Sa Govt Employs Dog Experimenter As Thinker In Residence
Trishm replied to Robbi's topic in General Dog Discussion
Why 'sadly'? Who in their right mind is going to take on a universally respected Prof of Psych on something he did 50 years ago with the approval of his Ethics Committee because one person wants to call him a torturer of animals. I'll ask again, have you ever seen a medical specialist and then abused them for conducting experiments 50 years ago for their PhD so they could cure you? I dont get it because a lot has changed in the last 50 years so bringing something up that he did half a century ago when it was accepted has absolutely no bearing on what he does today. I was referring to the Mayor who was prosecuted and found guilty of animal cruelty, the people have protested about his election to no avail. -
Sa Govt Employs Dog Experimenter As Thinker In Residence

Sadly this is too true. -
Would anyone who is still about to send an order be happy to order a Doog Walking belt for me ? My shared order with another Doler has arrived and now I realise I would like another belt for my daughter. I am happy to pay postage from anywhere to Adelaide.

Some people say "But I brush it every day" and when you question what sort of brush they have etc, it is quite obvious that they are just brushing over the top of the coat, and not brushing the roots. Then you get the people who drop off their poodle to be clipped and say 'please don't make it look like a poodle' You can't win.

This ^ After 20 years I could handle being bitten, being shat on, trying my best to give each and every dog a positive experience it was the owners that finally did me in. Seeing the same dogs come in with the same eye/ear infections, the same matted coats, the same flea infestations etc etc and then listen to them say how much they love them and that they sleep inside when I was trying my best not to throw up becuase of that familiar smell of skin and ear infections not to mention the odour of wetting down dogs with massive flea infestations - that tainted blood smell. If they only shared half of the expectations on themselves as they do the groomer there wouldn't be half the problems - oops now I am generalising on dog owners. Unfortunately when you are a groomer when you have continuous bad owner experiences it damages the feel of the many many positive ones and I do miss the owners and dogs of the many brilliant customers that I shared over the years My priority was and will always be the comfort and the experience for the dog as they are the ones on the table getting clippers, scissors and strange hands holding them Amen to the above, I have been clipping for 30 years and seen it all, but last week I was presented with a dog for clipping, the owner conveniently forgot to tell me when she made the booking that the dogs leg had been injured and was bandaged by the Vet very securely. She thought it would be "OK for me to take the bandage off" to groom it......not only Vet Wrap, but adhesive bandage covering the whole leg and foot, apart from the time that it would have taken, I was not prepared to remove a bandage without sayso from the Vet. They didn't want to do it themselves, so Ok, just get the good ole groomer to do it. Needless to say the dog went home with the leg still bandaged and with advice to take it back to the Vet if they couldn't get the bandage off.

Thats good news, hopefully I wont have a problem then.

How To Convince Someone To Not Buy A Puppy
Trishm replied to pennysvn14's topic in General Dog Discussion
Apart from the fact that she is contemplating buying from a byb I think she has chosen the wrong breed for her circumstances. Whippets are not dogs that you can leave shut out in the backyard for hours while she is working or at Tafe. They need the company of their family, and to be a member of the family. They don't like extremes of temperature, they have little body fat so they don't cope well with the cold weather, they need coats etc. They don't like the very hot weather either, I hate to think of a little one left outside on its own in the heat. Good luck with trying to convince her, sounds as though she has made up her mind. -
Yeah, the exchange rate added $11 on to my purchase. Given that that is only about a quarter of what I'm saving on one item alone by buying it from Clean Run instead of locally I'm not going to complain too much though. Whoops, didn't think about that, do I owe you more money ?
-
I am so sorry, I just don't know what else to say, that is so sad.
-
I have just received mine from Clean Run, they had 30% off and free shipping. I haven't had a chance to use it on my boy yet, but am hoping that it is as successful as you have found it.

That is a despicable act, and the perpetrator should be punished. Sorry for your friends loss.

South Australian Dolers Please Help If You Can
Trishm replied to lovemymutts's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have passed on the information to a lady who is looking for a 2nd rescue dog. -
Would have been happy to help you, but I am going away for exactly the same dates as you. I have someone coming to stay to mind my dogs. I bred and showed Burmese for 16 years, and have recently lost my last puss, so it would have been nice to have the company of one for a few days. Good luck in finding someone.

Could A Whippet Live Happily In A Unit....?
Trishm replied to pesh's topic in General Dog Discussion
My whippets would live quite happily in a unit if they had plenty of walks etc, but they would not cope with being alone all day, they need company. Most greyhounds would cope very well being alone during the day, I know my girl would have been OK as long as she got plenty of attention at other times.
