When Are You Too Sick To Have Dogs?
kelpiecuddles replied to puddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
How sad Sounds like she would be more suited to a cat or two, no walking required and if raised on dry food and given a nice big tub of water they cope fine if their owner is away overnight in an emergency. A friend of ours who passed away from cancer spent most of her final year reclining with a furry kitty on her lap. -
Harnesses For Dogs With A Pronounced Breast Bone?
kelpiecuddles replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
The ezydog might work as long as the strap sits above her breast bone rather than crossing over it, I think it would rub if it did. Might have to take her for a drive in to town one day and try a few on. -
Harnesses For Dogs With A Pronounced Breast Bone?
kelpiecuddles replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think the puppia ones would be worse unfortunately. Atleast with the ones where the chest piece is seperate it just slides to the side, I think the puppia one would have the whole harness twisted unfortunately. I'll have a look at Black Dog and see what they have :) -
My basset has quite a sticky out breast bone and I find most harnesses don't sit well on her as the strap that runs down the chest slips to one side or the other. Anyone able to recommend something that might solve this? Even better if it has a car attachment as that's what we use it for but I'll just use a short clip attachment if not.

In Regards To The Topic Desex Age
kelpiecuddles replied to andrewang's topic in General Dog Discussion
Seriously I used to work at a vet clinic that used cheap, nasty anaesthetics and things to cut costs, didn't work there any longer than i had to, it was not a nice clinic. I would be looking at quality of service over price. -

I too wouldn't have called $350 a particularly large amount for the surgery, it;s not much more than a spey would usually cost. That said if his ads second one dropped at the age of six months I think you could safely wait until 7 or 8 months or even 10 months. -
Ada Dogs And Access To All Areas?
kelpiecuddles replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
It's not a big deal, I'm just starting to come to terms with the fact that when our girls wag their way off this mortal coil we might have to be dogless for wuite a while I was clutching at straws trying to come up with ideas of how we could have a dog but still do the extensive four wheel drive trips we have planned down the track LOL. Unfortunately the places we plan to go would often be in national parks which makes it impossible with a dog in tow and I'm not prepared to get a dog and then board it for long periods, unless my mum and dad would be willing to have it while we were away(which they might be if it was small to medium size and non-shedding and they weren't going to be away themselves, they only recently lost their old oodle at 16 years). -
Foster Carers Needed Urgently
kelpiecuddles replied to Justapup's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I saw this in the news yesterday, so sad i too would have been happy to help foster but then realised how far away they are. If any are being transported interstate though I'd happily take one on. -
If you are looking for somewhere cheap to camp/caravan with your dog/s, horse, etc we stayed at Jugiong Show ground a week ago and it was great for camping, lovely and grassy with some nice big shade trees, toilet block, barbecue and kids playground a short walk away. No free showers but it is right next to the public swimming pool so if you were desperate you could pay for a swim and have a shower while you were there :p It's also essentially free, they only ask a gold coin donation towards the upkeep of the grounds. No booking is needed but I imagine it wouldn't be avilable during events so maybe worth googling incase there is a country show, etc on.

Ada Dogs And Access To All Areas?
kelpiecuddles replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
I realised that but was under the impression that they had access in order to get used to all situations, etc. I'm sure someone told me that many, many years ago but they must have been incorrect -
Ada Dogs And Access To All Areas?
kelpiecuddles replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
Ah right, OK. I assumed GD puppies had the same rights, that's a bummer. I guess I'd have to ask NPWS what their policy is. -
Atleast aussies and borders are both beautiful breeds so it's not too much of an insult LOL I must admit I'd probably stand there with a puzzled look on my face thinking that she might have been a border but something wasn't right about her shape and then the penny would drop LOL
-
Just wondering if anyone knows whether registered assistance dogs(and more specifically ADA puppies) are access all areas in the same way guide dogs are? Wondering whether an ADA puppy carer arrangement in the future would still allow us to travel through national parks, etc. :)

I'd suggest that the well bred ones are getting better and the badly bred ones are as agressive but possibly more unstable than they were when bred for a purpose. Atleast when they were bred for a purpose the people breeding them would still have been doing it in a mostly responsible way and keeping their dogs properly secured. It's the irresponsible mostly BYBers dragging them down.

Dogs Are Weird...just Saying...
kelpiecuddles replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
While I'm here can anyone recommend a not too expensive product for getting stains out of fur? my basset gets an orangey coloured staining in her skin folds under where her collar sits, it's not irritated or smelly, just the skin oils discolourinh her fur i'm pretty sure. -
Did you say let's go swimming in an icy cold dam in the middle of winter, oh yes please mum! Oh wait no, you said warm bubble bath followed by relaxing in front of the heater, are you mad woman? You'd think I regularly beat her with the shampoo bottle
-
My dogs need a bath in a big way and I only have two choices when they can have it because I work tomorrow and we are leaving on holidays straight after work tomorrow. So the ultimate question is do i bath them now and then they are inside for the night(but might be slightly damp while sleeping) or do i bath them in the morning but then they have to go outside for the day?

If you do teach bark just make sure you teach a stop word at the same time :p
-
It's a fine line between barking when a visitor arrives abd barking because there is a kangaroo standing on our front porch here so all barking is actively discouraged.
-
Why not just put in a doorbell with the speaker bit sitting on your back porch. :)

I think it's hard to enforce formal training or seminars though for everyone, some great owners would not be able to attend for various reasons. I have two well trained, well adjusted dogs one of which is around, if not over, 25kg. I probably couldn't have attended compulsory training or seminars as my husband is frequently required to work overseas for long periods. Doesn't make me an irresponsible owner. I noted that the Lost Dog's Home has a little online training package that you can do. Once you completed it and passed the little test at the end it entitled you to a discount on your adoption cost. I know not everyone is a fan of the LDH but that seemed like a great move to me

What Organisations Use Puppy Raisers?
kelpiecuddles replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
We are on the south coast but aren't necessarily looking for something now, more likely a few years down the track when our current girls are no long er with us(hopefully not for quite a while!) -
We actually had this happen, stranger broke in to our garage at night and the dogs went crazy barking, never expected them to do that.

Thanks for that, unfortunately it looks like I am too far from Sydney by about 80km for the police program(which may be the same as customs but I'll look in to it)
