  1. Hey Guys, Just putting some feelers out to see if there might be any interest in a DOLer bike cruise possibly mid to late next year? Am open to suggestions as to where the ride takes us, but the great ocean road has been mentioned Hope we can get some people interested so we can entice Fran and her lovely Casper down from QLD!!
  2. He actually likes the squirty bottle. He thinks its a game. He will be going to obedience ASAP, but we want to start working on his barking immediately
  3. Yeah I must admit that I worry about that too. Especially with Stay having missed so much socialization being taken from his mum so young. But he does seem to respond to be growled at, and having teeth bared at him. My dogs dont have 'fighty' personalities I guess you would say. They are just very much happy to be left alone by other dogs, so they prefer to walk away.
  4. Thanks for the replies. Stay is very active, but is also getting plenty of exercise. He loves chasing my kelpies around, and wrestling with my beagle. He also loves his frisbee, and just general investigating of the yard. As my house mate only moved in on friday, as you can imagine she is still trying to sort out all her things and clean up her old unit, so we havent had a chance to take him for a walk around here yet.
  5. Hi everyone My new house mate and her puppy moved in on Friday, and her and I need some tips and ideas to train the dog. Here is some history. Dog is a 5 month old blue heeler/corgi/JRT (and yes, he is strange looking!), his name is Stay. Stay was purchased from a BYB at 5weeks old by house mate's ex boyfriend (yes, she knows it was a bad idea now). Since getting him, house mate has lived in a 1 bedroom unit with no yard, so Stay has been inside with house mate pretty much 24/7, except when house mate is at work. He has had no formal training (which he will be getting soon), but here is a list of things we need to work on. -barking -mouthing -sooking -manners -dog socialisation -basic training etc The current main problem is his barking. He barks aaaaallll the time! Before house mate moved in, we had Stay out here a few times, and he was good as gold with me, no carrying on etc. We also changed his routine at the unit so it wouldn't be such a big adjustment. But now that Stay is out in the yard (and still getting plenty of attention - when he is quiet only) he still howls, barks and whinges pretty much constantly. If anyone has an idea that we can try to teach Stay that barking isn't the way to get attention both house mate and I would be forever grateful. Sorry about the long post. Erin
  6. I havent read through the entire thread, so sorry if this has been asked before, can OOB be done with Photoshop Elements? And if so, how?
  7. I use it on me. Works wonders when Im stressing.
  8. I think this last comment is uncalled for
  9. I might come along for a bit of a look if I'm not working
  10. slight improvement, have tried all the suggestions from everyone and they all seem to be working. You guys have no idea how much I appreciate your help. :D I will keep you all informed on how we go over the next few weeks
  11. I am not too familiar with ecollars and the methods that might be used to help this situation. If you are able to give me a brief rundown Myszka I would really appreciate it.
  12. Steve said to keep working at getting her to play with the toy that I hold. Which I still am trying.
  13. Lab lover, I dont throw the toy, thats the point. She waits in case I do. I attended a K9 force seminar not long after I got the dog, and because of that, I have always tried to get her to come up and play with the toy while I'm holding it. However, I have only had her since she was 6months old, so before that I have no idea of her history. ETA thankyou for the helpful suggestions Lablover, she does enjoy being brushed, so I will try using that as a bribe. Its funny, because she wont come for food, but once she is there she will take it anyways...
  14. Please? Anyone? Im really at a loss as to what to do!!
  15. She is a Kelpie and she is about 9 months old. I have had her since October and we hven't done any formal training, but I do lot with her at home on lead. She has always kept her distance like she is trying to herd me or in case I throw a toy. She will come inside if my other 2 dogs are inside where she is fed in a crate nd thats where she sleeps. Nekhbet; I have never encouraged her to stay away from me.
  16. Do you teach recall for a dog that will NOT come to you for any reason?! food, toys, praise, have tried a long lead, she will almost choke herself trying not to give in... Im at the end of my rope, as she wont even come inside to be fed and sleep anymore!
  17. My friend has two kids, and is home 99% of the time. The kids and my friend are in and out of the house playing with the dogs almost all day. He is taken for short walks several times a day, has plenty of toys and bones. A paddling pool isnt an option because of the young kids. The dog seems to bark most in the evenings, almost continually. He is allowed inside when the kids are in bed. My friend bought a husher this evening to try and deter the behaviour. She has also tried praising when he is quiet, but he tends to start barking again when she turns to walk away. There are other dogs in the neighbourhood which bark, and also a playground next door, so she expects him to bark, but its the evening when its the most problematic.
  18. Friend of mine's 6 month old JRT puppy, happy healthy dog, very well stimulated and socialised. However he will sit in the back yard and bark for no apparent reason for hours. Have tried verbal discipline, squirting with a spray of water, time out, ignoring it etc, but nothing has made any difference. Friend is getting desperate as her neighbours are complaining.
  19. What are peoples opinion on putting a bark collar on a 6 month old puppy?
  20. I agree! It was fantastic and Steve gave me a whole new view on training and I cant wait to put it into practice. I got very sunburnt though but it was worth it. And thanks to my lovely sis for looking after my Kip kid so I could rush off to work straight after.
