  1. Is this just for pet people? What if an experienced exhibitor wanted a pup to show, even if it's a different breed than they had shown before?
  2. Back in the dark ages when I decided to really get into the dog showing/breeding etc. I started a journal with debit and credit columns. After wearing out a number of red biros the book and idea were relegated to the bin before the OH happened to see it
  3. Many years ago the Council in the area we held shows on the Showgrounds were, through the Ground Committee who ran the showgrounds for the Council, going to put up our rent and apply a lot of conditions. First, as a ground user, we got a representative on the ground committee and made submissions on the Kennel Club's behalf. These then went to the Council meeting, where we turned up again, lol. and had our say again. From that and a couple more meetings the Club was guaranteed use of the Kennel Area, where we erected a Sec. office and meeting room, at a minimum rental which applied for over 20 years. So don't let them walk over you, make your case heard.
  4. Must have been scared he wouldn't get lunch if he didn't pay the dog
  5. Sorry, must have assumed too much lol. Glad to see the "if". In all the years I was secretary for a number of country clubs I only entered once under an international Judge (generally too busy and didn't feel it was fair on the dogs) and missed my call lol.
  6. Ok so I live out in the sticks but I hadn't heard about any new ruling stopping committee members from showing. Personally I think this a an insult to a Judge's integrity Yes, I know all about 'justice being seen to be done" but for heaven's sake it's a bl**dy dog show, no sheep stations involved. After 50+ years of dog showing I know the majority of Judges do an honest job (even though some may not agree with their decisions). When I was judging I would have been furious/hurt if a schedule came out with the stipulation that the committee etc. would not be showing.
  7. Things must have changed since I was involved with running country shows. The affiliation was granted with the stipulation that the shows were in the local area. The Ag Soc's had to jump through even more hoops with dog sections being held in conjunction with other Ag events on grounds used by the Ags. among other regulations. It's getting hard enough for the country clubs to get an entry without there being more held in the city.
  8. Thanks anyway, Whippetsmum, I'll just keep turning the house upside down, it has to be here somewhere
  9. I can't see any problem with it, time they at least tried something to tighten up on some 'breeders'. My membership will be due for renewal about 2 months before my licence is so photo will be 10 years old and that'll be better than a new one lol.
  10. Thanks, Whippetsmum, The Robert Cole one had drawn illustrations of the correct hackney movement along with some not so correct. It's these drawings I'm mainly after, are these in the article you have? Want to send them to someone who is taking convincing about movement lol. I KNOW I've got them here somewhere but that's what happens when you put things away carefully
  11. When someone is financially involved in puppy farming then you would expect that person to stick up for it!
  12. Some time ago there was a series in either NSW Gazette or Vic. Gazette by Robert Cole. think it was titled "You Be The Judge". I carefully kept the segment on Miniature Pinschers, so carefully that I can't find it! Does anyone happen to have a copy of this or maybe old Gazettes in the back of the cupboard although I can't say just when it was published. I've 'Googled' every combination I can think of - can get ones about other breeds but not the Min. Any other ideas on how I might find a copy? Any help appreciated.
  13. Sway,I know I did look at your cat. once but I didn't steal it, honest I wuvs ya,u no
  14. And perhaps the on line ones could be available to the poor old lady who hasn't got a dog to show but loves to keep up with who is showing and with what? Would be happy to pay a fee, don't want to be one of those 'stealers' lol.
  15. As a foundation member of that club which began at the Warragul Showgrounds and who many times set up the grounds alone it's disappointing to see another club disintergrating. There were four very healthy shows being run there during March each year. Some decided to move to Darnum and there's only two shows now, I think, and this one apparently gone to the Park. Oh well, the country people will all have to go to Melbourne soon if they want to show.
  16. Just curious - did anyone hear why it was held at the Park and not at Darnum?
  17. Wow, see you can learn something new everyday. I've never had close dealings with any Cav. people to have seen bubs and learnt about the changing mouths. All the breeds I've been involved with, any sign of an undershot and you'd run a mile, even looked carefully at any real youngun's that had a level bite as a bub. as these can go over. Thanks for the info. although I'm not judging any more it's good to learn. Reckon there'd be some nail-biting waiting to see if it would correct lol.
  18. Sorry, when I was judging I understood the Cav mouth was to be - Mouth: Jaws strong, with a perfect, regular and complete scissor bite, i.e. the upper teeth closely overlapping the lower -- Has it been altered? I don't know how Cav babies progress but I'd still be very wary of an undershot mouth at any age.
  19. I've seen and had minor overshot mouths correct but never an undershot. This covers Affies, Setters, Borders, Min Pins and a couple of other breeds. For showing I'd never consider a bub that was undershot.
  20. I had and was involved with Border Terriers for a lot of years. They were a great little dog, got on with any others as was necessary for their breed. Only barked when alerting. Unfortunately over the last years there has been a change of temperament through some lines and, as mentioned, CECS has been introduced to this country through imports. Some of the Borders around now I wouldn't want in my back yard so do all the research you can before deciding on a Border. Get the right dog/bitch and you will never regret it.
  21. I've shown in the Toy ring as well as other Groups for years now and I'd rather walk the bigger dogs through Group 1 than the Toys past some of the big guys - I generally carry the littlies past the exhibitors standing chatting with a big dog on a loose lead. As for the general public, I rather some leave their feral kids at home.
  22. I'm assuming that the barrier would have a steel frame right around it (probably appear dumb but I've only seen the pictures. Would it be possible to have the mesh net actually fixed to the frame so it's all one unit?
  23. I have a Min Pinscher dog who has episodes of what appears to be severe stomach cramps which has his back hunched, tummy and leg muscles taut and not wanting to move around. These attacks can last about 3/4 hours. Lots of test done and nothing showing. Of course, by the time we get to the Vets (150Ks away)he's perfectly fit again. I've kept track of food, excercise, etc. and am now thinking it may be stress. Mick hates machinery noise, motor mower, chain saw, grinder etc.and his previous attack was when some renovations were being done, electric saw, drill, hammering etc. that was about 2 months ago. Today I was drilling through metal sheeting and Mick had an attack so I'm looking to a stress factor. He will still eat and drink but sleeps heavily for a few hours once the noise has stopped and then is ok.
