Take two - I'l try that again. It was great today to meet a few more dolers that I had not met before and really enjoyed the relaxed training. A lot of my photos did not turn out very well, dunno why - maybe I'm just a crap photographer  Anyway I can only post 1 photo per post so here goes..... Wow, this is hot work........Byron enjoyed the bath more than the sheep -

Fantastic Vickie ;) So you should be very proud of Trim and yourself, what a great start to what is shaping up to be a very successful career for both of you. Any more pics?? I will be asking for weekly training tips and I now feel so enthusiastic and motivated I am going straight outside to practice figure 8's. Come on Pippi......

Poor Nicky :D Actually it doesn't look as bad as I had imagined. I have no experience with dogs losing an eye, but I believe they cope very well and it is us that don't. I'm sure Nicky will be fine and heal up quickly - at least he won't have to cope with pain and constant trouble with the eye, and maybe you won't need to visit the vet so often. Lots of hugs to you and Nicky . BTW enjoy herding next time you go. :D

Herding Guy, it's certainly starting to look that way!!! But I will be thinking of you on the plane on my way to Hamilton Island Hey I know herding is fun - but a choice between Herding and Hamilton Island ??? I know where I'd be, HAMILTON ISLAND yeeeeeeeh... Please take me... :pant:

I can vouch for that, great big sooky la la in my ear all day thats when he wasn't trying to get on my knee or in my bag. He was beautiful. I must add my thanks to Julie and Steve, what a great day and so much to think about. My head is still spinning & can't stop talking 'dog'. Nice to meet all the dolers - funny how the faces never match what you have imagined after reading so many posts - not that it was a disappointment at all Julie how did the video turn out? Congratulations on your training with your labs too, very impressive black boy, sorry forget his name - great demo.

Vickie: I also think that it depends how serious you are about one or the other. If it just a fun thing for the dog and more a social thing for you, then no problem doing both. If you want to excel at a sport my feeling is concentrate on one.

Does anyone have the information re the times and location yet or did I miss it?? -
Cavalier - considering the price of agility equipment, thats definitely the way to go. :D Do you just shove the poles into the ground, or are they on some kind of base?

If only I had the problem......Haven't won anything yet.. :D

Ballarat Obendience Trial (double)
Pippi replied to Sparty's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I'll try to get there, just to give my support to the rest of you and so Pippi can get socialised to the whole environment. I'll volunteer to look after the drinks - champagne anyone????? -
Sorry, won't be available for a couple of weeks now...

What a disappointment, not to worry - plenty more trials coming up. You should have just cancelled this week and stayed in bed. No herding Sat morning either, so either way you couldn't win. There's always another week....

OK, have definitely decided that there are enough dogs going, so I'll leave mine at home. That means I can watch, listen and learn without having to worry about whether my dog is alright, not too stressed, not too hot, not too cold - whatever. I think I'll be in a more relaxed state to learn. -
Apart from the grass burn issue, what other benefits are there to dogs from giving them an occasional dose of ACV, and how often should it be given?

Your Suggestions For Socialisation: Places Etc.
Pippi replied to haven's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
From 7 weeks my puppy was socialised/habituated to People of all shapes and sizes Supermarket (I tried to hide her under my jumper but got sprung and sent out ) Kids Schools Alpacas Chickens (she still likes to spend time in the chook house with them) Sheep Horses tractors whipper snippers rideon lawn mowers bob cats cars trucks motorbikes chainsaws lots of others I cant think of at the moment - the only place she hasn't been to is the beach, maybe this summer Oh, and trash & treasure markets too -
Hardly think withholding 1 meal for 1 hour could possibly constitute "starving".

Right-on YB My point exactly.. A good trainer will always have a tool bag full of different tricks and tools. Always prepared for THAT dog, where the usual tools may not work..

I'm really glad to hear that you enjoyed your course Mel774, good for you.. I have completed the NDTF course and neither I nor anyone else I know, "looks down their noses" at anyone who has completed a different course. Do you personally know anyone who has completed the NDTF course to make such a rash statement? Anyone who has completed any course usually does so with the best interests of dogs at heart, so I applaud anyone who loves dogs that much. But I dont agree with your opinion on NDTF trainers and students. Shame you have such a closed mind on training methods - all NDTF trainers that I know are perfectly happy and willing to look at a variety of methods enabling them to take into account the temperament of the particular dog that they may be training and what would be best for that particular dog and handler. Also is a pity that you feel you "don't use the training section" of this forum for the reason you mention. Again I would have thought that an open minded/enquiring dog trainer would be happy to learn from others in any forum and just maybe pick up some new information from someone else which may help in given situations. I certainly feel that I am a better trainer for the education I received at NDTF, which put forward various of methods of training and then allowed me to be the best judge of what was acceptable to me. Personally I think thats what any good education is about, opening ones mind to many opinions, theories and thoughts, not just looking at one.
