How Would You Feel About This Situation?
kelpiecuddles replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
I was only 20 metres away and they were the ones that came to where we were not the other way around, my dog didn't run half way down the beach to get to them(and she never actually made it to them as I called her back). This beach is literally kilometres long with access in multiple places from a number of tracks and carparks. We actually saw them as we were walking down the beach to where we ended up stopping, so essentially they followed us down the beach and dsat down near us. If they were concerned about my dogs why would they come and sit down right next to us? I can't imagine showdog that from what you described of your own dog you would put your dog in that situation? -
How Would You Feel About This Situation?

Never said it wouldn't? I was wondering if others might have had insight into why the other owner may have made the choice to be there when they knew their dog had issues, that's all... -
How Would You Feel About This Situation?

From the behaviour of the other dog I can honestly say that it was being quite aggressive, it literally jumped down a 2 metre high sand dune growling to get to where my dog was approaching(and then it's owner jumped down the sand dune after it and held it's head up and back to stop it from moving any closer). Just made me very glad the girls recalled just as I wanted them to. Sascha wasn't rushing over, just trotted casually over in a very relaxed way, had she been running I wouldn't have realised where she was before the dog got down so i'm glad it was only a few seconds that i was distracted and that she's got such a chilled, polite temperament about other dogs. I would never try to excuse the fact that I didn't see what Sascha was doing, I was rather annoyed with myself afterwards that i hadn't been paying full attention at the time. All i keep thinking was that if the tables were turned and I had a dog with aggresssion issues I'd be too worried about it being potentially put to sleep if it were to attack another dog or a person to take it to places where there was a risk of that sort of interaction. As well as the dogs I had three children under 9 with me and while I realise that dog aggression doesn't equal human aggression if something happened and one of my kids got caught up in the middle of it the consequences could have been huge. -

I do agree with your first statement Aussie, which i said in my post. She didn't make it all the way to the other dog(which was only about 20 metres away) I called her back before she got there. -
A couple of days ago I took my girls to a local leash free beach. The place is kilometres long and was practically deserted apart from a family with their lovely 9 month old am staff who played with my two for a while until they left. We'd been there for a while when a couple of people wandered along the top of the sand dunes with their malamute on lead and sat down quite close to us. A moment of distraction a few minutes later when one of my kids asked me a question and Sascha trotted over to say hello. Next thing the dog, which was one a long lead, leapt down the sand dune and tried to grab her, one of the owners actually had to leap down the dune and grab the dog around the neck. Of course it only took a moment for me to realise and call Sascha back, thankfully her recall is good. What i don't quite understand is why they would sit so close to us if their dog was not good with others. It was clear that the guy knew what to expect by the look on his face and his speed in leaping down to grab the dog so I don't feel like this was an isolated incident. I keep thinking that maybe they were trying to expose it to other dogs but if I was doing that I wouldn't risk having it on a long lead or for that matter in an offlead area and I'd probably muzzle it to be safe, they had no idea whether my dogs' recall was any good. For the record, I do partially blame myself for losing track of her in that moment but it still seems all too risky to me, if the situation were reversed I'd be worried about my dog biting another and ending up with a dangerous dog declaration.

Impounded Bull Breed Put Down Before Breed Assessment In Nsw
kelpiecuddles replied to BlackJaq's topic in In The News
Wow what a mess! I am sad for the dog but to be honest i have no sympathy for the owners. It's a shame that the dog was classified as it was or it might have found a nice home where it was appreciated. -
I read up on Rosie a while back. As I understand it her joints are fused so she kind of pushes herself along. The person who cares for her I believe specialises in rescue for animals with deformities and things of that nature. I would question her quality of life but according to the carer she behaves in certain ways when she is unhappy, etc so the carer is aware of her ups and downs.

I just adjust food to suit the way they look. Currently I want a little bit more weight on the basset and a little bit less on the kelpie. Personally I look at my kelpie at the moment and think she's a bit tubby but she is a LONG way from what the average person on the street would call fat, I like to be able to see her last rib and at the moment I can't. It's my fault as I've got a new job and the weather has been all over the place so she hasn't been getting out as much as usual.

That's OK, I'm not good at embroidery so wasn't suggesting me, just saying it should be easy enough. :)

Kirst I make coats, I would say they would be easy enough to make, you'd just need to find someone who is good with their embroidery machine.

It does probably fit well withb our other basset's name(Josephine)

I have fed a range of foods in the past and currently they get Coprice working dog plus whatever healthy leftovers are on hand. They seem to do just as well on that as they do on the higher end foods and we frequently get comments regarding how lovely and shiny abd soft their coats are. Experience tells me they do awful on Supercoat and the really cheap supermarket foods(no surprise there though) but this seems to suit them fine, if it didn't I'd feed something else. Added to that they get raw meaty stuff, a raw egg occasionally and sometimes whole fish if I have leftovers from fishing.

We have a caravan for a week and four of those days will be spent travelling from Melbourne back home just south of Nowra. I'm thinking of spending a couple of nights in one place and then moving further on. Maybe Cape Conran and then either Eden or Narooma. Can anyone give any pointers for good things to do around these areas with or without dogs that will keep my busy kids occupied. We'll take the dogs most places with us but if we want to do a walk in one of the national parks they'll stay in the van quite happily. Any suggestions for places to stay? Cape Conran has dog friendly caravan sites and two other options i have found are Eden caravan park and Mystery Bay camp ground, feedback or alternative suggestions greatly appreciated.

Unless you implicitly trust everyone in that chain then you can't. I used to quarantine birds for 4 weeks in cages in an unused bathroom which worked well for me. In the case of dogs I'd be looking to use a laundry that opens on to a concrete paved house side which is enclosed with olorbond fence at both ends(preferably with a second stand off fence at the backyard end as well) It's still not what I consider perfect but it's the closest most people in a home situation could get.

I have 2 dogs, oneis nine years(kelpie) and the other 5 years(basset hound) and they play together all day long. They are always together as it's very unusual for us to take only one dog anywhere but they aren't bored of each other yet!

Funnily enough all the pics I have seen of her give that impresion. Angelica romping in the sea foam, Angelica lazing on the patio with her basset friends, Angelica looking adoringly into her handlers eyes at a show....

Little while yet until she's officially a new addition. Have to first make sure she gets along with my mob, then we have to wait for her sister in the picture to have her next litter(which she isn't even pregnant with yet), then if all goes to plan she'll be our new addition... In the meantime it's like waiting for a new puppy!

Are Adoptions Seasonal?
kelpiecuddles replied to Alkhe's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I'd say it would be seasonal. Spring and Summer make people want to be out enjoying the outdoors and thought then stray to having a companion to enjoy the outdoors with. -
Oh now i wish i'd watched it! There's a life size cut out of him sitting right in the entrance to the store and I ran into it like 30 times today, by the time I got home I couldn't face watching him on TV LOL. regretting it now though...

Trisven you may have come across her or her sister Velvet in the pic at shows(Angelica only shows in neuter now but velvet is entire), she is a Wellingtess girl.
