Anyone travelling to the above shows should bring mesh or shade cloth to cover the front of their vehicle. We have a locust plague up this way, don't imagine it will be gone by the weekend - trillions of the little devils! The windscreen gets bad enough but try picking them out of your grill and radiator. You can pick the locals, all shrouded in Shade cloth.

With regard to the reported outbreak in the Mallee/Wimmera area - I've just phoned both the Vets I use and while there was a slight increase in cases over the summer period, neither have seen any cases for over a month. The summer cases were mainly unvacc'd dogs. Mortality rate was very low.

Unless the breeder signed the transfer to the pet owner and the pet owner is willing to become a member of your State bod and the time restrictions on transferring haven't expired then there's not a thing you can do. Like I had to - 'fraid you will have to find another stud. Some of the best examples of a breed are running around in someones yard as a pet.
-
You just cry a lot! I think the OP would like to use the dog but I don't think there's anyway you can. Perhaps phone your State bod. and enquire. Had something of the same situation years back - best looking and bred dog I'd seen for ages - pet owner who wasn't interested in joining 'that lot' even when I offered to pay all expenses and this boy was the last of a line

I see a lot of people saying that they use "whatever" and haven't had any fleas for years. How do they know they'd have fleas if they didn't use anything? I've never used any of those monthly/ etc flea products. The only time I've had any was after a show one time and I used a rinse, washed all bedding, sprayed the dog areas and never saw another one. I haven't lived in a tick or heart worm area so dont use those and cant comment on that but surely dripping poison into your dog's system on a regular basis cant be good.

Min Pins are not usually the breed to leap up and lick everyone. Some lines are more standoff than others. I've had Mins who never accepted strangers although you can overcome this to a certain extent with careful restricted socialisation. I wouldn't push too hard, let the pup show you how much she wants to be included. Take her out and about but dont let people overwhelm her. I've got a 4 year old dog here who still has a rumble at visitors, even those he's known since 8wks and he's never gone to anyone for a pat, keeps his distance, but I've shown him and once on the lead he's fine. Will add - I've had others like this - Min Pin temperament!

That's lovely news Sheesh, I always have trouble working out the SILs, BILs, FILs.
-
You say your SIL and her hubby, I'm assuming it's your husband's brother? What's wrong with your husband - doesn't he see the wrong in this? How about he stand up for your principles and talk to his brother? Having said that, this sort of thing goes on far more than you think, evidence - all the dogs in the pounds. Look at all the kids in 'care' it's a sad world

Just had a call from the Ranger, he was going to come here but at the moment he's tied up with dogs attacking stock - poor fellow he has a huge territory to cover and doesn't know what to do about this local dog. Yes, he knows the dog was in the house and yes, the dog is entire. This is a very small place surrounded by sheep and wheat country and things are different here - the community is more 'family' than just 'people' and situations are handled differently from in a city. The old guy is a stubborn person but then I can be a b*tch where my dog's welfare is concerned so it will get sorted eventually. It's a nuisance having to keep the dogs locked in and go out with them for toileting and another concern is, not only the girl in season but Mick, Miniature Pinscher, really wants to kill this stranger on his property and he'd have no hope against a Kelpie.
-
Bit of a story here - I know the Ranger has impounded the dog a number of times but being a small community the old guy has a sob to the Shire President , 'my companion', 'no money for fines' 'etc' and gets the dog back. The ranger is very frustrated about the situation. And I'm getting madder by the minute I made the mistake of chasing the dog away to start with so now I cant get near it to catch it and do something.
-
Ok so I'm having a 'sound-off' sorry, there's no-one else to vent to! My Silky bitch is in season, right on at the moment. Two blocks away an old guy has a kelpie which roams around. He's been in trouble with the ranger many times. Last Thursday the dog was hanging around and I spent all day chasing it home. Jumps into my yard on Friday so I phone the ranger. Ranger phones owner and tells him AGAIN to keep it at home. Didn't see the dog over the weekend but I'm keeping mine inside and going out with her to be sure. Mine are locked inside during the night. At 7am this morning mine are going crazy - damm dog is in the house yard and has pushed the verandah door open. Chase it away and put mine in the car and go visit the owner, the dog is home and he says he will lock it in. Quite a few harsh words exchanged. I go to the shop on the way back, check my yards, let mine out of the car and this bl**dy dog comes out of my house! He had pushed the verandah door open and gone in through the dog door. Rang the ranger, of course, he's not there, left a message. Now we are barracaded in the house. Reckon I'm going to have to renew my gun licence and get a gun. grrrrr stupid owner is going to cost this dog dearly. Ok feel better now, vent over

I've been in this crazy dog world for over 50 years and still enjoy the day/s with friends and dogs as I did when I started out. I have made some life long friends, know a lot of nice people, have a lot of 'nodding' acquaintances, hopefully no enemies (that I know of) and totally ignore any rotten things said.

Ear-gluing - A Different Question Than Stitchs
pebbles replied to Trisven13's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I've had the occassional Min Pin bub who has 'dropped' an ear when teething. I haven't taped or glued but just massaged gently a couple of times a day along the folded in half ear from top to bottom . This has always worked but then again maybe the ear would have come right anyway. -
Travelling With Your Dog - Safety Question
pebbles replied to iggy mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have always travelled my dogs in crates. No problem with tangles, each dog has it's own space, any accidents are easily cleaned and for me, the best is that if for any reason, be it a breakdown or just change of plans you can put your dogs out of the car safely for shade, transfer to another vehicle if yours has to be towed or left somewhere. Had an incident a while ago, car caught on fire so I was able to just grab the crates and sit them a safe distance away without worrying about the dogs getting loose or having to find somewhere to tie them up. -
I didn't see the program so don't know if it was aimed at any particular group ie first time owners etc. but I can just picture some of our tough old farmers around this district being told they have to pass a test

Tonight we were in the lounge and there was a loud crash out the back. As usual Mick and Abby went racing out to check and I followed. Now usually our yard light is on but I hadn't been out there since dark so it wasn't turned on. When I got to the back door there were two little bods with their heads sticking out the doggy door barking like mad. Turned the yard light on and out they went ready to kill lol. Scared of the boogy man out in the dark? Think I'll take a big stick next time Guess the dark can be scary for a Min Pin and a Silky.

Many years ago I had a rough Collie who was part of the family. Never heard a growl from him regardless who came and went, loved everyone. One evening my car had broken down and I phoned a friend who came and picked me up. When we got to my place, we had a coffee and a chat with Socks just laying at my feet as usual after greeting the friend. As it had been a fair distance for friend to travel to get me as he was leaving I stuck some money in his shirt pocket for petrol. He didn't want it, I insisted and he tried to stick it in my pocket. He had my arm and I was trying to pull away and Socks flew at him, knocked him backwards against the wall then stood in front with every tooth showing. Scared the heck out of friend and me Friend visited many more times and Sock always greeted him happily but we never tried any play wrestling again!

Good heavens Anne - your post makes sense so that's the end of anything like that happening :D

When I got my first Champ Judging licence, first appointment was Interstate which was great - a totally new lot of dogs to Judge. My second appointment was in Melbourne and as it was the Group I had shown in for years I knew most of the dogs. At that time there was a particular long coated dog doing the majority of BIG winning and like a lot of others had often thought there must be ones to beat him so I went into the ring sure I 'd find something to challenge this dog. Oh boy, he was gorgous and went BIG again! Even years later when I had lots more judging experience he was still one of the best of that breed I went over. Had a few say later that I followed the trend but that boy deserved his win.

Is there anywhere one can view any minutes of meetings etc of the RSPCA where these proposals are formatted? Would be interested to see what expertise these people have and what, if any, organisations have representatives on these Committees.

Woops sorry, meant to put the Affie name in - Chandaras Tardish Arrakesh. Big brindle boy.
-
The Afghan which stands out for me, not a 'pretty' dog but his true Affie attitude and that floating movement when he 'owned' the ring made many stand and drool. Cocker Spaniel - Arthur Young's Larkana Laurentian, watched him many times and he never faltered. Min. Pinschers - Long time since I saw one with the correct hackney action, fore and aft. The three angle drop in front has unfortunately declined into a fling forward with far too much extension from the ankle and lack of drive behind. Any one who saw Gd Ch Barambah Baynilla would know what I want in a Min Pin. Aust. Silkies - Can't go past James Camac's 'Two Thumbs Up'!

As a member of the VCA/KCC for over 50 years, I'll 'third' it if you like!
