As you have said they keep sticking their heads and hands over the fence to harass the poor dogs just to make a point that they do not like dogs, there are countries that consider dogs unclean, so they would have known that there were dogs on your Gr Aunt's property, or maybe not as they are so well behaved and were not provoked at the time of them looking at their new home, that is beside the point though, what I would be doing is getting a video camera and set it up so that when the dogs start barking switch the camera on, then you will have visual proof, same if they come to the front door, if she has a peep hole in the door she would know who was there banging on the door go get the camera and video them hassling her.

Review Of Australian Quarrantine Importation
Mjosa replied to zeebie's topic in General Dog Discussion
Sheridan, as far as importing from Russia, they cannot come straight into Australia, I do not think their health testing is so stringent, they have to go to eg. the USA and stay there for six months, go through all the health testing there before leaving. I know this as two friends of mine in the USA took to look after two dogs for Australia, one of these puppies spent quite a bit of time in a veterinary clinic as it was very sick when it arrived, hence my thinking do they do any health testing at all in Russia. -

Review Of Australian Quarrantine Importation

We had a quarantine station here in South Australia, on Torrens Island, I had a dog quarantined there for two months required stay from the UK back in 1990 and about three or four years later they closed it down, now we have the choice of quarantining at Eastern Creek NSW or the one in Victoria. I am guessing Govt. cost cutting once again -
Although I am a French Bulldog breeder, I was given this wonderful movie in DVD form for Christmas, it was the most wonderful story, I cried for most of the movie, what an amazing dog and also the amazing statue near the railway station in memory of this wonderful wonderful dog of long ago, 1934.

I know of at least one Bracco coming to the Sydney Royal from Adelaide, he would most probably be entered in Puppy class, will watch the results for them with interest.

What Can Be Done About Unethical Registered Breeders?
Mjosa replied to Leema's topic in General Dog Discussion
I very seldom breed and this has been the deal since coming into pedigree dogs, I only breed when I have enough people on my books or I need something for myself even at my age if I get something that I think worth campaigning I will be out again,my last litter was in 2009, seven puppies, four sold to people who wanted my bloodlines, and they took them into the show ring, two of these dogs are Aust. Ch. and the other two NZ ch. the three remaining puppies went on limited register, anything that I sell as pets are on the limited as ,most of my puppies are, and they also go with a desexing contract, which is very imformative as to the conditions of sale. I have been in this game for years and learnt a lot believe me. I have sent frozen semen to the UK from the first use of it produced three Cruft class winners, I also have Champions in the USA one is a dual champion and his offspring has been titled too, I plan to mate my young girl, she is almost two years old, when she comes in later this month and I have two definte reorders to the USA, they will be shown before leaving here. -
What Can Be Done About Unethical Registered Breeders?
Mjosa replied to Leema's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have been breeding and showing dogs, showing until recently, since 1970, at that stage I had my first puppy to have a dabble in the show ring, she did fairly well, was very typical of the Pembroke Corgi for the day, then I decided to breed from her, she had a beautiful litter. Then came the time for selling them with some very nice babies amongst them, it was at this time the President of the club gave me very good advice and I have stood by it ever since. The advice was this; You do not know at eight weeks whether the promising puppy in the litter will turn out, so when selling tell them you are selling your bloodlines and the puppy is a gift. Pity that some breeders these days were not so kennel blind, how could you possibly know an eight week old puppy is show quality? If I have been asked for a show puppy I tell them the above or they have the option of me running the selected puppy on and show it myself, but of course this comes at a cost, to prove that it is worthy, without fail they take me up on the first option. -

Thankyou for sharing this, my husband is from Waterford in Ireland and he thoroughly enjoyed this video as well. Here in Adelaide with march, my husband marches in the Munster province, they usually have the Irish breeds, mainly the Wolfhound in the St. Patrick's Day march, it is a sight to see. Beautiful dogs gorgeous breeds, loved the Glen of Imaal sitting on his haunches.

I have bred shown and owned Frenchies for almost 30 years, they are a wonderful little dog to have as a companion, they love children are low maintenance, one from a reputable breeder seldom have health issues and they are dogs that do not bark for the sake of it, only when there is someone knocking at the door will they bark, and even then not all the time, they look at me as much to say well are you going to answer it or not? A word of warning though, the one thing that I impress upon people who are enquiring after a puppy, that they are indoor dogs especially when it is hot, they must be kept in air conditioning, I even have the ducting in my laundry, as they are very susceptable to heat stroke, and they can die very quickly. They are not cheap to purchase, just to warn you that they are on the expensive side.

I am so pleased to hear that your precious, and precious she is, is starting to show a marked improvement, but you are lucky your Ruby is actually acting like a Mother,my girl lost complete interest, her first litter she had seven and she was the perfect Mother, hardly had to do anything but keep the bedding clean with that lot, I think with the sinleton she thought was not worth putting the effort in  All the very best and I hope that she continues to thrive. Yes I found that good advice about weaning early, which I did, and he really took off once he was getting solids.

I had a singleton puppy almost two years ago and had the same problem with the Dam with milk not coming down, it was a c section too, I eventually hand reared him as the milk did not come down and sadly the bitch lost interest in the pup. I tried everything to get it to come down, but nothing worked. I reared him on Biolac, available at the SACA shop, I see that you are in the Adelaide hills like me, and good pet stores, he dropped a fair bit of weight and once on Biolac I could see the difference, and also being a singleton I have info here from top vets in the USA that say that singleton puppies can be weaned at an earlier age, so the day that he turned three weeks old I started to wean him, from there he never looked back, so be prepared to hand rear, rather than loose her as she is such a darling baby girl, sorry to hear of her siblings and the precious babies in the first litter.

Well said Secretary, this has been the bain of my life in recent years, so glad that you have brought it to the attention of the many new breeders we seem to be getting, so that they know from the outset what is correct in colours and what is HIGHLY UNDESIRABLE, we have to protect our beautiful breed from this colour problem, and unless the new comers, with all good intentions, do not have a mentor that have been in Frenchies for a good deal of time and know the dogs that sadly have been bred from with the incorrect colours and allowed to be on the main register, we are all liable to suffer in our breeding programmes, we do not need the mutants, of course some will get these colours now and again, but desexed limited register and as you said not worth much in the money value for they are no good for breeding. I am wondering how we could possibly monitor this so as the controlling bodies will not allow them on main register as they have done so in the past.

I think that Karen Hedberg is out Windsor way, I stand to be corrected. I think that it would be a good idea to have this checked out by a vet who understands the bracchy breeds and if surgery is needed she would definitely know the amount of anesthetic to be used and also what type, Bracchies have to be handled differently to long nosed dogs when being put under, Karen Hedberg would be the best to see, you could contact her and make an appointment on the day that you would possibly be going to see that litter of Frenchies, she is on the way up there.

Definitely wait until the 28 days, before is a bit too soon.

Oh no Jr_inoz, I am so very very sorry to hear this extremely bad news in regard to three precious babies, all the anticipation and then this, big to you and precious babies fly with the angels to the I am hear if you want a chat.

Beautiful babies Shelbyville, poor Mum with those boobs, to help her though I would be putting warm damp flannels on them to relieve those lumps, also with only three puppies I would not be letting them use all the teats, as the puppies stimulate the production of milk, so I would be setting aside for their use, six teats, three for one meal and then next time the other side with three teats, that then gives the rest that are not needed time to dry up and lessens the worry for you. Definitely put the warm damp flannels on the boobs though, I just lay it on top of them, do not massage as it stimulates milk flow and we do not want to see mastitis set in.

Goats milk is fantastic, also you can get Biolac from the vet for supplement feeding, I hand reared a singleton puppy on that he he did fantastic on it. I would not be turning on the heat in the whelping box during the day, as we are forcast to have mid 30's from Tuesday, but you have to agree it it does get very cool at night just lately so put it on once it starts to cool down, I only have a heating pad with variable settings, I feel that a heated whelping box does not give arears for puppies to cool down, and they will move looking for a cool spot if they get too warm and they would not have anywhere if the whole bottom is heated and get dehydrated, which is something you definitely do not want to happen, you have to regulate the heat to keep the puppies comfortable until they are two weeks old, at this time they can regulate their own body heat. I see you mentioned being prepared for tube feeding, I have an article here that gives you every reason never never tube feed, if puppies seem to be weak or fading use the Beef Liver remedy and then supplement until they get stronger, does not take long. If you want a copy of the article written by a vet in the USA re tube feeding and the Beef liver remedy, get your supermarket or butcher to get some beef liver in before Wednesday, just pm me on [email protected] and I will send them too you.

Has the car park mess been finished? Last September I was sending a puppy to Qld., went to the old place near the terminal and of course it was gone, instructed to go over to the new place just off of Tapleys Hill Road, they are not the usual people that handled freight when they were in the old place, just a courier company, done that trip several times now and once you know the new place for pickup it is easy to find, definitely not walking distance from the terminal, would have to have a car and I am sure that taxis would not take a gorgeous Frenchie in their car. Welcome to Adelaide, once you get out of that airport and collect your precious cargo, you will find Adelaide a very friendly place.

Lost Greyhound Aldinga, (adelaide) Area. Has Been Found.
Mjosa replied to Trishm's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have friends who live at Aldinga beach near the scrub area, they walk their two Frenchies on the beach most days will give them the details and hope they see her and get her back where she needs to be. -
What about using Irish spelling seeing as you come from Northern Ireland. My husband is from the republic of Ireland and I am into using Irish spellings for naming my dogs and if perchance I like a particular name I use the Irish spelling first off and then next time around use the English version, they would not have a clue what it is all about. Here are two to start off with and their meanings. Caoimhe pronounsed Keeva, means beautiful and gentle, I have a Frenchie with that name as a pet name. Aishlinn means a gift. If you want I can continue having a look, even getting to the Gaelic spellings of place names. I notice Tramhore was mentioned, that is the incorrect spelling of Tramore in Co Waterford where I have my husband's family living the correct spelling is Traighmor I do not know the meaning of this but will ask my husband. If I am not mistaken there is a Frenchie kennel in Belfast that has that as their prefix not that that would matter here or does it? Best of luck.

Angelika in Cambridge is the vet my friend uses for inseminating and collecting and sending through Cryogenes the frozen semen that I have.
-
I have imported semen from the UK about four years ago, the repro vet over there is based in Cambridge and she uses Cryogenes based in Victoria, and what happens is that she usually tries to send at least three shipments in the same cylinder so as to defray the transport costs, split three ways, I had no problems with this company, in fact they were very polite and reliable. Yes UK is tough when it comes to AI being used over there from imported semen, I have sent semen over the past ten years to a friend there, what needs to happen the UK resident has to first of all get permission from the kennel club, then the bitch that the semen is to be used on has to have at least one registered litter got by natural mating before the owner can use the semen, well that is how it has happened with my friend. Never heard of the company you mentioned, rather deal with an Australian company such as Cryogenes for if anything happens they are easy to contact.

Thank you Talien for your very comforting thoughts for all of us that have lost our heart dogs this year, I have been through this many times over the past 30 years with Frenchies and I know that the terrible loss becomes a warm and wonderful memory, I remember each and every anniversary of my gorgeous kids passing to the rainbow bridge, but with my Bear it is still very raw, run free my gorgeous boy Mum loves you.
