This, I also teach the words 'leave' and 'enough' so that they have different words for the different behaviours I may want them to stop. Leave is more of a pre-emptive word used to show my expectation(so I am using it right now as I am watching my basset who keeps licking at an itchy spot on her back where there is medication). Enough is used if the dogs are getting silly or in your face or getting a bit too exuberant and the circumstances don't permit it or to end a game in a hurry if needed.

LOL, never thought of mealworms, I have a container of them in the fridge and a tub breeding in the old caravan. :p -

Honestly you can't win on forums, if you resurrect an old thread people go on about how you're bringing up an old thread, if you start a new one people whinge about that. People are joining in so they obviously aren't worried and there isn't an actual requirement for you to be interested in every thread posted on here so you can actually just not click if you don't want to! -
Scaly Patch Above Tail?
kelpiecuddles replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Ok, I'm not sure how I'll go covering it as it's in pretty much the easiest spot for her to lick. She's sleeping in front of me right now so I'll; put some on and see if she'll leave it alone or whether I need to work something out to keep her away from it. -
Scaly Patch Above Tail?

Just googled and it's not the same. Active ingredient of Daktarin is miconazole, any thoughts on this brand? Otherwise I can go and get some canestan from the chemist -

I've just pulled it out and it's Daktarin, anyone know if that's the same as Canestan? How often do you apply it minimax and is it a problem if she licks it or do i need to try to stop her? -
Scaly Patch Above Tail?

I have both and also Cetrigen spray. Is it worth trying one of those maybe for a week before taking her to the vet? If it was something life threatening or seriously upsetting her I'd obviously be there straight away but this is something that's been there off and on in the past and has only just recently gotten worse so it's not a vet rush job if you know what i mean... Come to think of it I think I sprayed Cetrigen on it once before but I can't remember whether it help -
Might seem weird at first glance but look up something like the trading post and have a look through the dog listings, it will soon be clear.

That's what I thought too Lisey

Wow that;s interesting, a few of them I could take a pretty good guess why so I'll be watching to see what the reason is.

My basset's favorite treat is raw carrot. My daughter just sat and ate a carrot and the whole time Josie has watched her wishing and hoping that the carrot would levitate out of her hand and in to her bed LOL. I told Celeste she was being watched so she shared the last piece with the dog and she's a happy hound now

My basset has a spot just above her tail which is quite scaly, almost like psoriasis in texture. If I didn't know better I would say it was a flea allergy but she definately doesn't have fleas, regardless I retreated her with Advantix about 4 days ago and made sure I placed some of it near her tail(since she has a long body). I am now wondering whether it might be a fungal skin infection so off to the vet in the next few days to get it checked out. Before I go though I just wanted to check about antifungals for dogs. I seem to recall that many years ago when I had an animal that needed a fungal infection treated I got the first tube from the vet at great cost but was able to get exactly the same thing from the chemist at a much lower price. Can anyone tell me which one it was because I'm doing my best to keep costs down at the moment and if the vet advises this treatment for her I will get the equivilent from the chemist instead. Any other thoughts on what it might be greatly appreciated, it seems to be fairly itchy.

Golden Retriever Puppy - Feeding Query
kelpiecuddles replied to Kat70's topic in General Dog Discussion
Also most goldens I have met are food fiends so don't let him sucker you in to over feeding him  -
Found her profile on animal stars: http://www.southerncrossanimalstars.com.au/Southern_Cross_Animal_Stars/Flicks_Page.html

Maybe, older looking border(or atleast with a bit of a 'grizzled' looking muzzle) and her owner with long, blonde hair?
-
Don't know, it was just a segment within a kids show with a border called Flick doing some tricks.

Any Ragdoll Rescues?
kelpiecuddles replied to mixeduppup's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Oh yes, that's the plan. Not long ago Amber was the new cat, we lost our other older girl only about 12 months ago. Luckily Amber comes from a background at a breeders where she was living with lots of other cats so she is quite accepting of new faces, so any issues are more likely to come from Ciara's end ;) . I have a spare room which will be Ciara's space to start with, I also have a large outdoor run which she can spend some time in if she needs her own space at any stage. -
Any chance there are some other dogs who he gets along well with whose owners would be willing to join you for some calm down time before class? I found it very valuable with my kelpie, really helped to get the sillies out before class.

Just thought I'd share a little piccie here to show how far my Amber came. When she arrived she was terrified of people, about 6 weeks before I could even touch her. This is her today, watching TV with my daughter, excuse the crud quality as it was taken on my phone and the pile of washing in the background, I'm using a cold day to fold clothes :p Just think that down the track this could be Ciara :) -
How long before the class do you arrive? I always try to get to the park 30-40 minutes before the class with my excitable ones and go for a bit of a walk to settle them before going 'into the fray'
-
Use the 'shit sandwich' formula to try to keep them onside. Start by talking about how greaat the facility is, then talk about the problem and finish by telling them how great it is that everyone is able to enjoy the park or something to that effect. Always end on a positive so they feel positive about the letter.

ah missed it! Might be back on later if you want to watch cartoons in the meantime LOL

Interesting! I'll have to remeber that if I run out of kitty litter. I pay $13 for 20kg of chook pellets so that would be pretty economical. I did try Max's litter once and wasn't happy with how wet it stayed though so couldn't see me using it all the time. Unfortunately being in my ensuite and all of about 5 metres away from where I sleep I'm just that little bit more picky about even the slightest smell than I would be if it was in laundry or similiar. -
Previous posts suggest to me that the OP has atleast one kelpie. Nothing I would consider particularly 'scary' looking. i have a kelpie and everyone seems to really like her.
