Question About Film Make Up For A Dog!
kelpiecuddles replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
That's what I was thinking LG, I have a fire pit down at the property where I burn off some times so I'm going to get some from there. -
Bassets are very rare in rescue but I think mainly because they are very uncommon in general, they turn up occasionally in pounds but not commonly and they are usually snapped up very quickly because they are unusual, does worry me though that there's every chance they are being adopted so quickly because they are unusual without people factoring in whether they are actually a good fit for them, I could see a basset being a nightmare in the wrong hands.
-
I've seen friends sibes 'talk' it's not unusual for some breeds to make whiny type noises, my basset 'talks' a lot if she's being asked to do something and she's not in the mood or if she's particularly excited.
-
Just an idea but is it possible to get in touch with his breeder and see if the breeder has been chatting to any of the other owners of pups from that litter and can compare weights. Given he's going to come in at a weight somewhere in the vicinity of 35-40kg it doesn't seem like an unreasonable weight to me.
-
I wouldn't have though 22kg was massive for a dobe puppy of that age.
-
I wasn't saying it was OK, people were looking for possible reasons so I suggested a couple, if that was my 9 year old I'd have driven my dogs to the vet myself and held them(and probably sobbed in their fur) while they were PTS, I wouldn't ever be able to feel safe around them again I just wish people would think, I don't let strange kids who my dogs aren't used to play with my dogs when I'm not there(well I don't let my own either but I mean with a different adults supervision who isn't familiar with my dogs behaviour), I like to be able to watch the interactions and nip any issues in the bud before they become real problems.

Question About Film Make Up For A Dog!
kelpiecuddles replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
Oo thanks Piper, I was trying to work out the best way to get it to stick, might make up a little box of bits to take with us if we get the go ahead and we'll be there a couple of hours before start time so they can work out what they want -
Question About Film Make Up For A Dog!
kelpiecuddles replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
If they are after dirty/muddy I'll get some of the clay dirt from down at our property and do that the night before so it dries in and has a chance to flake and look old, if it's dark industrial type grotty then do you guys reckon if I went and found some coal from someones campfire and rubbed it in to her a bit it would be OK for her? -
And the dogs owner wasn't there and the boy didn't usually live with the dogs.

Question About Film Make Up For A Dog!

If it wasn't for the gigantic red belly that I know lives there I'd send her in the dam and then try and get her to have a roll LOL. I'll wait to hear exactly how they want her to look and go from there. it might need to be more dark coloured grot like she'd get from hanging around a dirty industrial area, in that case I probably am going to need a 'make up' option. Maybe I could rub crushed charcoal in to her? -
Question About Film Make Up For A Dog!

It's a no budget thing so I'm going to need to take something suitable. Thinking maybe a run in the bush the day before but everything is so dry here at the moment! -
It's not set yet until they confirm that she's what they want but there is a possibility my kelpie will be getting her film debut next week :) Nothing to reveal yet(promise I will if they say she's good for the job) but I need to get some ideas because I may need to 'dress her down' and make her look a bit scruffy/unkempt as though she has been trekking about in a really grotty area and not washed too often. Short of actually finding some mud and rolling her in it does anyone have any tips as far as what I can use that's safe on her? Could I safely use something like human grade eyeshadow type powder to get some dark dirty areas on to her if needed? I probably don't have time to order supplies online so it would need to be things I can source locally(and I'm in a regional area so only mainstream type shops here)

I'm inclined to think that whether the pups belonging to a whole bunch of people of a board dedicated to dogs manage their dogs around whatever other commitments they have isn't really indicative of the population as a whole. If you are on this site then chances are you are the type of person who will go to extra lengths for your dog, whether you are here because you are solving a problem that you already have or because you are trying to prevent issues or simply because you are involved in the world of dogs in some way and you love it. The ratio of people who would go to the extra lengths to cater for a puppies needs against those who would just stick them in the yard for ten hours straight is a lot higher on this board than it is in the general population. While I'm not going to say it wasn't maybe stated in a way that might have put a few off side I don't think anyone can really argue with the essence of what Jed is saying which is that she doesn't wish to sell to someone who is just going to stick the pup on it's own for a long day. If you are juggling shifts to make it work to start with that's not you, if you took time off work that's not you and if you have your friend/neighbour/relative coming to play with puppy and ensure he gets out to the loo then that's not you.

OK so i'll preface this by saying that I am generally speaking opposed to using lots of chemicals in my house, I basically don't use anything that requires me to wear rubber gloves BUT these flies are driving me insane. No matter how well the house is kept closed they get in, any time one of the kids goes through the door mainly I suspect. Problems are threefold, firstly they are simply driving me insane flying on my face, etc, second they land on food when we are trying to cook and eat - I'm a bushwalker from way back and I don't object to them then but that's their habitat this is MINE!, lastly they are leaving little fly poos all over my walls and ceiling which is not only gross but is going to take me a lot of time to clean up. So it's go to the point I'm now considering one of those auto units that you put on the wall to go in the main living area of the house(which is also where the door that they mostly come in via is and where they mostly hang out), so I'm wondering whether anyone has used one and whether they actually work? As it is I'm spraying flyspray around a couple of times a day to get rid of them anyway but as soon as it disperses more come in the next time the door opens.

My mum is bayside so I'm sure she's appreciating it at her place. Hopefully it give your houses a chance to cool down properly overnight rather than holding too much of todays heat in to tomorrow
-
Still supposed to be hot for the rest of the week for you guys but hopefully it clears the air and makes it a little cooler for you tonight

It is a very interesting looking band of rain, you can follow it here spotted devil :) http://www.weatherzone.com.au/radar/vic/melbourne/128km

Preparing For Next Weeks Severe To Extreme Heat...
kelpiecuddles replied to westiemum's topic in General Dog Discussion
Great news Westiemum, enjoy your cool nights sleep. Have to say those extreme summer heatwaves are one thing I don't miss about Melbourne at all! It's only hit around 35 here this week, I'm feeling lucky although as we don't have aircon at work and I work in a big tin oven shed I am thinking I'll take a spare workshirt with me tomorrow to throw on at lunch time to help me feel a little bit refreshed. -
A Hypothetical Question For Breeders
kelpiecuddles replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
Ah that would explain it then, she did used to get a few scrapes on her ears from claws as a pup, but definitely not an issue for a basset bashing through the bush, in fact the loose skin on a basset is by design, they should have enough loose skin that in the even of being poked by something like a stick the skin should roll around and off the stick rather than puncturing :) I remember as a very small pup she'd go flat on her face frequently due to stepping on her ears LOL -
A Hypothetical Question For Breeders
kelpiecuddles replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
I don't know if you are still checking in with this thread minimax but if you are and you read this, I've been thinking about your park basset and wondered how old it is? Josie used to step on her ears commonly as a puppy/youngster but as an adult it's not something she does as her ears simply don't reach that far, otherwise I wonder whether the one you see has especially long ears :p -
A Hypothetical Question For Breeders
kelpiecuddles replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
True and I guess having no disqualifying lower height could make things interesting too. I'd still be aiming for 14 inches regardless, seems like dicing with disaster favouring animals right on the cusp of being at a disqualifying height. (ETA: Because someone is sure to pick holes - I mean consistently breeding larger dogs I don't mean avoiding an amazing and totally worth using dog at the upper end of the height range)
