  1. Not a dog but I had an elderly cat who had a series of strokes toward the end of her life. Over the course of 4 years she had five but always began to recover within around 24 hours and mostly back to normal after around a week. We did eventually have her euthed after that fifth one but she was nearly 22 years old so it wasn't really a surprise that she didn't bounce back so well after that one.
  2. We have a massive tick issue here and use only permoxin in on one if my dogs as she has a bad reaction to advantix and I don't like to use collars. I keep it in a spray bottle and mist her every few days mostly her underside and have never had a tick on her.
  3. If you've gone straight from wet to dry I would suggest mixing a bit of her wet food through it
  4. I think to some extent it depends on the breed too. If you look at something like labradors or staffies that are dime a dozen backyard bred people seem to see a difference between pet dogs and show dogs but when I'm out and about with my basset who is 'only' a pet people always assume she came from a good breeder as she seems like 'that kind of breed'.
  5. Yep my girl got a big deep graze right on the top of her nose. It's healed up and pigment is back to normal
  6. So was it at the show? If so that's SO tricking LOL If you'd said it was at the show I would have actually been thinking breed but I went with the 'what's this random crossbreed' insinuation you had going on there
  7. Never thought about it until now but just realised that all three of the breeds we have or are considering having are French origin. Basset hound, bloodhound and papillon
  8. I found a thread on here from about 5 years ago that refered to a vet in the Hills district and also one in West Wollongong that were doing it then. If you haven't already maybe ring around a few vets in those areas. Just for the purposes of info gathering I'd just pretend you are going through the process of getting a council order and if they don't do it themselves ask them to tell you who does. They might be more forthcoming with info then.
  9. It says here in the last paragraph that you can :) Hope your week improves for you https://sbc.smct.org.au/botanical-gardens/
  10. Loved dogs living in houses with their people do learn a lot of human body language, they understand that smiling or laughing means your happy(and therefore might be happy about them and give them a pat!) and in a crowd of people they'd be likely to pick up on people exhibiting those same signs.
  11. When we visit at the hospital Josie has people who she has decided need more of her time. One lady in particular who was very frail and in the palliative unit but that was who Josie picked, she would lay on the bed with her for 10 minutes or more and place her head on her tummy and close her eyes, then when we tried to leave the hospital Josie tried to turn and go back to her room. When we visited the next week Josie made a beeline for her room again. This beautiful woman couldn't speak and could barely move but you could see the sparkle in her eyes when she realised the dog was there for a cuddle.
  12. Bit of both. Blue is a dilute colour and can happen with some matings. But others outside the registered breeder codes would just use a similarly shaped blue dog like a staffy and breed it in that way
  13. Maybe she was the work experience kid
  14. Well first thing I can see is they are marketing Black and Tans and tricolours as rare so that says it all really...
  15. Well I hope they aren't in the market for a puppy because if they've pissed off a bunch of dog people locally and further afield they might have trouble getting one now!
  16. I used to work at a pet supply store in Melbourne that had something similiar. The store didn't sell fluffy critters(fish and a few birds) but did have a groomer and a visiting vet that came for 2-3 hours a day. The clinic only did vaccs, discount chipping, etc, etc. The vet would look at medical issues but the person would be referred to the associated vet clinic if surgery, etc was required. Very successful concept.
  17. Flashsmum she's currently looking for someone to take on a visit once a fortnight if you wanted to start out with a smaller commitment ;)
  18. Or at worst if you are paranoid just shave the outside few mm off it, then pop it in the fridge good as gold :)
  19. For me it depends entirely on the situation. Appropriate warning growl or even a small snap I leave them to it if it's directed at another dog who is behaving inappropriately, especially if it's a young puppy or similiar who needs to learn and isn't likely to respond with an attack, etc. Inappropriate growling at other dogs or at people and it is dealt with by me.
  20. I've eaten cheese that's been that long out of the fridge myself and never had a drama, I work on the theory that if it looks OK, smells OK and the texture hasn't changed it's probably fine :D
  21. I would also watch the way she behaves when she is on the ground around people, as in whether she tends to hang out close but not underfoot or whether she is a get under your feet type and might be a trip worry.
