How Did You Choose Your Breed Or Breed ?
collie angel replied to jase293's topic in General Dog Discussion
my family have always had Rough Collies my mum and dad use to breed them before i was born so i really had no choice but in saying that i do not see my life with out one in it im now 31yrs old and im owned by 2 girls who both are very different from each other one is a cheeky little miss and the other is quiet compared to her, they are so loyal loving and smart dogs and i love there long coats and big snouts lol i had 2 growing up both lived till 16-17 one after the each other so there is not one memory of not owning a collie i would like to own a Samoyed one day or a husky but with owning cats im not sure if that is right for us but i do love them -
Great sounds like Lilly would like it just trying to do something with her as i think she may be bored we walk her daily and hubby takes them to the dog park most days but she seems to have alot of energy not like Bella lol and she loves the tunnels and ramp at the park.

both Bella and Lilly came from the same breeder 5 years apart and both were chosen for me by her I wanted lilly to be different to bella and different they are lol bella is a princess in the making and lilly is well a nice way to put it is she is a farm dog lol loves getting dirty and playing very cheeky and i love her because she is this way.... good luck

yeah i no she is not a nice person at all my dad owned both of the houses and we had been renting our one from him for about 5 years before we brought our one he told me she was nuts when she brought it but we thought she was nice.... i just feel so horrible to lilly as she loves playing outside and running around when we talk them for there walks at night we let her off in the park for a big run im glad she works most weekends so i can play with lilly in the back yard and let her make as much noise as she likes..... When we got the letter i was so upset i called the council telling him i wanted him to come to my place and check my dogs himself as she made me feel like a bad pet owner which i know i am not but i could of cried i was that upset, my hubby is not working atm as he had an accident at work and almost lost his leg so he is home during the day and if he goes to doctors or is in hospital they are inside i feel i am doing everything right but if im not im open to suggestions to help. if we move because of her he says we wont get someone else like her or worse (if there can be) this lady is so horrible she is a nurse there was an accident out side of our house lady was trapped in the car she came out had a look and went back inside didnt even help she really is a piece of work so best to ignore her i think but i would love to say something to her but not worth it incase she harms my dogs -

there is no talking to this women she is nuts!!! we use to get along even going to dinner with her and bbqs etc as she lives on her own then we had a problem with a water pipe we live in a duplex and my mum had died a 2 months before then hubby was in hospital nearly lost his leg i got home late at night and the pipe had burst to make a long story short she was not happy i had not got a plummer out at 11pm at night and he didnt come till 10am the next morning i call several and he was the only one i could get out took all day to fix and she chucked a mental at me where i would normally give it back i was calm and told her not to speak to me like im a 5 year old child and we have to get along as we live next door to each other but she kept going on and on and when it came time to pay she would not pay the plummer felt so bad for me he only charged me for the parts as she was that bad since then she has been a real bitch and i hate living there...... so no she is not someone i can approach. my yard is as big as a normal size yard as we are on the corner but its a hard one as it is split level so i can't really dont know what to do besides getting the back fence done and the side fence adding that extra bit on top which we will probably be doing. i feel she is a dog and dogs bark i didnt think she barked all that much she is inside alot of the time she does play bark if she is swimming under the hose she goes off as she is having fun, we have to bring her in when we mow the law as she goes for the lawn mower i think she is scared of it, bella doesnt do any of this she is from the same breeder who is well known so i know there is nothing wrong with her breeding and the problems only started when we had a falling out with her, so i really do agree with you just so hard and there are so many other dogs that bark more than mine do, i think if it wasnt for her i would not be worried so much. -

our other neighbours have said they only bark when people walk past just like the other dogs around but my next door neighbour is the one who complained we don't get along anyway and in 7 years this is the first complaint we have had so council said not to worry to much but she is a complainer so i want to do everything i can to fix the problem which i honestly didn't think i had Lilly is still young and learning she is very smart and i have been working with her to correct it and only want to use a collar if i have to i have read good and bad things about it being we are on a corner block and have a split level yard she can see through our back wooden fence in some places we have a high fence on both sides but if she hears noses or someone is hammering, or making a loud nose on a fence she will go off my next door neighbour i think torments them a little as she was fine before she moved in. any advice would be great like i said if i dont need to use this collar i would prefer not to. thanks -

Mine aren't show dogs but I don't want to clip her fur I've seen it on a golden retriver but just didn't no and it's alot of money to waste if her fur is going to be an issue may wait till our back fence is done and see if that helps first she is inside alot but when she is outside and sees ppl that's it and with one complaint to council I cdont want another. -
Hi i have read a bit about these from the guys on here who have used them, but was wondering how they would go on a collie??? as collars are normally hidden under there fur???
-
thanks i may need a water proof one as lilly swims in her water bowls all the time to. how do they work, i was told it sprays near the nose, as collies have a big snout wondering if it will work
-
thanks is it worth giving them ago???

My neighbour complained to the council about my 2 dogs saying they bark 24 7 number 1 they sleep inside no barking, my OH is home during the day they bark when ppl walk past like normal dogs do and then they stop normally after 3 barks he will go out there and shut them up but normally after 2 they stop themselevs and 3 all the sourounding neighbours say that my dogs dont bark that much at all but for our peice of mind if we are going to be out for longer than 2 hrs in the day they come inside, if we go out at night they are inside we have a 3 way bathroom and have put a baby gate up so they have a bit of room in there they are really good inside dont pee or wee and i have left a video recording to see if they do bark and they dont only when they hear us at the door you get the happy yap bark that they are excited to see you. my council said not to stree about it as we have been there for 7 years and no one has complained and if she complains again all i have to do it get the other neighbours to sign a letter which they are all willing to do, my neighbour is trying to cause problems as we had a falling out last year over a bust water pipe i had to get fixed happend at 8pm at night and the plummer couldnt come till the next morning she didnt like that and when off her tree at me, i was not even rude as i knew we had to live next door to each other and before that she was coming over for BBQs getting my hubby to help her with things around the house as she lived on her own we did alot for her and now she is treating us like this, she even brought the dogs xmas treats at xmas so its strange how all of a sudden my dogs bark all the time....ahhh thats my vent for the day. anyway good luck

-
hi kerryz, i have a 14wk pup at atm thankfully hubby is home with her, when we are out we lock her i suppose into the bathroom area and put a baby gate up on the door (i have a big 3 way bathroom) when we are home she is outside so she knows that when she is bigger thats where she will be unless its bed time or time to come inside. i never bring her in after she eats, or if she sleeps in her bed/basket in front of the tv at night i put her outside to pee when she wakes up, this seems to be working for me (touch wood) everyone is different. Also i may be wrong but the peeing your saying he does is that a undesexed male thing??? i know my sisters male maltese pees everywhere but in saying that he is desexed. mmmmmmmm I would be taking your boy to puppy school it does help and not only that it will socialise your puppy with other dogs. good luck and lets see some pics
