  1. I would never import in co ownership, too many things can go wrong, I have seen this happen with someone I know personally, not my breed, and it ended up very sour and some legal action taken. I imported a dog but he belonged just too me. Be very very sure about the person you plan to do this with and have everything covered in writing and signed by both parties with a JP to witness the signing. As for vet bills and any expenses relating to the import such as vet bills freight and quarantine, except show entries, I would say fifty fifty with the costs.
  2. Either look at the breeder listing here on DOL, or contact DogsSA to see if she is still registered with them, they would be able to tell you. I knew of her years ago in the shows, but not heard of her lately.
  3. Sasha's blend has helped my son's Rottie. She has done well on that, just sprinkle it over the dinner at night.
  4. Corgis are Welsh cattle dogs, that is what they were bred for to herd cattle, being so fast and low to ground they could avoid being kicked by cattle. I used to show and breed them many years ago.
  5. Thank you for posting this , of course I went straight to the Non sporting group, but by the looks of things I am going to have hours looking at all the other groups and of course the best in show :)
  6. I always say sorry to my dogs if I have accidentally stood on a foot or trip over them, but then I am always talking to them and in their own Frenchie way they talk back, we have some interesting conversations.
  7. One of my son's lived in Cherrybrook when he first went to live in Sydney, their beautiful short haired Persian boy got a tick and sadly died. Coming from SA they were not aware of ticks and the sad consequences of paralysis tick.
  8. Typical Frenchie they just love life, they are known as a clown in a philosopher's coat, no wonder I have had them for 33 years, if you are down they bring you right out of it with their antics. Just love this video.
  9. Scourban I have been told by my vet is too drastic on a puppy so young, but from the vet you can purchase Peptosyl which also does a great job on clearing up any loose stools, I am wondering if it is wise, also, to be getting her vaccinated until this problem is fixed.
  10. Many many years ago when I was showing and breeding Pembroke Corgis, when my first litter came I was advised by a very wise man, Ivor Snaith the President of the Corgi club here in SA. that if someone came along wanting a show puppy,he said the wise thing to say is that I do not sell show puppies but I sell my bloodlines, in that way you have not promised that the puppy that they purchase has been guaranteed to be the one. There is absolutely no guarantee that a 12 week old puppy could be sold as a show dog, they can change so much. As others have said if you want to break into the show circle it is best, if you can, to buy a young adult that has had a reasonable amount of success in the show ring, this is not as easy as it sounds. Go to the shows get to know the breeders of the breed that you prefer, let them know how interested you are in showing.
  11. Noahs crossing in Lewiston does tubal ligation and yes the bitch will still have seasons, he does the vascetomys as well on puppies at around 8 weeks.
  12. DogsSA are working on their submissions re the desexing, also the Australian Veterinary Assoc., I agree with desexing pets as I have seen my breed go from being almost rare to flavour of the month, but not a blanket rule as to what age for it to be done. When I bought my first French Bulldog there were only three or four breeders Australia wide, and I see that DOL have listed 200 breeders admittedly I got my first 33 years ago and the 200 mentioned here is just a drop in the ocean of the real figure on people breeding this breed.
  13. I have been reading this thread with interest. This bill has NOT yet been presented to parliament. This afternoon I was listening to ABC radio and they had Felicity Ann Lewis, the chair of cat and dog management board on plus a veterinarian who is on the vet board, very interesting to see how her attitude changed when the vet gave statistics on the aggression/biting of undesexed dogs. The Vet board here did some research over a period of 12 months with the Women and Childrens hospital, 95% of the bite cases presented were that of a family or friends dog and that the children had provoked the attack, so amongst that % there would have been desexed dogs and bitches. He pointed out the dangers of desexing puppies before sale, they could die with the procedure being done so young, can lead to all sorts of problems later, said it was better to have them done at around six months of age when they are able to cope, suggested that the breeder consults with their vet as to what the best age would be for being desexed, all breeds are different, mine recommends not before nine months with my breed, all pet puppies sold from here go with a desexing contract. Then the chairwoman said "well the breeders could get a letter from their vet stating the age that they deem acceptable for particular breeds to be desexed" sounds more reasonable to me. This is what Victorian breeders do, get a letter from the vet stating that the puppy is too young to be microchipped when advertising them for sale, so as it can be shown to council etc., who needs to know. So let us all sit back and see what comes of this, she said that the bill will be presented at the end of the sitting term at the end of the year, if passed, now it has to be passed, it would not come into law until the middle of next year.
  14. When I fly puppies interstate I do not go through dogtainers or Jet Pets, I do the booking myself with the airline, cuts out the middle man, a small airline crate that you can purchase with the airlines you are going to use would not be more than $50,when you get her home you could advertise the crate on ebay or on here for sale, doing it this way would be about half of what you have been quoted. I would not, as a breeder, be wanting to see one of my puppies travelling for 3 days by car, in fact I would insist on the pup being flown.
  15. Never experienced this with my dogs, but personally I would take him to the vet and have him checked out as he could have an infection. Is the spotting clear or opaque?
  16. I used Jet Pets when I exported three dogs to the USA. They do all the paperwork and organise the flight etc.
  17. Definitely no money until all tests have been done and would suggest, like I did, payment in full to the breeder one week out from them exporting, direct bank transfer was done. I personally would not deal with someone like that too risky considering how much it costs, if something did go wrong they would have your money you most probably would not get the dog and then they can go and sell locally, so double the money for the same dog for them.
  18. At three weeks of age you could start weaning them onto solids, depending on the breed, some top grade mince enough to cover a 20 cent coin, twice a day, during that time my girls, usually beginning to find feeding them on the demand basis a bit over the top, between these two solid meals maybe three times on their dam. Eventually they will want more of the meat meal, plus soaked kibble and want to go to their Mum less and less. Before long, if offered, you will find that the puppies will start lapping, I use Biolac and they have this until about five or six weeks then onto water.
  19. That is right, no charge when I send them off.
  20. When it comes to chilled or frozen semen it is wise to get it to it's destination as quick as you can eg flying it over, coming by road throws up all sorts of problems, road accidents the semen thaws out if frozen, chilled semen I would imagine would degrade somewhat coming by road. $210 is a reasonable fee especially if it includes transport from the airport to the vet clinic. I used Cryogenes years ago and I flew frozen semen over to Adelaide, not much has changed with the cost, I was not about to risk it coming by road as it was imported from the UK.
  21. It has been a couple of years now since I had a litter here but I got individual microchip forms for each puppy and I filled them in with the details of the new owners and I posted them off once signed at the time that they picked their puppies up, it could have changed by now.
  22. I always wait for the second season, with a Frenchie a lot of them do not come into their first season until they are about 12 months old then cycle every eight and a half to nine months, so this means that my girls are almost two years of age before their first litters. I would never mate them on their first season as they are still puppies in their minds, amazing what that extra time does in them maturing and well and truly can cope with a litter they are fabulous Mothers.
  23. Could not find the brochure, so did a google and the company is there. Snowsilk whelping boxes, have all different sizes, replaceable panels if needed and of course what I said in previous post, extensions for a puppy run and a cover to go over the whelping box in early days after birth.
  24. I cannot remember the name of the people who made them, brought home some vouchers about all the components but cannot put my hands on them, here somewhere, will have to have a look around, I just loved the whelping box/bed and the fact that you could get attachments for the basic box, cover over the box when babies were first whelped and made a den for the Dam then for later on the puppy run out from the box, of course these were optional extras.
  25. I saw them at Crufts and was very impressed with the construction, the easy clean and to be able to store as a flat pack. I was looking at them as a whelping box and with the particular company at the show you could also purchase a puppy run to attach to the box, wish I had bought one now.
