  1. I'm not far south coast I'm south coast at Nowra, Eurobodalla is a different group. The one up here had some issues and isn't doing dogs at the moment. I sent in an app with AWDRi
  2. I am on the Sth coast but I only know of awl and RSPCA here. Awl doesn't do dogs here and I don't want to do the RSPCA foster program. I am happy to work with someone further away and would take small friendly working dogs. I can go as far as goulbourn to meet transport. I love the little kelpie cross girl over at Wagga if someone needs help with her and she is goo with other dogs. If I am fostering through an organisation do I need my own registration exemption? How do things like vet costs and adoption payments usually work?
  3. Thank you Nic for going and sharing your love with May and ensuring her last little while was peaceful. It is extremely sad that it had to come to this but I am glad she ended up in HP rather than dying probably alone and in pain at home from infection.
  4. I won't be able to answer my phone today Nic, I work in a shop on Saturdays, we are crazy busy. Apart fom that I seem to have temporarily misplaced my phone which is the only reason I haven't texted you yet I'm going to have a dig in the car in a minute before I have to leave for work...
  5. Firstly there's no point 20 separate people all calling the police at once, there is a reasonable chance that someone was attempting to call for help even if others were filming. Secondly, it's a big ask to ask someone else to get in the middle of that, as an emergency service member potentially involved in rescue we are always taught to look after yourself first because there's no point having an extra casualty if you couldn't have done anything to help anyway and thirdly the film as others have pointed out is valuable evidence, it's not filming that is wrong it is what you do with the film, we are also asked that if we stop to assist in an emergency and need to move things that might be considered evidence later that we photograph or film and were told that it is also worth doing as a member of the public. If you hand those images over to police as evidence you have done nothing wrong, what is dodgy is when people think it's ok to share these images on things like youtube for notoriety.
  6. My experience of approaching breeders at shows is that it's all about picking the right time as opposed to being there early. Breeders will be prepping their dogs before their turn, I always just wandered around and watched the action and tried to get a feel for the personality of the breeders and their dogs, and when the breeders I wanted to talk to weren't running around like mad things foofing their dogs fur, and the chardy had been cracked open and they were in sit and chat and watch the rest of the dogs mode that was my cue LOL
  7. There's a dog at our local pound at the moment who is a whippet cross, his pound name is 'Ralph', my son took one look at him a said "It's Wreck It Ralph" LOL, seemed to sum him up quite well actually. He seems like a lovely little guy so I hope he goes to a home soon
  8. My mum's old dog loved everyone, then one day mum was walking her and this bloke walked past them about 20 metres away, suddenly mum's dog was growling and snarling and all sorts of stuff. The guy had done nothing to cause this outburst and mum's dog had never done it before and has never done it since. So I am inclined to say that they can have just one person that they don't like for whatever reason.
  9. Yeah just looking at the photos it looked like it might. I think the Irish is off the list unfortunately, I'll keep the other two on for now.
  10. Not as keen on the look of the tibetan, they have that fluffy lap dog look about them like a shih tzu, etc and I prefer the more streamlined terrier look if I was to go for one of the smaller terriers.
  11. So Nic I thought I would just make a little list here for you of questions since I'll be working when you go tomorrow and so you don't have to try to look back through the thread for my ramblings :) Any history for her on how she ended up at the pound? Do they know how she is with other dogs(my two are girls and also working breeds)/cats/kids? Any other health problems they know of/have checked for? - How do her joints seem/is she still quite mobile? Does her hearing seem OK(does she seem to have any sight at all or is it completely gone)? Does she show any tendency to snap or lash out if she is surprised? Are they aware whether she is house trained? Any behavioural stuff that we should be aware of, barking, etc? Given she doesn't fit within their adoption process what are their 'terms' for release for her(costs, is she desexed, etc) I'm sure I'll think of a few more, I'll add them to this post as I think of them
  12. I don't actually get asthma from the dogs themselves it just seems to be if the fur is all over the place, so it's more a matter of not having fur all over the carseats, etc I prefer the softer coat and no matter what I had it would most likely be clipped fairly short to help guard against ticks.
  13. There is no question at all here of my time commitment and willingness, I've just spent 18 months rehabilitating a rescue british shorthair who I had shipped all the way from Perth who wouldn't come within five feet of a human being and will now practically lie on your face purring and I spent 6 months doing physio on a corella with a fractured pelvis just to get him walking vaguely normally and he's still a work in progress as he is still unable to perch or fly... So time and patience I have, reasonable vet bills I can deal with, it's only if she has a temperament that means she wouldn't fit with our house or things are likely to completely get out of hand financially that I will have issues. Of coarse I realise that she may seem fine now and then go downhill in 6 months time but by then I should be working and things will be easier anyway.
  14. Yeah I always wanted a pug(or a boston) but then I found out about the fur and new instantly that one would never work with my hay fever and asthma.
  15. She is blind I would say. Actually Nic can you ask what they think of her hearing, I have found blind dogs do OK as long as their hearing is still OK and vice versa but when both senses go they can get stressed and defensive which would worry me in a family environment.
  16. OK, still probably a lot lower than my kelpie and basset then I would imagine? At least being smaller a couple of those wouldn't take up the whole boot like the girls do now LOL
  17. Maybe plan your first farm stay when your pup is still quite young in order to do that initial training. It helps if you have chooks, could you maybe hire some for a few months through one of those hen hire mobs that supplies the hen house, etc. I had both ours around chooks and rabbits from the day they came home, zero tolerance from the moment they walked in the door for any antisocial behaviour around the small animals. The pups would follow me as I went to feed the chooks, etc and so they never really questioned my expectations, it was a simple case of "the boss says don't touch, so don't touch or there'll be hell to pay!" They'll pretty much tolerate anything now, our free range bunny passed away a couple of years ago from old age but used to eat out of the dogs bowls and they won't even touch day old chicks with the mumma chook. I even had an emu chick for about ten weeks who wandered around the backyard all day LOL
  18. So so the welsh and lakeland shed? The irish looks like it would shed?
  19. Quite similar looking. If anyone has a personality comparison between these two from their experience I'd be interested. Sometimes in the next twelve months once I have dne a bit more research I might try and get to a show with lots of terriers and have a bit of a look.
  20. Thanks Boronia but realistically we are talking about something that will likely be a few years away so there's no rush to find a puppy. :) I'll go have a look at the Lakeland
  21. From what I read they seem similiar personality wise to a jack russell, strong willed, smart but important to put the time into early training and socialisation so they don't go off the rails. Which all seems pretty reasonable to me. This little dog might b a serious contender.
  22. Stripping them doesn't worry me as long as they aren't going to shed all over the carseats? LOL I'm sitting here reading about them and I'll have a look for that thread but if anyone has any personality insight I'd be interested.
  23. !!!!!! How have I never heard of these! Tell me more!
  24. I absolutely adore airedales but they are just too big. If I could have a mini airedale I'd so be sold! :)
  25. Nic I'll send you an sms so you have my number but I'll be at work all day tomorrow so either put some info on here and I'll see it when I get home or contact me after 6pm
