  1. Stand behind him and when he is not looking do something completely unexpected like bang a pot hard with a metal spoon or ring a loud bell if you have one. A persons voice he may have learnt to ignore but a totally unusual sound is more likely to get his attantion if he's not deaf.
  2. While it would be better for him to get private rescue at least at the pound he would be desexed and a nice looking, friendly dog like him stands a good chance of being adopted. Better that then being picked up by sone yobbo looking for an entire dog to breed who's only out for the money from puppies.
  3. Oh that's sad My mum's dog passed away last year and her labrador walking companion passed away only a week later, we reckon she just couldn't go on without her best friend
  4. Anne you can get them from Bunnings, we have one of their cheaper branded ones Ozito or whatever it is and it works really well.
  5. I am impressed you can get all the shampoo out with a camp shower, I find I need a bit of pressure to get the suds out of my girls coats.
  6. Yeah I didn't quite get that either? It almost sounds like she is complaining about having paid more for a combination surgery requiring a ceasar and extraction of a foreign object from the bitch compared to a simple emergency caesar compared to a simple planned caesar. t's not rocket science that those three would have very different costs associated with them.
  7. Pleas real estate costs of course, it's not rocket science that vet operating in areas where property is expensive to buy or lease will have higher outgoings than those in cheaper areas. Some machines used in vet cliniscs are incredibly expensive too
  8. I'm glad Felix found a home, hopefully this one suits him better than the others. Makes me wish I didn't have to worry about what my husband thought. A crestie was always on my list of 'one day' dogs but a kelpie and a basset plus another basset on the way and I suspect I'd have to organise my divorce first LOL
  9. LOL, exactly what I was thinking, but you wrote it so much more concisely than I would have Minimax.
  10. Exactly what showdog said. I have a kelpie which many people would consider to be a very active dog, and she is, BUT I would see a labrador or a beagle as being too much work for me. Whereas other people are happy with their lab and would never consider a kelpie for the same reason.
  11. Poor baby I feel bad if I can see that they are overdue by a couple of millimetres, i can't imagine anyone leaving their poor dog to get like that(and that's just the nail, let alone the fur).
  12. I'm pretty sure it was 15 amp actually. Maybe it's a location issue though, to do with inadequate infrastructure in our neck of the woods(and a useless council that just patches issues rather than fixing them properly). We were told we have to get permission to get power on our home site right on the highway and that it might cost us a bundle if there is not sufficient available.
  13. Pretty sure you have to get council permission and stuff for a higher amp power point, there's a restaurant near us that's been boarded up and never opened because the council didn't approve their application for one to run their ovens!
  14. I'm looking forward to the one in Nowra(berry actually) as my girl will most likely be shown there so I'll be able to see her in action.
  15. In that case I'd be just getting a tap installed outside. I'm lazy, I stick both the dogs in the shower under my feet and scrub them in there and then make them stand on a towel in the bathroom while I dry them LOL. They aren't little so it's lucky our shower isn't tiny!
  16. If the aerator on the end of your laundry tap unscrews you can buy a fitting from Bunnings for about $16 that allows a garden hose to attach to your tap :)
  17. Thanks guys :) I just want to go and do a bit of watching before I start myself, got about 8 months before we are hopefully getting our new girl so I figure I'll see how it's done in the meantime :)
  18. Have you considered getting a slightly older dog 8-12 months old. At that age you'll more easily be able to tell how settled they are. For example my kelpie would be perfect for you but there are a lot of other kelpies out there that would be completely unsuitable.
  19. I want to go to a few shows as an observer this year but I am in a regional area so attending most shows will require quite a bit of travel. Just wondering if there is anywhere I can find out who will be attending or even just the number of dogs of a particular breed attending or do I have to just take my chances? If we were talking something quite common I would be happy to take my chances but bassets aren't a super common breed.
  20. That's hard. I'm not up with which would be best for their liver function but one option other than Advantix(or frontline) would be to make up permoxin as a spray and mist her with it before you go walking. My dog reacts badly to Advantix so we have used frontline spray on her but I'm considering trying the permoxin this summer. Haha, snap! :)
  21. It might be worth talking to your vet, sometimes the roof of their mouth can be longer than it should be. Usually more of a problem in short nosed breeds like pugs and cavs but given that yours is a cross with a staffy which are quite short nosed it might be worth checking.
  22. The breed subforum hasn't been used in 2 years LOL. I'm doing a bit of googling now.
  23. Thanks Jules :) Being a fairly uncommon breed there aren't too many people to ask for opinions LOL
  24. No she's very lean, hard to keep weight on actually!
  25. Page 22 is interesting. I know in theory desexing doesn't change a dogs personality but there is a big difference between the stats for desexed versus undesexed dogs involved in attacks. Of course mnuch of this could be attributed to irresponsible owners as well.
