  1. There's a large stockfeed type place on the highway down towards Hastings that was pretty reasonable last time I was down that way.
  2. Glad they are keeping lifetime registration. I've lived in places with yearly rego and there are so many animals that are simply not registered at all because people don't want to have to pay every year.
  3. You need to tell the men in the house to suck it up. This is your chance to raise your pup right from the start and stuffing it up now because the blokes were being whingey is only going to make things harder down the track. 3-4 days and you should have the howling back under control, very time you give in you are taking the process right back to the start and making it worse again.
  4. You mention that she howls and barks in the crate. What do you do if she howls/barks? If you are going to her every time she carries on in the crate then she is simply learning that to be let out she should bark, she's training YOU!
  5. Most brindles I have seen have a bit of a half and half thing going on. Because the body has a central line of symmetry the markings of brindles don't extend across the central line.
  6. Ah right, I was under the impression that they were keeping the dog on a line while outside the house. In that case I retract my recommendation of a basset.
  7. Yep, he only went to base camp and this ladies previous dog went all sorts of amazing places with her also so I'd say she'd be pretty used to taking care of her dog in less than ideal conditions.
  8. Something happened to Sascha's nose a few days ago, not exactly sure what but I came home and she had a raised sore spot on her nose which hadn't been there that morning. She also had something on her nose that looked a bit like white paint(the kids had been painting outside so it may have been), I think she has got it on her face and then started licking at it to get it off and the constant licking has caused a hot spot. I washed her nose and it started to look less angry but now she is licking at it constantly again, sticking her tongue up and over her nose which makes it pretty hard to stop! I'd like to put something on it to try to settle it down and give it a chance to heal but not sure what I can do when she won't stop licking, wondering if anyone has any suggestions?
  9. LOL, I was thinking the same thing but didn't want to be the one to say it  I never get harassed by my lot when i'm sleeping because they are happily asleep in their fenced off area.
  10. devil, never! Actually Josie was a great pup, bassets aren't massively high energy even as puppies compared to the other breeds I've had so as long as she was kept reasonably occupied she was a great pup to raise, certainly easier than my other dogs have been. The only thing harder about them is they can be tough to toilet train and they are fairly stubborn.
  11. As long as they were planning to keep it always on a long line when out walking anyway a basset might be a good fit. They are very relaxed, go with the flow dogs and mine is happy to travel and will chill out with anyone who's happy to be leant on. They don't need to be 'run' to keep fit like my kelpie does, a good walk at your pace and they are happy to relax next to the fire the rest of the time. Although she is officially a large breed she doesn't feel like it because she is shorter than my kelpie
  12. Here for a short time only, I'm trying to convince my husband that we need that one in the little pile that is all white with tan ears and blaze :D
  13. If she's been playing with the other dogs and got some scratches on her face the new hair growing may have come through white, more like the timing is a coincidence I would think.
  14. They are lemon and white which I'll admit isn't my favourite hound colour but I'll forgive them their colour given their cuteness :p It's probably a blessing, if they were tricolour I think I'd be a goner!
  15. Just want to say that basset hound puppies are the cutest things on the face of the planet! A local breeder acquaintance of mine has just had a litter of 8 babies born yesterday/today and they are soooo cute! I've only seen photos via facebook(and I probably shouldn't share them here since I don't have permission) but I'm hoping so much that I get a chance for puppy cuddles before they go to new homes! Makes it very hard to stick to my resolve of no more puppies for now...
  16. Personally I would plan a lovely weekend with him, get the stronger pain relief so we could enjoy our last bit of time together and then set him free. Just my personal feelings though, be kind to yourself and go with what your heart is saying.
  17. There are a couple in Wagga that might suit, going to call them tomorrow
  18. Glue sticks are water based so as long as it was only a small amount it should just disperse and not give her any real trouble. She might get a belly ache but I'd honestly be surprised if even that happened.
  19. They are designed to be used and potentially consumed by children so a tiny bit shouldn't matter
  20. It's a 40minute drive from here to my preferred off lead beach. I'd like to go there once a week but it usually runs out to once every couple of weeks.
  21. I had the strongest feeling there was somewhere at Holbrook, sure I've seen the sign on the way past. Holbrook is a great distance for me as it's half way so I'll give them a call and see whether they have any availability.
  22. I know I can camp at Jugiong but as it will only be me and the dogs I thought it might be nice to stay somewhere for the night. It will be right before Christmas, dogs are easy going and can sleep indoors or out in either a run or in the back of the car. I don't mind camping but would also happily pay for a cabin or similar. Anyone stayed somewhere that may suit? Probably anywhere between Yass and Albury areas.
  23. These are not grains, they are seeds. Grains come from grass type plants, seeds come from dicots(herbaceous/shrubby type plants)
  24. Like most foods it seems to suit some dogs well and others not so much. The food that is best for your dog is the one your dog does best on, try it, if it doesn't suit use something else. I'm about to trial it for my next bag of food and haven't heard anything about a recent quality drop.
