What Is The Definition Of Rescue?
kelpiecuddles replied to casowner's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Can you clarify what you need a definition of, a rescue usually implies an organisation or service whereas a shelter implies infrastructure so i wouldn't think of them as the same thing? -
If you organise the local listings by price it is sitting at $550,000

If you can look past the disgusting business ethic of the place as it is it would be a great facility for a rescue or a boarding kennel. I agree with the person who said to desex the current lot and find them nice homes and then repurpose it!

No problem. If you look about half way through when he misses a couple of jumps it's probably most obvious what I mean. You give him the direction but it's not clear enough to him which way you want him to go so he stops and looks at you, which is good, atleast he's focussed on you. If you can make your directions really clear and confident you might find some of your frustrations with him resolve because his confidence will probably increase too. If you see him stopping like that when you are training use it as a reminder to make your arm directions stronger for him. Good luck!

Where Would I Find Dog Sports Calenders For My Area?
kelpiecuddles replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thanks Aussie. Seems like there are a few things happening that weekend so I'm feeling a little torn as I had something else planned for the kids, always works out that way! -
Call me crazy but it seems to me like you aren't being very confident in your directions, the dog seems confused sometimes and might do better if you were clearer with your signals. Maybe go on youtibe and watch a few videos of the pros and see how confident their hand signals are and then compare to give yourself some ideas, I'd suggest watching your video with the sound off as it might be easier to see what I mean. Please don't take it the wrong way because you are well on your way I'm just trying to offer some constructive help. :)

Any Opinions On This New Aussie Food?
kelpiecuddles replied to Rosetta's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
If you read it it is dehydrated so i guess the theory is that the hydrated weight would make it much less per KG?? Rehydrated it would probably work out to a similiar cost to those mixed wet diets you buy frm the fridge. -
My neighbour is an agility junkie(has her own equipment even) and has four border collies which are all highly trained, she also works with many of her borders' siblings. I can ask where her dogs come from if you like. Any border collie from sheep working lines should do well in agility.

Hope it all works out well Andrea and she finds a nice home close to where you are. If all else fails she is welcome to come to me, on what I'll tell my husband is a short term arrangement but would most likely end up being a foster failure arrangement No shortage of 'special needs' animals around here and I have vet nursing experience so I'm no wuss over minor medical issues if you need a spot for her.

Advice On Owning A Big Dog And A Little Dog
kelpiecuddles replied to LillyFlower's topic in General Dog Discussion
If you like beagles but are unsure if they would be too full on maybe look at bassets. Our girl is very similiar personality wise to a beagle but they aren't as full on and being short wouldn't be that much taller than your frechie. They are very gentle and Josie has always naturally just laid down to play. Also very cruisy so would be easy to have in the office. -
We've done interstate travel with JetPets too and found them good.

Maybe a bee or wasp sting that hurt and made him upset and drooly. Poor baby

Inthe case of legal action there may be reasons other than Sas's preference why details can't be discussed.

Actually the OP did already tried that with the greyhound on it's own, I was just expanding on a suggestion made earlier by another poster. What about a doggy door so the grey can come and go? Or leaving the laundry door ajar to see if having outdoor access helps and if it does then consider a dog door.

Dogs Seized From No Kill Shelter
kelpiecuddles replied to HeelerLove's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Yes they are that stupid. If they'd just stood up and said, "yes their are problems, we acknowledge that, we are going to deal with them properly and make the changes we need to in our facilities and our business model and we'll be back to operating the rescue as soon as the situation has been resolved", then walked away from the media and spent their time doing constructive stuff and made real, lasting changes they would have a lot more respect, they've just gone about it all wrong. -
True but there also aren't many DOLers who aren't aware of it now anyway LOL
-
Maybe if there is someone who genuinely has need to dsicuss due to an actual existing similiar situation they are currently dealing with they could pm Sas privately. I don't see any benefit in outing it all publicly.

Just a thought but have you tried putting both dogs outside in the kennel? You said that you put him out but he barked for the other dog, would putting them buth out be possible to see if that helps at all?

Where Would I Find Dog Sports Calenders For My Area?
kelpiecuddles replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thanks for all that! I love watching the 3 sheep trials but I think i'm a bit weird that way, I always wanted to train my kelpie and did take her to one herding training day back in Melbourne where she showed promise but as a poor uni student I couldn't afford the cost to keep going. I dod know where a couple of those places are so may think about it. I work on Saturdays which doesn't work well for the agility one but might try to make it to flyball either in Wollongong or in Ulladulla
