Hope you enjoy your couple of days at Crufts, I went two days plus the General Specials on the Sunday night, I have been in dog showing since 1969 and of course Crufts was a big ambition of mine too and I fulfilled it in 2008 when offspring of my now deceased stud dog had three of them representing him. I must warn you that the rings, talking about 2008, are tiny and you are just about crushed out of existence with people and shopping trolleys getting all the goodies for the pets, not much about the show ring sadly with one proviso and that was General Specials night, now that is something that I would want and go and see again that was magical, but of course to attend that the tickets are dearer than the daily ones. Hope you have a great time.

What an amazing girl. Makes all the rescuing/fostering worth it, she is truly a very talented dog and obviously has a wonderful home who loves her. Great video.

I can understand if there were only puppies and they were not awarded a challenge, they are not the complete package at that age, we all know how much they can change even month by month. I know that in some European countries that they do not award a CC to any dog under 12 month of age, I have seen these visiting judges at our Royals no award CC even to mature dogs, obviously not in their opinion of comparing them to the standard worthy of a CC. Just one of a breed, I know about this have personally experienced it in the 1980's, they have the hardest job of all, no other competition except for a standard, when getting the CC I considered it worth more than any, then to prove it to go on and get at least a class in group and yes class in show several times, and this one of the breed only there on the day, so it is the standard you should be competing against not other dogs so to speak, I admire judges who do have the courage to do this non awarding, should be more of it and then we would not have so many dogs who maybe should not have a title, petrol champs we used to call them gathering six points at shows in the country where they knew there would not be any competition, takes a bit longer to get.

My vaccinating is the same as Aussie 3, 7 weeks 12 weeks and 16 weeks, a booster at 12 months from the 16 week vaccination, but the booster is done for three years, yes my vet gives a vaccination that last three years, costs just a little bit more than the annual one.

No wonder the spirit in the ring is declining, I have noticed over the years and I have been showing since 1969, the utter bad manners of some exhibitors and it is not only with the breed being discussed here. I have to add here for every bad mannered person in the ring you will find 10 great people who come week after week and when they do win everyone is happy to congratulate them, but the one bad one will lose favour very quickly and it could make life very difficult. This is a sport that everyone can enjoy, abled or disabled, not a damned boxing ring, I think that fixer needs to go and learn a few manners and the art of losing gracefully, next week it could be her going up, this is how things go in the world of showing but I would not expect the nice people go rushing to congratulate her until she changes her attitude, no dog is perfect and the judge judges on the whole dog, fault to fault, quality to quality and the one that appears to be the best in the line up is the one they chose, it is not an easy job and after all it is the judges opinion on the day. There is always next week.

I know how you are feeling. I lost my heart dog in June 2011, my darling Bear,he was 13 years old just, I could not bear to part with anything that belonged to him, I packed up his favourite toys, lead and dinner plate and put them in a safe and special place, the biscuits eventually had to be eaten by the Frenchies that I still have. Time heals, you never think it will but it does, now after this past 19 months I just remember the cuddles the walks and admire his descenants doing so well in the show rings around the world, he lives on through them. to you at this time of reminising. Hope that you will eventually arrive at the stage that I am at now, you will never forget, but when you think of them it will bring a smile on your face and a lovely warm feeling, they never leave you.

I like the Gaelic names spelt in Gaelic. My bitch at the moment is Caoimhe, I have had a Maille, Saoirse, Ruhrai Malachy Finbar, he is my stud but gets called Fin.

Just a small piece will do, put it into cold water just to cover, bring to the boil turn down to a simmer and cook until blood runs, strain the liquid and cool liquid then pour into an airtight container and refrigerate until needed. If you have a fading puppy, no matter how big or small the breed, place four drops of the liver tea on the tongue and repeat every four hours, I know that after 24 hours there is an adjustment to be made to the hourly times, would have to look that up.

Kaffy they are beautiful babies and gorgeous Mum. I was looking at the last pic, that set up for topping up looks like a great idea, how do you go about getting one, or how do you set it up?

Hi, Sounds like your girl is fairly imminent seeing as she is scratching around in dark places, I would now be confining her to the whelping box. Signs with my bitches over the past 40 years are as follows. They usually go off of their food 12-24 hours before whelping, most times just refuse to eat, or have a few mouthfuls which they usually will give back when the first pup is pushing it's way out, of course the making of the bed, such as yor girl is now doing, and another thing apart from the stick to you like glue, they usually have a bowel movement just before they start delivering, it is usually a soft texture and darker than usual. What I suggest is put her in the room she is to rear her and have her babies, get a comfortable chair and a good book and a cup of as I feel she is not too far off, watch late tonight or early tomorrow just the way things go sometimes, they like to keep you on your toes

What a beautiful old man he is, so glad he has seen in 2013, the little terrier types usually have long lives as long as they are loved and looked after. God bless him, hope he is around to see another year in. :) -
Two weekw after the last vaccination, I also do Kennel Cough, that one is done at around 14 weeks.

All of what Aussie 3 said, maybe if you give the specific breed you are looking for in the future I am sure that there are breeders of them here on DOL, now would be the time to start a rapor with them so as they can get to know you more, maybe having started this thread it will help to break the ice, so to speak. I wish you all the very best.

Well soon Virgin will have all our business the way they are going, they would be rubbing their hands together with the business that will be flowing their way, it is not only our business but I know first hand that the corporate world is leaving them as well, just what they deserve.
-
Ah so Qantarse are at it again. They have refused to carry Frenchies and any flat faced breed for years, give them the flick, on principle now I will not even fly with them, use VIRGIN, they are fantastic and the way they look after the dogs is amazing, well I have had nothing but praise for them, all puppies/dogs I have sent with them have been very well cared for.

That sounds normal for a bitch approximately a week out from whelping. My bitches do that but just prior to whelping I have noticed a change in colour, just going darker in colour, this happens when whelping is imminent. Best of luck with your babies.

Hi Coco. As you can see I too have Frenchies, I only came across this thread today. I live in the southern foothills and my vets are what I would call Frenchie specialists since they came to SA 15 years ago, they are excellent in the care of my dogs. They are :) Hub Vet clinic at Aberfoyle Park. I believe you are friends on FB with my very best friend Wendi, heard all about your pending move to Adelaide. Hope that your girl is doing well now.

She is just gorgeous big congratulations on her achieving her title, she certainly deserves it

In regard to staying overnight after desexing. I have friends whose bitch was desexed in September, they brought her home, when they got up the next morning she was near death from the bleeding, her bed was full of blood, this bitch had had puppies in the past, after five days of intensive care at the clinic she passed away. I was devastated as she was one of my retired brood bitches, I contacted my own vet and told him the story, apparently if a bitch has had litters the veins stretch and never go back to normal, they should be quarterised during the operation, she had a blood clot in the cervix, so here is a story that if she had been kept in overnight this precious girl would still be with us, she was just under five years of age.

Going to be too hot tomorrow, 36 degrees, to hot for dog and man to be out walking that far.

French Bulldogs are very social little people and as long as they are introduced to each other, supervised, you will find that they would become the very best of friends. I know people who breed Staffies and they have two Frenchies and they get on ever so well. :)

The file was too big to attach but it is called Mini chip and the contact for vets to get them is Dale Halling Email address [email protected]
-
I have attached the back page of our journal that advertises the mini chips, the usual scanner that vets have also can scan these mini chips, so no extra charge for the vet to have to go and purchase a new scanner.

Bisart Dobes and who ever else is interested, there are miniature microchips now, my last litter was done with them, my vet said they are the easiest things to insert compared with what I used to call the fountain pen insertion, they were advertised on the back page of DogsSA journal earlier this year, my vet said that the gauge of the needle was about a six compared to between 12 and 15 gauge of the old big cumbersome needles, the needle enters into the animal just like as if they were have their immunisation, I do not microchip until seven weeks of age just the same. I will look up that back page and post it on here if you are interested in a less invasive needle.
