Danois I thought it was pretty clear that I was only posting it because I found it to be ridiculous, not because I believed it, think everyone else got that -
Common Ingredients In Dog Food...
kelpiecuddles replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
Tell me about it! No better way to ensure I won't buy from someone than have something like this on your website! I'm not daft, I do know the lower quality meat and bone goes in to pet food but this person takes is a little far LOL -
According to an information sheet I found online tonight(on a website that only sells certain very select brands of dog food) these are very common ingredients in dog food: Spoiled rotten meat from the supermarket, styrofoam wrap and all. Road kill that can’t be buried on the roadside. The “4-D’s” of cattle; dead, dying, diseased and disabled Rancid restaurant grease Euthanized pets Charming... Anyone else found anything 'nice' recently?

Apologies, I may have misinterpreted the info provided by Steve. I think this is the issue, the general public seems to hold the opinion of breeders that they are amazing people who can magically provide the perfect dog who will never have any health issues. It probably comes down to the fact that when we tell people why ethical breeders who health test are a better option than BYBs we do tend to make a bit more of the fact that health testing means dogs are less prone to issues, etc. I think the issue there is that Joe Public just hears what they want to hear which is that if they spend the extra for a pup from tested parents, etc they will get their perfect pup and never have any issues. I really do think that a lot of people need things explicitly spelled out for them. When pet shops sell an animal like a pup they make the buyer sign a guarantee that details exactly what they are liable for by law and I think maybe this is what is needed for breeders as well.

I am not saying that they should be completely absolved of responsibility, but that the general public seems to of the belief that breeders have more legal responsibilities than they actually do. Realistically if someone comes up to you with their 12 month old dog and tells you is has LP or HD then as a breeder you would be fully within your right to request that they provide testing that proves that their particular dogs condition has a genetic basis, if it does then fair enough you refund the money but you aren't obliged to pay for anything just because a puppy purchaser or a random vet 'thinks' it's a genetic issue. Breeders rights are exactly the same as those of pet stores, once the puppy buyer walks out of the store and gets past those first few days then it's only the sellers problem is it can be provably linked back to before the point of sale. Making this clear to buyers so that they understand that if they feed their dog poorly or it is injured and develops an issue as a result that may have a genetic component but may also be caused by environmental factors it's not automatically the breeders 'fault'.

My dog taught me that basset hound noses are more than capable of detecting from the other side of the bed that there is a full container of fish food on my bed head and that it's not in my best interests to leave it there...

According to the information provided by Steve as I understand it unless the condition is traceable(and therefore a genetic link is PROVEN) and the animal dies or is euthinased as a result you don't have to do anything. Good will states that you may choose to refund the purchase price. Personally I think the number of people assuming that it's OK to come back to breeders many months or even years later expecting enormous amounts of money for things that may only have a tenuous genetic link is ridiculous, I think it may be getting to the point that breeders need to offer a similar guarantee to what pet shops currently offer that basically absolves them of responsibility after a certain time frame, my seem harsh but people seem to be getting more and more 'entitled' every year

Agree with Cala, it does look quite different to the rest of his nose, better to be safe than sorry

Will she chase a toy or ball? When I couldn't walk my kelpie due to health issues I'd sit in a chair in the backyard and throw the ball for her until she was exhausted LOL -

Always dachshunds, never bassets. The amount of dachshund stuff everywhere at the moment is ridiculous, stationary, clothing, etc, all I ask for is something funky with bassets LOL -
Beautiful photos JB, she truly was s stunner. I just realised I knew you over in EB world too, I'm glad to see you have the guys over there at your back as well as all the wonderful peeps here too.

Surely these things would already be in the code of practice! I work in a pet store which has a store in the ACT and I'm pretty shocked that this wasn't a requirement already, I've been telling kids for the past 15 years that we aren't allowed to sell animals to anyone under 16 without their parent present LOL ETA: Just to clarify I wouldn't ever sell a fluffy or feathered pet to someone under 18, but won't even sell a fish to someone who is obviously under 16.

Pizza and movie tickets! Maybe I should fill it out just for the hell of it LOL -
Welcome Jingo! He has 'old soul' eyes, looks like he's been here before. He'll never replace Tippy but he'll help you heal and move forward, enjoy your new baby.
-
If she has settled and doesn't seem hurt I'd just watch her closely for a while but that's only my personal opinion of what I would do, if you aren't confident making that decision then a vet visit is in order.
-
Peronsally I sit down, hug my dog and look in to their eyes for a while, for me things become clear when I can see whether their eyes are pained

Science diet has a 'pet nutrition training program' that they push on vets and pet stores that sell their product, they tried to push it on me but I just took the book and never returned it to them :p Go with what works well for your dogs and find a vet who can appreciate that messing with the foods that your dogs are doing well on isn't a smart move! -
Nsw Bushfires - For Newbie Members!
kelpiecuddles replied to Brandiandwe's topic in General Dog Discussion
Found out today that a friend of my workmate last her house and her four beloved devon rex cats in the fires She was away when the fires started and couldn't get back and as she'd only moved in recently the neighbours wouldn't have been aware she had the animals there or thought to try to get them out
