  1. What Showdog said. I train my puppies for the show ring with food treats, cheese Kabana, called something else in the Eastern states, is a long thin smoked sausage, I never never throw it around the ring like some people do, mine are trained that they know what is in my pocket and when they complete the training or in the show ring they will get a bit of it when it is all over. Cannot abide by people chucking their dog treats in front of the dog in the ring. If you have a puppy/dog that is food orientated this is by far best way. :)
  2. Sasha's Blend, it is available online and from Veterinarians. My son has two Rotties and they get it sprinkled over their dinner each night, the bitch was just starting to have joint problems, I suggested this too him and after a couple of months she has no sign of her lamenes, so prevention is better than cure in most cases. He pays aroud $44 for 500gm pot and that lasts him just shy of three months for two. Sometimes you can get it cheaper by comparing the online shops that stock it.
  3. Congratulations on the safe arrival of your seven beautiful babies. :) Bet their Mum is so relieved, she looked so uncomfortable in that last picture of her.
  4. French Bulldogs are amazing for company especially in the situation you find yourself in with mobility, they do love to be the centre of attention and with children amazing, I have had them since 1982 and could not be without at least two or three :) Have attached a picture of a litter and there maybe one available. They do not care if they go for walks or not just as long as they have their humans for company. I walk mine every day except the really hot days. Their grooming requirements are minimal, faces and back ends washed each day and a flint stone through their coats once a week keeps them spick and span.
  5. I am so sorry to hear that Monte has not responded and still having seizures, a dog I bred passed at 14 1/2 years last November and my heart dog Bear in 2011 with the exact same symptoms, and we had to make that difficult for us, but not for your heart dog, decision. Bless you and your dear Monte, there will be plenty of our Doler dogs waiting for him.
  6. Cryogenes in Victoria arrange for a cannister to be shared for export and importing semen.
  7. I had a repro vet collect and freeze the semen from my dog, he did all the required paper work and it was sent to the UK by Cryogenes who are based in Victoria. The collection, freezing and freight plus paper work health testing of the dog Aqis fees are all payable by the person receiving the semen. You also charge the normal stud fee, it is a very expensive exercise.
  8. I had to deal with a similar situation a couple of years ago with my heart dog, I kept Bear as comfortable as possible for about two weeks, then this particular day he was laying in his bed, he gave me a look as much as to say I need to go, it broke my heart to make that decision, I miss him so much but I never have regretted in letting him have the peace he deserved and he went to the rainbow bridge the next day, he had just turned 13 years old. I know that it is your decision, but when the quality of life for loyal faithful friends has diminished to the extent that Monte seems to be, I say to you put his comfort before your feelings, he sounds like a very sick baby and needs rest.
  9. In the DogSA journal they put in every now and again the code of ethics we in SA must abide by if we are members of DogSA,the age is eight weeks, but since mandatory microchipping came in for us, we have to have puppies microchipped before registering them, an ANKC rule,so my babies, when I have some, are done at nine weeks and I let them go at 10 weeks.
  10. Cash in both cases. When I started showing back in 1969, I used to love to get a sash and trophy, but not a prize,as it is usually something that gets stored in a cupboard and never used or just thrown out when it is time to have a clear out of cupboards, not everyone's taste would match, unless of course they are dog related, I was a trophy officer for a large club here for a few years and found that the dog trophies were the best received, for BIS would be a trampoline bed, usually bedding which was always gratefully received. I have two large whicker chests full of trophies and sashes, I am past displaying them, hence my voting on cash, then I go out and buy something for the dogs. :)
  11. The Pug with his antics is just displaying dominance as the Bulldog is getting older he is letting him know who the boss is. I would definitely keep a close eye on them as being two entire males it could end up in fighting once the younger dog reaches maturity. I would be thinking of desexing one or both to avoid a nasty confrontation in the not too distant future.
  12. I have had two singleton litters, well one had three babies in it but born prematurely and two had not developed to survive the outside world, the Dam of this litter, her first, was an amazing Mother, the first singleton I had was just that, his Dam did not want to know him she was so disinterested, yet with her first litter of eight an amazing Mother. I handraised this baby, but as there was only one, speaking of both now, they were very well socialised. With my breed it is almost always a c section, and do temps for about three days before due date, and I work hand in hand with my vet. I would take her at about day 60 and get a prog test done as that can determine how far off she is, I will be doing this from now on less invasive than having a thermometerup their backend morning and night.
  13. So sad, sometimes life throws curve balls, hope her remaining life will be as pain free as possible. My suggestion. Crystal's Legacy.
  14. :) Well done Muttrus, I had a good feeling that this was going to be a happy story. That puppy will have a wonderful life. :)
  15. What a kind person you are to take the time out with this lady to explain the ins and outs to make sure that a dog is placed in the right home. I do hope with the meet and greet with the dog you have available is successful and I know that by the sounds of her you will be getting reuglar updates. :)
  16. With my breed there is a worldwide data base, Ingrus, they do other breeds, it is a free site and we can add our dogs and update dogs already there example pictures, when you search a dog in your pedigree, if it is on the database it brings up the requested dog, you scroll down to the bottom and there is the extended pedigree with photographs of the dogs and you can print it off. I have been researching the dogs in my pedigrees for years and this site has been a tremendous tool.
  17. :) Just beautiful, bless them, hope that they continue to thrive,Mum and babies, and that when they are all grown and ready for their new homes that they will be loved with a passion.
  18. Reading this morning my electronic Dog World, the big show Windsor in the UK are allowing legally docked dogs to be exhibited at their upcoming show, so glad to hear this, it looks like a group of people with docked breeds have united, a few other English clubs also mentioned, at last it is great to see a bit of sensibility is occuring.
  19. Leema, Rod and his wife Ronnie both work in the city of Melbourne, they live a bit away from town, so I suggest that you phone this evening around 7.30 pm
  20. Let me state from the beginning, I am NOT against docking, in the past, back in the early 1940's my first pet was a beautiful Fox Terrier Smooth, in 1969 I purchased my first pedigree dog a Pembroke Corgi, so I have owned shown and bred a docked breed with a fabulous mentor, Ivor Snaith, who taught me how to dock. Oakway I mentioned the frozen semen previously, as quite few a posters are lamenting all the new genes that they would miss out on, as an option, so the gene pool will still be there and not the dog, unless of course people are wanting to make mega $$$ from the import, believe me the bloodlines are the most important thing not the dog to be imported and hope that he throws what you are after and if people study their selected breeds pedigrees and know the dogs in that pedigree and what they produce then there is no reason why these overseas gene pools would be lost to you. You can import not just one breeding but up to six, so, sell the excess breedings.
  21. The gene pool does not necessarily have to suffer, instead of importing a dog, there is also the frozen semen route to bring in new bloodlines. This is the way I do it now, rather than risk the life of a dog on the long haul flights, lost one going to the UK about eight years ago, would never ever do that again.
  22. As Isaid in a previous post how some dogs are"petrol Champions" very seldom getting shown were there is competition in their particular breed, then the owners will spend money advertising the fact that their dog is a champion, along comes someone new to the breed, wants to breed a litter having no idea of bloodlines or the dogs that appear in the pedigrees, breeding is a science as far as I am concerned, approaches this person whose dog would not get used in usual circumstances blinded by the fact that he is a Champion and whoops along comes problems. Refusing CC's is a good thing if the judge on the day deems it not worthy, they are doing a professional favour to the dogs of the future. Should be more of it.
  23. That is great news, so pleased about the turn around.
