doing really well on thatno flakey skin!!!! plus her raw bones and meat, veg, rice or pasta.

YES it is an emotional time for everyone but the right choice will be made what is best for scruffy, she is off to see the vet tonight as mum had to go to the doctors herself today to see if she needs to have a bone graft done on her ankle (had a motor bike accident in europe in july) then dad and mum will take her up to see what he thinks is best she seems to be doing better but thats for the vet to deciede. will keep you posted.

Hi thanks you to everyone for your advice, yes this is a very hard time scruffy is doing well atm she has those days where she is like a "pup" again normally when my sister's maltese is staying with mum and dad and thats at least every week (my sister is a flight atendent and her hubby a cop and works nights so zac stays at mums instead of being on his own) Mum has said if she was in any pain she when get her PTS but she wont do it because she is old. Like some of you we hope she passes in her sleep but we know that that might not happen. schnauzer: We had a 17 year old collie and he couldn't get up in the end, dad had to lift him on the grass to go to the toilet he got sick really quickly and i remember the day he brought me home from school over 10 years ago i was 14 and told me he wanted to put ceaser to sleep me being my selfish teenager said no way and they told me they wouldn't i remember coming home from school and he had died they told me he just passed away......the other day talking about scruffy he finally admitted that he had the vet come out and do it at home so i wouldn't know it still upsets me now but i know it was for the best at the time i hated the world. I know my parents love there pets too much to let them suffer. thanks again guys will keep you posted she is going to the vet on monday to see if she has improved. nichola

My Mum has a 17 year old silky x maltese and she has been up at the vets last week as mum thought it was her time the vet said she had a bladder infection and gave her something for it scruffy is still active at times (normally when she knows someone has come over or she has seen my mum. She is a bit blind and she can't hear too well but the vet said she was still ok however my dad thinks its time mum made a choice on what she wants to do mum said if she was in pain she would PTS but as she is only having problems with her bladder (which we think are her kidneys packing up) the vet said give her another week to see how she goes. The sad thing is my mum loves this dog move than life and has her 50th birthday next week and we dont want her to have to make this choice. Why is this so hard ? why do we love our animals so much and not have enough time with them i know scruffy is old but we have had her for 15yrs its not long enough if you ask me. nichola

Last night i went to my mums and as she was having a big clean up she gave me my burmese cat Blue ashes to take home, as he was my cat she thought i should have him, i felt a bit funny taking them as mum kept his brother cadbury he also died a year after him i thought they should be together. Anyway he is now in my wall unit with his rose and i can see him everyday now, Blue died by getting hit by a car when he was almost 2 i only had him for a short time but i was still crushed as it had taken me 5 years to get before i could bring myself to get another burmese and i lost him so soon to a road accident just like my other one thankfully the cats i have now dont EVER go out side. You can now RIP My Blueberry Muffin  i loved you and im sorry i couldn't save you.
