I have bought 2 good strong ones from Deals Direct, good prices too.

I have to keep my dogs water bowls really full because two of my whippets like to drink with their noses pressed on the lip of the bowl, so that their noses are actually on the outside of the bowl, and they lap that way, obviously they don't want any water up their nostrils.

Funny sequel to this.......the dreaded KC never developed, Ebony must have just had a scratchy throat or something, I had given her a dried lamb crunchy the night before, so maybe it was that. I gave her and the whippets a few doses of Manuka honey, and nothing further developed....except that I am now the one swallowing the Manuka honey, I have such a sore throat, I can hardly talk, swallow etc........... Trish

Erny, she won't take it off the teaspoon, I tried that first, mind you the whippets loved it, I gave them some just in case. I haven't heard any coughs overnight. so heres hoping its not KC. I bought the honey at Colonades at DVC, the health food shop by Woolworths. Trish

Thanks, I have got the ActiveManuka honey 20 UMF, and have given her a teaspoon of it, but she wouldnt take it in water, so I gave it to her in a little milk, I have to be careful of fats with her because she has had pancreatitus and is on Royal Canin Low Digestive food, so hopefully the 1%fat milk won't hurt her. Fingers crossed that it is not KC, it is day 3 today since the party, seems a bit soon, but I would rather be sure than sorry, I have 3 whippets too, one is 14 and I don't want her to contract it either. What is the incubation period for KC.? I took my greyhound to the GAP Christmas Party on Sunday, and today have noticed that she has given a few coughs, I immediately thought of KC, could this be possible ? If so how much Manuka Honey do I give her ? Thanks, Trish

I have passed on the information to friends who live in the area, fingers crossed for his safe return. It must be a nightmare for his owners living interstate. Trish

I don't think she would be on insulin, unless she is diabetic as well. My greyhound has had an attack of pancreatitus and I feed her the Royal Canin Digestive Low Fat dry and canned food, but for variation I give her some roo meet, (human grade), and also the BARF roo patties, she copes with them really well. Boiled chicken breasts too are fine. Cooked oatmeal is also supposed to be good for them, and I do what Cynthia does with the veggies and mix them in with their food. The treats I use are only 3% fat so they are OK. I have found that as long as treats etc are below 6% fat, they don't upset her at all. Fat is the problem, so you have to be vigilant about treats etc. I have to be careful if I have doggy friends here and they give my whippies treats that they don't give Ebony anything that is not low in fat. If this is the Vet on the right hand side of the road when you are heading north, then I second your recommendation, they are great, and they do get a lot of sighthounds up there. Dr. Rebecca Stanton is an excellent vet and she was there part time. Trish

Have you tried her with the canned version of I/D ? My greyhound had a pancreatitus attack and was on Hills I/D, she ate it with the canned version, but I have changed her to Royal Canin Digestive Low Fat dry and canned and she prefers that. I don't know about any natural diet, I guess boiled chicken and rice might be OK, you probably need to check that with your Vet. Trish

When my greyhound was given Stemetil to stop vomiting, she had a bad reaction to it, she wanted to chew everything, someone had to be with her for 24 hours to try to stop her, she even chewed my new wooden kitchen cupboard doors. If she wasn't trying to chew something she was digging at the floor, bedding or carpet. Needless to say her file has been marked accordingly. Trish

If she has extractions your Vet will probably advise not to give her mince as that can get into the cavity and cause infection. Soft food but chunky is what I have fed after my greyhound had teeth removed. Trish
