Have to say I love that they think that the world is going to be in a frenzy over a greyhound that may have got up the duff to a dalmation by accident to the same extent as a murder committed by a well known sportsperson. :D

Yes might be fine if it's a mature dog that's got a good off switch. I'd be preparing for the possibility of having to make the decision that the dog isn't a good fit though

My friend has a tenty. They are pretty busy, full on little dogs who needd a reasonable amount of exercise from what I've seen. She'd want to be a pretty spritely elderly lady.

Less dropped pills but plenty of other hazards to worry about, lots of canulas, catheters, interesting smelling bins with all sort of blood, etc products in them. At least pills don't smell interesting! LOL

Flippy my (not greyhound) dog visits the Nowra private hospital. I've always got my eye on where josie's nose is, especially being a scent hound. I think it comes down to supervision, we are working on training Josie to keep her nose up during visits.

My only thought is that some of those parts look fairly small, I'm not sure i would trust my dog not to simply swallow a little bit that smelt like bacon if it came apart

Any chance you know someone who is a clever sewer who could but an extra strap on it for you? A little wider and slightly further forward. If you were able to get the same size clip you could cross the straps diagonally so it then sits slightly further foward in the middle of the belly but still has the back strap

Does that breeder still have them? I looked at their webpage but seem to only have ridgebacks on there...

I read your post in the pap thread. It sounds like your girl was sold to you as a pet, in which case it's likely that her breeder felt that while she was of course perfectly healthy she may not have been suited to a show/breeding home. The best advise is to go back and talk to her breeder as they will be able to assess her suitability and how well she fits the breed standard. There's no point breeding her just because puppies are cute or you'd like a litter, it does nothing for her healh wise and there are a lot of risks(yes, she could die ). Apart from that it's detrimental to the breed if people breed dogs just for the sake of it without a proper understanding of the health testing and suitability of mates, etc, etc.

My dog has a neurological reaction to Advantix and can't use it but I would think that as others have said your dog wouldn't have absorbed much if he threw up. Personally if he is currently flea free I would not put anything at all on him in the way of flea/worming treatments, looking for potential problems around the garden and seeing a new vet. Basically detox him completely, test for possible issues such as thyroid and then work from there only adding back one thing at a time as an elimination process. A good vet should be able to guide you through identifying the cause.

Yes I guess only ethics in that case. My girl is mains registered and a breeder I hope to get a pup from in the future asked if I might breed her(pretty sure he was testing me actually since he seems pretty happy with my response ;) ) but I told him I don't think she is up to standard enough to consider breeding from her even if she wasn't desexed (which he didn't know when he asked). But in reality there isn't anything stopping you which I guess is where it comes down to good breeders choosing the animals that best suit their plans and the available mate/s and not breeding from anything that doesn't measure up.

Not so much lately but a while back I used to have an aviary in my backyard that housed a group of quail. Walking down the hallway I looked up and could see the aviary door was open through the back window and my heart sank thinking the quail were surely torn apart by the dogs. Raced outside and sascha was sleeping in her bed and dashed around the back to find Josie lying in the middle of the lawn wagging her tail with 10 quail lying all over the grass in a circle around her...sunning themselves with their wings outstretched and looking very chilled. Josie was very proud of the little flock of quails she got to guard :D

By the same there's nothing stopping anyone from breeding a dog on limited either(obviously pups can't be registered though). In the long run it all comes down to the ethics of the owner. A good breeder won't breed a dog just because it's on mains, they'll assess how it compliments their breeding plans.

Otherwise you might find it's simply a matter of putting your name down with your preferred breeder/s and being patient. I've been waiting 18 months for my next planned puppy and expecting to wait anywhere up to another 5 months or more. Breeders are listed here. If you have a dog show near you I recommend going along and having a look and once the showing is done politely approach a few breeders for a chat and to get a feel for them. My dogs don't steal socks. But the cat does, she carries them around the house making little meowing noises. I haven't quite worked out whether it's a hunting behaviour or a nesting type behaviour(she is desexed) but I found a stockpile of them in one corner not long ago. :laugh:
