  1. Personally I'd be surprised if tinned tuna, a bit of cooked chicken and some boiled rice provided adequate balanced nutrition in the long term. Plus the salt level of most tinned tunas is horrendous, which is why cats who eat it lots end up with kidney failure.
  2. Gosh imagine the salt he's getting having tinned tuna every day, doesn't seem like a very balanced diet. Carrot slices I don't see an issue with, my dogs love them!
  3. Snakes will only bite if they feel threatened, if you must walk in riskier areas keep your dog on a short leash, walk in the centre of the path and keep a good eye out in front of you, especially on the edges of the path. I have been known to carry a thin stick, not for the snake but to rap my dog on the nose if she were to go for the snake, might seem mean but I'd rather pop her softly on the nose with a stick to make her jump back than her continue forwards to the snake. If you do see one just stop, stand still, if the snake hasn't seen you then just move very slowly backwards and walk the other way, if it has seen you then as soon as you stop it should settle and then move away of it's own accord.
  4. I agree Snook, I go those places myself during snake season but I leave the dogs behind.
  5. I think it's a stretch to say he saved his mates life, no one has ever died from a snake bite where proper and prompt first aid and transport to hospital has been provided(there are a couple of cases where people have died as a result of snake bites in areas where first aid could not be applied such as on the face). I've always said if anyone gets bitten I'd rather it be me than the dogs, at least it's generally a bite to a limb which is easily strapped. Merri Creek is reasonably accessible.
  6. I am sure that she will be assessed once the rescue has her very soon, the carer is very experienced.
  7. They may not have even been her dogs. Given she's holding a good quality camera and was likely holding it when the biffo started I'd say it's more likely someone else was working the dogs and she was simply taking a few photos when it happened. We also don't know what was happening outside of the photo, for all we know someone else may have been yelling at them to pack it in and heading over there and she got a pic moments before it was broken up...
  8. The owner thought she was due in 2-3 weeks but who knows, she doesn't know when they mated so it's a mystery. I like my dogs lean and always make sure I can see a bit of rib so I would never be trying to make her fat, she is a tad too lean though, even having wolfy in her, you can clearly see all her ribs and then her belly sticking out below them! So I don't think she needs to put much on to be right but just a little, the sort that will naturally go on and stabilise with some good quality food I think.
  9. It's such a shame Saithroth as I'm sure it all seemed like it would be fine given they were already known to you and therefore not complete strangers. Please don't let this shake your faith in people too much, I know 95% of people would go to great pains to ensure they adhered to an agreement they had made and if something came up they would be honest and talk to you about it to try to resolve it. It's such a shame when the minority spoil it for everyone. Maybe in future if you are wanting to help someone out offer to hold the pup for the extra week to allow someone to pay, that way you have the money and the dog if they reneg and you can simply refund them without having to try and get the pup back.
  10. Since I know you are stalking this thread Mary :p Riverstar I hope you don't mind that she has claimed the insert out of that bed, it was in the corner and I put a lovely big doona down for her and then found her sleeping on that LOL. I figured it was for rescue anyway so she counts and I haven't had a chance to drop it up to my friend as I was washing the collars, good thing they only have little dogs at the moment!
  11. I don't think anyone was suggesting she forcibly repossess the dog, simply that she go with the money and OFFER them a refund to buy the pup back if they can no longer afford the dog.
  12. And make sure that whoever you take won't be inclined to jump in to the biff with the guy if he does arc up. If it does come to some sort of action through civil court or anything else you want it to be fact that you behaved impeccably throughout the whole process and only asked politely for what was rightfully yours.
  13. I would suggest that if you do intend to go over there take someone with you, preferably someone not necessarily intimidating but just who's presence might discourage the guy from trying to stand over you at all, only since you mentioned he got rather aggressive on the phone. I would definitely go in being sweet as pie and very polite and try to negotiate in a friendly manner but I wouldn't go alone.
  14. I think that's an old photo, she does look pregnant in real life. This is the message I just sent Ninahartland but I'll paste it here as it pretty much sums things up as I've found them so far :)
  15. I don't worry too much about things like standard stairs but try to avoid jumping from height(so I usually will lift her down from the back of the wagon). Also I keep her lean so as not to place undue pressure on spine and joints.
  16. Good news is that she's here! She's definitely a big girl though!
  17. I thought it was in general, don't know how that happened LOL
  18. I'm not sure how long the lovely rescue girl I'm taking on will be with me before we get her over to Temora. She's coming to me this arvo and I want to ensure she's on the right track health wise while I have her so that I can send her on to Mary in as good condition as possible. :) So the good news is that I am told she is up to date with vaccs and worming, I only have a couple of photos at this stage and I'm not sure how old they are but she may be a tad on the lean side. So I have Blackhawk Puppy dry food here, is this an adequate food to put her on to? I would hazard a guess that her past has consisted of a lot of Pal but I'll be asking them when they drop her off what she's been eating. How much extra do I need to be feeding her given she is pregnant and should I be dividing it up over more smaller meals per day? I just feed my girls by looking at their condition. Any other suggestions for things I should be doing for her? I haven't worked out where she will sleep yet, I'm going to let them guide me on that depending on what she is used to :)
  19. I think dad will be fine. At least here the pound doesn't euth friendly dogs unless they have big health issues or need extended care for some reason. If he's healthy and friendly which it sounds like he is then he should be fine, even if he were to end up at the pound. The dogs at the pound have huge grassed play areas, etc, it's a good pound :) ETA: Just meaning that I think there are dogs who are more in need of rescue assistance than this fellow. Personally I think she'll be able to find him a private rehome anyway :)
  20. This is the only pic that shows dad, doesn't look very big but he's only young
  21. I thought maybe a bit of lab too, she's certainly a pretty girl. Apparently she lays next to the babies cradle and is very devoted, good with kids and other dogs. Owner wasn't sure how she would be with cats and small furries so I'll test that for you here. Dad is tan and white so bodes well for non brindle pups too ;)
