  1. How often does that page get updated? From what I can see on their DOL info the breeder only moved to the country in 2008 and registered their prefix after that(which is after that page was created) so it's possible the name has simply missed out on inclusion.
  2. If the pup was at your house at all though then Parvo could still be there. An awful disease
  3. Sascha would probably be Monica out of Friends, a little bit OCD and everything in it's right place and always quick with a sarcastic wise crack when it's due
  4. Josie would sound like the little loony toons(?) dog that runs around the boss dogs legs, "Can we boss, can, we, can we?"
  5. Poor baby, run free little one Contsak please be very careful when you decide you are ready to give another baby a home, Parvo is horrid and can hang around in soil, etc for a very long time and could affect a future pup
  6. If you rub it with a bit of damp tissue does it leave a browny red stain on the tissue? If it does it's flea dirt and I would look at switching treatments
  7. I found quite a good run down on Akita weight, it does emphasis that their weight gain will vary but gives you an idea of what to expect. It also says that from about 36kg their weight gain slows and they won't reach their full size until age 3. http://www.akita-dog.com/Akita_Weight.html
  8. There are often a lot of costs associated with rescuing a dog, they are often not desexed and have a sketchy or unknown vaccination and worming history, they may have been not well cared for and need dental work or other treatment, then of course the costs of feeding and housing them and the costs associated with transporting dogs from the pound to the rescuer and then to the new owner.
  9. I agree Simply Grand. My daughter was bitten a while back but someone's SWF that he had on lead outside our local supermarket(literally right on the doorway so you had to walk within a few inches of it). She did everything right, asked the owner, approached the dog calmly for a sniff, the dog looked relaxed and happy and she went to give it a little pat on the shoulder blade and it snapped and bit her. No indication from either the dog or the owner that this was a likely scenario but the guy didn't seem overly concerned and just wandered off while I cuddled my crying child. Luckily my daughter is the resilient type(she's also been bitten accidentally by a python and been at the receiving end of bites from parrots when she hasn't heeded a warning to watch her fingers!) We talk a lot about animal behaviour and I take great pains to point out to them how our animals are behaving if they have had enough of whatever interaction is taking place so they can begin to see those cues for themselves with less of my guidance as they get older. In this case we discussed the reasons this little dog may have snapped at her and while they were purely hypothetical reasons hopefully it stands her in good stead to respect the space of other dogs and it was certainly a fast way to learn the reasons that you don't just approach strange dogs when their owners aren't around. Sadly this guy clearly had no clue about the reality of his dog and it's propensity to lash out for whatever reason, hopefully next time he'll stand further away from access to shops and decline requests for pats.
  10. There are so many costs to being a rescuer outside of vet bills. I wouldn't have a problem with the rescuers dogs being on the same account, they are still buying food, treats, bedding, non-vet supplements and medications(flea control, shampoo, etc). If the rescuers dog being on the account offsets those costs so the rescuer can buy all the other necessities then that's A-OK by me...
  11. Maybe having trouble due to spelling. Here's their DOL listing :) http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/member.asp?name=BULLACKTIV
  12. Just tell him she's a greyhound who is a training companion for your racing whippets, surely it's not necessary to specify that she's an ITALIAN greyhound :p "Oh I'm sorry, I thought you heard me say IG, well now that we are here anyway..." LOL
  13. Oh we might head up and check it out. What time are things kicking off? Might just bring Josie with me as Sascha is getting a little over crowds in her old age whereas Josie loves it :p If anyone sees me with my basset girl and looking stressed out with 3 kiddies in tow come and say hi :) (My real name is Erin(cos it's really weird having to walk up to people and call them a made up online name  )
  14. That doesn't surprise me at all Dezzy, I think a lot of the time Josie relies on her nose rather than her sight, she's a master at finding hidden food items that can't be seen only smelt. :p
  15. What about using a really fine show/ puppy lead around the yard so that she can't feel the weight of the clips, etc
  16. Yep! My 9 year old is nagging me for his own dog to show LOL I strongly suspect that my daughter will be the next one to start up on that, maybe they'll have to take turns!
  17. My neighbours have a goat and the foxes are scared as hell of him!
  18. I've seen a dingo heard sheep and in the same session there was my lab/boxer/mastiff mix and all sorts of others. I reckon if a dingo can herd any things worth a try! Nothing ventured, nothing gained. :)
  19. She gets very irritable and snappy, I suspect it makes her skin feel awful as she'll snap at the other dog if she tries to play.
  20. Thanks Jed, not many options around here unfortunately and very hard to get her to someone in a major city when I'm on my own with three small kids I'll try though.
  21. My kelpie doesn't do well with Advantix but my basset is fine. I've been misting them with Permoxin in a spray bottle before we go for our walks ETA: Just so you are aware, Permoxin is permethrin which is one of the ingredients in Advantix. I have found that she seems fine with this on it's own so either it was the combination of all of the ingredients or it was one of the others that caused her trouble. In your case it could be the permethrin so if you wanted to try Permoxin I would suggest speaking to your vet and treading carefully until you were confident that it was OK.
  22. If you are on facebook can I suggest joining a couple of your local buy and sell type pages and posting a message saying you have found a dog, don't show a pic or give away all the details so that people will have to identify her so you know they really are her owners of they come forward
  23. I've recently switched both mine to Blackhawk. My basset hound had a bath yesterday and her coat is so shiny I could practically see my reflection in it, never seen them looking so healthy.
