  1. Given it's freeze dried would the fat content % be warped due to the lack of moisture content? Or do you feed it dry?
  2. Now now CG, don't ruin a good thread with your clever reality and stuff!
  3. A lady I know keeps a soft rubber cage type muzzle on hand in case of problems with bitches being too rough with pups, it's only used if absolutely needed but she always has it on hand now after she lost a couple in her first litter due to the bitch pulling too roughly on cords and being mildly aggressive(bull terrier).
  4. I think it must be reasonably common, as a child my cat chased an aggressive dog away from me when it came in to our rear yard when I was out on the swing set. I was on the swing and my cat(russian blue) was sitting next to me, dog came up growling and Nougat turned in to a whirlwind of claws and chased him off! She also chased a neighbourhood cat away from our 3 week old chickens once and then came back to make sure they were ok LOL She was a seriously weird cat.
  5. Yes, I'm glad I started this thread because it made me sit down and think, IF things weren't going how I hoped, how would I sort it out. I'm now feeling quite confident in how I would divide up the dogs if needed which is probably not a bad thing anyway when adding a new puppy regardless of it's sex. :)
  6. I'm pretty sure I read elsewhere that the pound were notified that the people had found him. He was a bit of a mess when he was found and it was at night and the people who found him gave him a bath and cleaned him up and took him to the vet the next morning to be checked for a chip. He's an old boy and it's freezing at night at the moment
  7. Does she sit normally at other times? My mum had two dogs that sat like that when they were relaxed(regardless of the floor surface) but when training, etc they sat 'properly'. I always put it down to them just feeling really relaxed LOL. Her most recent dog passed away only recently at the age of 16 and only ever had a bit of the standard old age stiff joints, never any actual hip problems.
  8. Yeah he's a moron, my dog is trained to walk next to me but if I walked up to a tree at speed and then suddenly ducked around the other side of the tree of course she would get caught!
  9. Just watched a video of him saying that 'pain is not the way to learn' regarding the use of prong collars, followed by many shots of him slapping dogs around the head. Yeah, he's a bright spark!
  10. Just wanted to thank everyone for their thoughts and advice. I feel like when this litter is actually on the ground I'll now be in a better position to assess the best way to go about things. There are ways we could separate if necessary here, we can fence the 'sideway' off on either side of the house to create two smaller runs and could even put some fencing mesh around the patio and use that area to separate when we aren't home so there are options if it became necessary. When we had Zena the dane X rescue here not long ago we had to keep everyone separate and it was stressful as it was a case of leashing dogs to move them past each other and swapping indoors to outdoors regularly so everyone got a run. But I think that was more to do with my girls finding Zena's size(and she was in the midst of a phantom pregnancy so was a bit weird) very overwhelming moreso than her being a bitch.
  11. They are definitely a real prefix as a quick google brings up show dogs with Mmoatsvale dogs in their lines.
  12. What about calling the states Bull Terrier breed club
  13. It's one thing to offer a kennel if you want to but I wouldn't be going in to peoples yards to put one in! That could end very badly... I also wondered whether there might have been a side gate or similiar that is not easily visible. My kelpie is a dumb arse, perfectly good kennel and places to get out of the weather but if I was out and it rained and you looked over my fence there's a good chance she'd be choosing to girl up in a ball against the wall on the concrete.
  14. Actually he sounds like he's from the same camp of people who say that you should let one week old babies cry for hours because they are actually 'manipulating' you.
  15. I just read that how to pin your dog crappola. I wonder how many people have been bitten doing that exercise.
  16. What about emailing a breeder who has/has used one of their dogs and seeing if they can help you get in touch: http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/profile.asp?dog=66682
  17. The references I found referred to UK lines, breeder has a UK email addresss and many of the Australian references I could find said 'UK lines' but there was one old link that said he was in Melbourne. It's rather confusing if you google it. I can ask my workmate(Bull Terrier breeder) on Monday when I see here but we are NSW and she might not know anything.
  18. Well she'd be able to give you fashion tips too LOL
  19. Oh my gosh, i feel like I just got dog handling tips from Elle Woods (legally Blonde)
  20. I have a kelpie who was raised in much the same environment and household situation who has thrived and been an amazing family dog. Start by finding a breeder who's dogs often go to family homes rather than working homes and who do well in that sort of environment and then discuss your situation further with the breeder so that they can look out for a calm, biddable puppy for you. The breeders advice will be really valuable to you here and I would encourage you to go in with an open mind as far as what colour/sex you want and let the breeder show you which ones they think may best suit you out of the litter.
  21. fbaudry I would get a set of pjs made by Little Gifts and then if needed throw a coat over the top.
  22. Thanks SSM, all excellent points. Eventually the natural progression of our plans will likely end with us breeding hence the plans for a property suited to separating if needed. With any luck the pick for us will be a boy.
  23. Thanks Dasha, sounds like your oldest kelpie is very similiar to mine. I'm definitely boss but she's not shy in sorting things out if she thinks it's warranted. It's mostly noise.
  24. We have half an acre and as it's a long thin block(25m X 85m approx) we are designing it with the house a long way back on the property so there will be a large shed(/business premises) at the front, then a 20m X 30m orchard fully fenced and roofed, then the house, then the backyard. So when we need to separate not only will they be fenced apart there will be a whole house between them, I think it will be much easier this way when we are having to deal with entire dogs and bitches.
  25. I think we might be OK to have three like you DDD but I don't think we'd add another bitch until our kelpie Sascha was gone as she's the bossy one of the pack LOL. We'll have a few more at some point but as bassets are pack hounds they are usually quite placid with other dogs and not usually the one to start the fight so i think if we get any trouble it will be from Sascha. Down the track(like 5-10 years) we'll be just keeping bassets and maybe a bloodhound or two( :D ) but by then we'll be in our new property which will have two seperate fenced yards(the backyard and a fenced and roofed orchard the same size plus probably a smaller run spare) so separating during seasons, etc will be easy done. Our original intention was not to get another dog at all until we moved but fate looks like it may have other ideas. :D
