A friend has one similar to the second one and she has to peg it into the ground, if her two Cavs both jump up on the same side together it tips over, it is fairly light.

Ok last one, this old girl is going to bed. Bite Me, no where did I mention 'belt', good heavens, grow up, girl. The world isn't all roses, there's a lot of bad dogs and kids out there and a good shake would probably do them the world of good ;) Nite ETA - To make you feel better, I'm over 70 and only groom for myself, wouldn't want to do any others.

Oh crap, some people need to get with it! Perhaps a few smacks and showing a bit of anger would make for better rounded dogs and kids if what I hear and see of some nowdays is any guide. Raised 7 kids and heaven knows how many dogs and was never ashamed to take any of them anywhere and, funny thing is, all the kids now agree they weren't traumatised by the few they got, all say they deserved it at the time. And don't start the rot that smacked kids will grow up to be violent to partners etc. Ok so I'm an elder but some old fashioned attention wouldn't go astray in a lot of areas

Sorry to be hijacking your thread Andisa but, honestly, some people have no idea what grooming for the public can mean. The main thing is to know dog temperament, learn to read them, know when to 'soft soap' and know when to be firm or even firmer. It's a bit like kids, there's a smack and then there's abuse - 2 totally different things! Also like kids they can be fine if parents/owners aren't around and spoilt brats if they are accompanied. Would like to know what some would do when confronted with an OES, totally vicious, had to pin him to a wall with a chair so the Vet could sedate him? Now that was an abused dog, rescued by a good neighbour and brought to me to clean up. He ended up a lovely friendly boy. Never abused a dog in my life, just knew what was necessary to make a dog feel better!

Thanks for that Tara. Makes one realise how time goes, to think those beauties were in their prime then and now so many have gone. What wonderful work they do, certainly the unsung heros.

My poor Dad spent a lot of time at the movies with me as a kid. No TV or DVD's back then so there were quite a lot of outings - all the Lassie movies, 'My Friend Flicka' and the follow-ups to that one, 'Black Beauty', 'National Velvet', 'Florian' and some I can't remember the names of but can still remember the story line. Looking forward to seeing 'Red Dog' especially as I know the breeder of the 'star'.

Hey, Lavendergirl, I'd guess you aren't a groomer? I did it for years and some dogs are absolute little shites and some are big shites! That's often why the groomers get the job 'cause the owner cant be bothered to teach the dog to be handled and groomed. My big mistake when I started was letting one owner stay while I did her 'precious', snappy, snarling little dear. One day the owner had to go to the loo up the street, dog got a good shaking, plonked back on the table, roared at and it was 'nearly' an angel after that lol.

Douse those saggy boobies that can go with a falsie with brown vinegar a couple of times a day and that should shrink 'em. I was told this by a breeder many years ago, used it on my Min Pin who would insist on a falsie nearly every time and it worked. First season I didn't know this trick and her boobs were enormous.

Just a bit OT - does anyone remember the days way back when the GSD was the 'bad' breed? My Mother would even cross the road if there was one around and had me scared silly of them! There were some reported attacks but possible more as the news didn't get around like now. I remember that any dog that vaguely looked like a GSD was labeled as such. Same situation now with the PB's.

James might just have another to follow in Tommy's footsteps, go the Silkies!! Tambaqui - Congrats on your Minor in Group.

I answered the poll 'the way it was'lol. Nothing kept me home from a show years back but now I've turned into a weather wooze - too hot, too cold, too wet and this little old girl is home. I showed Afghans, Rough Collies, Border Terriers over the years and have plowed through some horrendous weather. Showing the Affies and Collies, found I just couldn't run in gumboots so those were bare footed excursions. Remember after one show stopping at a 24hr supermarket to buy a whole set of clothes as the 2 changes I had with me were dripping and it was a 3 hour drive home. But it was fun

Years ago I had a semi-luxury sedan but after taking a friend to a dog show some distance away I went out the following week and bought a Ford Ecovan and have had vans since. The experience of having 1 Gordon Setter, 2 Border Terriers and 5 Miniature Pinschers, Borders and Mins crated, in the back seat was not so good lol. I take the rear seat out of the van, heaps of room for lots of dog crates and also a bed for me. Must admit I never lock doors as the time one van burst into flame I'd never have had time to get the dogs out. Love the crates as in the fire incident I was able to just haul the crates out with the dogs in and put them on the side without having to worry about unclipping harnesses and the finding somewhere to tether the dogs. The dogs were all I managed to get out, lost everything else, even my smokes and, boy, did I need a ciggie!

A few years ago when I had crazy neighbours (they moved, thank goodness) they went away for a few days in the height of summer, (nearly 40d) and left a large dog locked in a tin shed. After hearing it crying for 24 hours I went and checked. Poor thing had no water or food so I took it into my place. The next episode was they went away again, this time for a week, left a Pom pup tied on the back verandah (big dog had vanished by this time). More crying and squealing so collected this one. They came back, looked for the pup, came into my place and got a big earful. They reported me to the police for trespass. The police called in and when they heard what happened they said they could charge them with cruelty. Against the law to leave dogs unattended. I'd be risking it anytime to help any animal.

Well Thank You Very Much You Thieving ****

It's sure annoying when things vanish, sorry to hear about your pen. Reckon there's always those few around who just can't help themselves but we hear about it more often now through forums etc. Forty years ago when I was showing Affies I would take my Mason Pearson brush into the ring and put it next to me when stacking. At a big country show I did this one day, stacked the dog, went to grab the brush for a final flip over and it was 'GONE'. Some sweetie must have ducked under the rope and pinched it - lucky we didn't have PC's back then, the whole world would have heard about it. Kept the new one in my slacks pocket after that but, boy, had some uncomfortable moments when I bent over the dogs lol. -
Would a heat lamp hung above their area work? Would be safer and eliminate the cleaning aspect.

Guess I'm going to be one-out on this The lady obviously didn't know a great deal about breeds and wouldn't know that the OP was experienced, all she saw was a dog out in the rain and cold but she did have the dog's welfare at heart, even if misguided. I've struck a few like that and always try to give them a few clues about the breed, they're only trying to be helpful.

The 'fix the bum, Mum' actions aren't real good when you're walking the dogs with a visitor who is totally 'non-doggy'.

Private Conformation Trainers Wgtn? Advice?
pebbles replied to Maddy27's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hi Rob, your girl may have something out and a visit to a Chiro could solve the problem. Just a couple of things to look at before going - when she is free, running in the yard and alerts to something, how does she stand then? Will she stand alert, properly on her own? Any sign of the hind action being 'off'? This could show pain somewhere. Another thing to try instead of pulling her back legs back- hope you're strong - lift her front end just off the ground and move forward slowly until the hind is where you want it then slowly lower the front to the ground, hope that makes sense! The legs mightn't be exactly in the right places but a bit of practise and lots of encouragement to her to 'stay'/'stand'. Will she free stack for bait or a toy, also worth a try. She's only a baby yet and might just be being difficult. Good luck. -
Mick always sleeps under the doona in the bed, Abby is a good weather barometer - she starts off on the end of the bed and I can tell if it's going to be a cold morning, early hours I'll get a nudge to lift up the doona and little Miss gets under and snuggles up to keep warm.

Melbourne Woman Defies Council Orders To Give Up 11 Of Her 23 Pets
pebbles replied to Maddy's topic in In The News
The way I read it is that the lady's house burned down and she is living with a friend. If her house is going to be rebuilt then she would be over the limit of dogs by three and there's one odd cat if the lady she is with owns four. I see there's a maximum of 4 of each species to a property but if it's only temporary then I'd be on her side. JMHO.
