Yes I guess the uncertainty of NOT knowing what's wrong is almost as bad as knowing it is something not so nice but treatable... (goodness, I just re-read the gobble I just spat out but can't find any clearer way to express myself tonight ) I maintain that it is still better than finding a very unpleasent, untreatable something... Anyway, thanks for taking the time to let us know how you are going and have a great time with your interstate visitors

The tests came back "normal" and her bruising seems to be slowly subsiding Fingers crossed

I was eating my mashed up weetbix, milk and sugar for breakky when I opened this topic ... The dogs have just finnished licking the bowl clean :D My dogs occasionally get "mucous poo" after eating pressed buffalo skin chews/"bones"... If your dog has these "bones" occasionally as a treat, try to see whether the mucous poos may be associated (ie : the next morning) Can it not simply be related to a natural renewal of the bowel/intestine due to a particularly arduous digestion

Thank you very much for passing by your vets place for me, it is much appreciated... I'm wondering if my vet just told me is was a coagulation test to stop me from worrying ... I'll have the results tomorrow and will post an update then

It is only 4pm here Yes Cactus, thank you, I feel she is slowly/slightly improving. She has stopped taking vitamin K and she SEEMS to be bruising a little bit less (or is it just that I'm working hard at limiting her play)... The vet doesn't seem to be overly worried about the bruises themselves because to date it is fairly evident that she has had no major haemorage whatsoever due to her pink mucouses and the confirmation of a high red blood cell count... He is strongly against sedating her (in case it reacts somehow on her clotting problem) and doesn't think she requires crating (just as well, she'd give me hell ) I just have to impeach her from plowing into her buddies... The only thing that is really amuck is her low platelet count which is the direct cause of the bruising but that we cannot explain at the moment

Apparently, my vet cannot personally do a "coagulation" test We took blood again today which will be frozen and sent (in it's frozen state) to "vet france", our leading laboratory tomorrow. Apparently it is a very specific blood test that in 20 years experience, he has never had to perform (hence last weeks stuff-up ) I will have the coagulation test results on Thursday... This is the 1st one we have done since I first noticed the bruises over a month ago. Is the complicated "coagulation" test I'm currently having done the same as the "blood clotting" tests you took out each fortnight ? Was is a "Prothrombin time (PT)" test or the other blood clotting test, called partial thromboplastin time (PTT) ? Did the blood have to be frozen before hand ?... (I don't know what the one we are doing is called) She seems to have less bruises today and the ones that do appear seem to dissapear again within 24 hours. The vet doesn't want to do any other tests until we "finally" get Thursdays results back...

I'm sorry for hijacking the thread here ... Thank you Erny for your explanation.... LuvmyBC says in her original post that her girl lunges at other dogs... When on a lead and in the car, my boxer lunges, growls, spins on the spot, scratches the pavement with his back feet and is a general ass... When he isoff-leash though, he tends to "attack" (run at the dog and push into him/her) but if the other dog doesn't react, my boy settles down and then plays... In the beginning I got angry at his reactions and that just made him worse... Now I reassure him and he reacts a bit better. Could this be fear agression ?...

In all the time I've been on DOL, this is the first time I've visited this training forum I know there must be hundreds of threads on "fear agression" and how to "handle" it, but could someone point me in the right direction and for starters tell me exactly what fear agression actually is ?...

I'm going through hell trying to keep my girl quiet... As soon as she has 2 metres² in front of her, she starts doing zoomies. The cut on her foot is much better (6 days now...) but each time she "goes mad", she just starts it bleeding again. The strange thing is, as I mentioned above, the paw DOES stop bleeding pretty well as soon as she settles down One would think that this would mean that the blood IS cagulating correctly despite her being low on platelets . She finished her prescribed vitamin K treatment on Wednesday (25 days in all) but I'm wondering whether I should maybe keep her on it a bit longer Today she doesn't seem to have many bruises at all... Dare I hope she is improving or is it simply because yesterday I managed to keep her calm

Wow, suezija, this too is really interesting information... You say he needed 10 WEEKS treatment ! My vet is amazed that she still has bruising after 25 days Goodness, 10 weeks of vitK1 must have cost you a fortune Maybe my girl simply needs longer to recover :D I'll try to get some more info on that... Modesty will get you nowhere DBS, we know that the "smidgen" of knowledge you claim to have is absolutely worth its weight in gold Your dogs certainly have put you through the mills and I hope it calms down somewhat in the future, but I imagine your vet loves you :D I'v got part of the blood test results back from the vets... In fact, the tests were screwed up because the Laboratory forgot to tell my vet that the blood needed to be frozen for 24 hours prior to being transported and the laboratory hadn't sent a special container to keep the serum frozen during delivery... SO, for the moment we only have one analysis back which shows that my girl doesn't have nearly enough platelets and that she is apparently not manufacturing them fast enough. In the links DBS posted there seem to be many reasons as to why she may be lacking platelets, now we just have to narrow down which cause relates to my girl... We are going in on Monday to draw more blood for the "frozen" blood test... To be continued...

Oh Jodie, I'm so thrilled that Ollie Dog is feeling like playing again and is so much more energetic. It must be really uplifting for you to see him that way again after all these past weeks of relative lethargia. Please continue to keep us up to date, you just made my day :D

I've been using (and selling BTW) Andis AGC 2 speed and the AGR + cordless clippers here in France for 6 years but not for dogs FOR HORSES ! I know they are supposedly specialty canine clippers but my boss has been using his AGR= CORDLESS for a full clip on his show jumpers for years and years and I clip my horse 4 times a year with mine, without a problem... We use a tiny bit of Andis blade lubrifying oil once or twice per clip and use a light aerosol cold spray to keep the blades cool, all along the duration of the clip. I love Moser, but I prefer Andis PS : Oster blades are interchangeable with Andis blades...

Wow DBS, poor Morris, poor you... It must have been very traumatising. The vet was worried that my girl would bleed or bruise from yesterdays blood-drawing so they bandaged the site a bit more firmly than they normally would, which I removed an hour after getting home, as per instruction... There was only a teeny-weeny spot of blood on the cotton swab and this morning there is only a really small bruise where the needle went in... She did however scratch behind her ear last night which has led to a big purple blotch on her head... All very puzzling I religiously read the threads you PM'ed me which were very interesting but I think I can rule out any tick related illnesses as it is winter here (4 inches of snow today ) and due to the cold, I haven't seen a tick since November. On top of that, my kids are regularly treated against external parasites with Frontline which repels / impeaches the ticks from biting in the first place, as oposed to other treatments that kill the parasite only AFTER biting the animal. I hope the Dr Monique BOURDIN will be able to help shed some light on Saturday.
