This is exactly what I had in human form :) I was treated with prednisolone short term and when it became apparent that it was to be an ongoing issue and my platelets were at 9000(that 15 refers to 15,000) and they should be at 150-400,000 for a human they took out my spleen, within 24 hours my platelets were heading for normal again and I've never had an issue since! If the vet feels it's an ongoing issue maybe discuss a splenectomy as an option is considered standard treatment for ongoing ITP in humans.

Yes I do think the leg length throws people, try having a basset! Theoretically they are a large breed, averaging 25-30kg but a lot of places label them a medium breed because of their height

Trick For My Pup
kelpiecuddles replied to apocalypsepwnie's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Actually I found back very easy to train. I did it when feeding dinner. I make their dinner and they are very focused on me and their bowl! Then I take a step towards them and say back and they remain facing me but move backwards a few steps and I then treat with a little something from their bowl. Now I can just say back and they know to move backwards :) -

Can you name one of the local facebook page the post is on so I can share it? I checked Louise's personal page but her settings are up very high(fair enough :) ) and it's not accessible from there to share so I'd love to share it if possible -

I agree with getting it shared everywhere. Both my aunts are heavily involved in sharing rescue and animal welfare type stuff and I'm happy to get something shared to them and I know they'll then share far and wide! -

Maybe share a photo and the general region that the owner lives in here, people in all areas and doggy people tend to notice other dogs and if he ends up out of the area someone might spot him on a completely different non-local FB page. Edited to ad the link to my facebook page where you can pick up the facebook request for help and share it to any places that might be able to help: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100004016017631 -
Didn't see that one, maybe they have a stock photo of a white dog on the mag

The Victorian crappola of how they are defining what a pit bull is. This is the reference Ari.g: http://www.gazette.vic.gov.au/gazette/Gazettes2014/GG2014S022.pdf Exemption on the first page states that if the dog is blue merle or pure white then it's not a pitbull. There's a thread called something like 'the circus goes on' if you want to read more, as I won't take this thread any further OT

In that time they'll get a massive amount of exposure and even if the dogs people are interested in aren't there when they go they may feel more willing to meet other dogs having been through the speed dating process. :)

If that's a pic of the dog on the magazine cover it can't be a pit bull, after all didn't we already ascertain that pit bulls by definition can't be white Sounds to me like a serious case of moron owner raising a bad dog...poor baby

The are they going against nature comment is kind of odd. I mean of you think about it any dog created for human purposes by selective breeding is 'going against nature'. There are only a few breeds that fit the 'created as nature intended' description.

I don't think having the public there is a circus, by coincidence my children just watched a TV show cut up a pigs eye 30 minutes ago to demonstrate the different parts of the eye. They were very interested and amazed at how the lens sat inside the eye and were fully aware that it was part of a real animal. Having an interest in anatomy isn't a bad thing and making the opportunity available for education in between the giraffes death and him being fed out made the most of the opportunity. I for one would have been quite interested to see the unusual vertebrae of a giraffe, I'm not sure if that aspect was shown but it's a part of a giraffes anatomy which is both important and also pretty cool.

I wasn't having a go at you or any others who had that take on it Steve, simply responding to the statement that zoos can't feed whole carcasses. There's great value in feeding whole carcasses to captive carnivores and not just from a nutritional perspective but it's something that generally isn't done. We gave a whole roo to the dingoes once where I worked and had to give it to them at closing and remove it before opening because the idea freaks out the customers. (It was hit by a car and killed, not killed by us)
-
I use to have to skin chicken carcasses to remove the feathers before cutting them up for the crocs at work so that they didn't 'look like chickens' because people get all squeamish if there is the suggestion that a piece of chicken meat may once have been a real, live chicken I'm pretty sure some people do think meat grows in plastic trays with cling wrap over it!

I know of it but I don't think it's nearly as widely publicised as it needs to be. My kelpie could probably benefit from a yellow ribbon(very friendly but gets upset and stresses with kids/dogs in her face but fine with sensible, gentle people and dogs). I'm happy to see there is a website, I might start promoting it on my local pet facebook pages and see if we can get the word out in this area :)

I think I would be making a simple fenced off area for him out of tall aviary mesh right down to the ground and star pickets so that he has a safe area to be outside. Can you maybe make a sideway safe or similar?
-
I think it really depends where you are Perse, where I grew up in Melbourne tiger snakes were quite common, we actually had signs at my work to put out to warn people to stay away if a snake was spotted in the grounds and there were pretty clear guidelines about what was expected of us if we saw a snake at school, etc, someone's little dog died from a snakebite got at my primary school in suburban Melbourne.

I remember the lady at Mogo zoo talking about white lions, as they aren't actually a cross I thought you could still breed white lions and white tigers, I thought the issue was around stamping out hybridisation.
-
How big is your yard and what is stopping you from snake proofing it? It's going to be an issue for the next 15 years or however long your dog lives so it would be better to solve that issue now! I got a 50 metre roll of fine galvanised wire mesh off ebay for about $30 and that did most of my yard by attaching it along the bottom of the fence and digging the bottom edge in to the ground

Wow, no denying that really LOL Definitely a call to the company tomorrow in order, looks like it's fallen out of a bag in to the packing area or something to that affect. I'd be inclined to think there's a reasonable chance that since what's there is completely unprocessed it's very unlikely there would be any in the actual kibble if you desperately needed it to feed out tomorrow.

A PBGV might work well for him. If he was happy with something slightly large(although due to her height she actually feels like a much smaller dog than my kelpie) I would have said a basset. Very cruisy dog to live with once you do that initial training and Josie really is happy to just lie on the grass all day if I'm at work.

They aren't by any chance dried peas? (Sorry might seem obvious just thinking of the only ingredient that it could be that is actually supposed to be in the ingredients :) ) have a pic?
