Not sure if this has changed over time but some while ago there was a case re ownership and the VCA (KCC then) papers were deemed as identification not ownership papers.

Yep, at the beach with a friend and dogs and her Irish Setter just went straight in and started swimming out. We had to race up the beach, find a guy with a boat who went out and rescued him. Last time he ever went on the beach without a long lead on!

Wasn't there a topic a while back as to who actually 'owns' Xrays? I think it was decided that the Vet 'owns' them for a certain number of years. Does this make any difference?

Unfortunatly this can happen. Friend lost a Boxer down a wombat hole. Hole collapsed on the dog and friend couldn't dig him out. Sorry if this has happened to your dog.

I give our Ranger a big 'thumbs-up', he's great

Lots of roos in the native bush area where I often walk the dogs, safely on lead after one episode of a dog with good recall deciding to go bush, came back some hours later. I've got a sure way to scare any off - I just sing (enough to scare anything) and hear them go thumping away in the opposite direction.

Horrie the Wog Dog - All the Lassie series, still have a read of the 1945 edition of 'Lassie Come Home'. 'Great Dog Stories of Australia and New Zealand' mainly about working dogs. Actually any 'doggy' books get a read. Interesting foreword in 'Great Dog Stories' 1968 - conclusion of foreword by Jack Pollard -- "Dogs are not having an easy time in many parts of Australia and New Zealand. with licensed dog catchers spreading fast. New expressways and more motorists provide hazards all their own. even for alert, well-disciplined dogs. Before they are pushed so far into the bush that only countrymen will know them, this is a reminder of what many of them have done for us." Maybe a prophesy?

One Miniature Pinscher, 'Mickey' and one Aussie Silky Terrier 'Abby'. Started many years ago with big dogs, Affies, Collies, as I've got older the dogs have got smaller and this is the first time I've only had 2 dogs (that may change lol).

A bit each way - the Malt and the English Setter.

Great results so far, thanks to all the reporters. (I was hoping Tommy would get a look in this year)

Well, it does make the overall entry number look good. Would be interesting to know just how many conformation entries there are? I did notice in the results that quite a few breeds had a lot of single class entries - this in some breeds where I would have expected more dogs.(If that makes sense lol.)

Would love to see the Silky results if anyone can get them please. -
If at all possible space wise I prefer crates, so much easier if you have to remove the dog/s from the vehicle in a hurry for any reason - ie accident, car catching on fire which happened to me a while back, even a breakdown, dogs can be safely moved to some shade. My Min Pin baby travelled home from Mt Gambier to the Mallee in a crate with no problem, just stopped ever now and then for a wee break for him and the other 2 I had with me (in crates as well).

What Colour Is 'liver': Cooked Or Raw?
pebbles replied to sandgrubber's topic in General Dog Discussion
Miniature Pinschers - Black, blue, chocolate, with the appropriate tan markings and solid red in various shades. eta - My girl in my avatar was a chocolate with tan markings. -
Stooopid guy up the road has another dog. His previous Kelpie types all ended up in the pound as they were rather agro to other dogs, made walking mine a bit hair raising at times as they were always loose. So we go walking and met up with his new one, a Border Collie youngster. This one has a great working instinct, ran over to us.then started to try and round us up, circling in tighter circles. My two will normally listen to me and ignore other dogs but this was a bit too much. I had leads wrapped around my legs with two leaping lunatics on the ends, barking their heads off. Border just kept circling, I kept telling it to go home, my guys kept tying me and themselves in knots. Ended sitting on my bum on the road, throwing stones at the Border. He eventually gave up and left, I'm just thankful that there wasn't anyone around to see my great display

Ouch, don't think I'll ever complain about my Vet costs again. I'll only whinge about the cost of petrol for the 300k round trip

A few examples of judging - As secretary of an Ag show, one year I was stuck for one Group judge and ended up getting someone who had the reputation of being facey. I was told by a lot of exhibitors that this person wouldn't draw an entry - ended up being the biggest entry for that Group for years Word was spread by one exhibitor that "no good anyone entering this particular country show as he/she had it sown up, friend of the judge for years". So gathered up a few dogs and made the trip, came home with BIG and Baby in Group - Other exhibitor came home with 'egg on face' My first Champ. judging appointment - Group I showed in and one exhibitor with a heavily coated breed was always very prominent. Did he/she know all these Judges? I had a large number to judge and the best dog (IMO) was that exhibitors! So maybe I was accused of being 'facey'? ;) A while ago I was showing a top winning girl, seldom came home without a fringy. Friend(?) said it was because I knew the Judges! Where I showed had 90% Interstate Judges, didn't know any of them, the couple of Vic Judges that did judge in that circuit, didn't do much under them. Stewarded for a Judge who told me early in the breeds 'that is my Group winner'! Came to Group and exhibitor missed her call - poor Judge had to find another BIG There's quite a few more stories but guess I've bored you long enough - Dog Showing is a funny game - essential you have a sense of humour :D

I thought it was quite funny too. Don't think I'm any of what was suggested, just old and weak ;) so the littlies suit me fine. Had big dogs earlier and do love them but when a certain person got me to hold a really big dog for her at a show one day then I knew just how old and weak I was

Unable To Keep Dog Thats Under A Contract
pebbles replied to pinkpuppy's topic in General Dog Discussion
Sorry, I can't see anything unfair about it - you signed the contract. If one of the dog's legs fell off or it grew two heads then I consider that unfair but because you haven't made the time to train this pup properly then the contract should be adhered to. -
Puppy Toilet Training Timeframe Poll (for 8-14 Weeks Old Puppy)
pebbles replied to GrumpySmurf's topic in Puppy Chat
Over the years mine have probably been about average. When I got Ben, Border Terrier, he learnt very quickly, only problem was that I couldn't get him to let me know if the door was shut and I wasn't in that room so there'd be a puddle right next to the door. Put in a doggy door and fixed that. Since then the newies learn very easily and take themselves out when necessary. Only drawback was when I housesat for a friend who doesn't have a dog door, I had to keep letting my guys out as they couldn't find the hole to let themselves out -
The grooming, pet supply and food shop I opened was the first one within about 60k's so I started with pets which hadn't been groomed for a long time and most had no manners. I guess it was a case of "Ohh a grooming parlour, let's take the dog". A good one was a farmer who brought in his working Border Collie, never had a brush near it in it's life but he was going to the Ag sheep trials so thought it would be nice to have a glamorous dog Three hours later it wasn't looking too bad With some of the really disgusting ones I charged a lot first time then told the owners if they brought them back in 5/6 weeks it would be half price, that generally worked. The Vet and I did an OES which was pathetic, as well as being vicious, that was the only one I ever had to sedate, found a chain embedded in it's neck. Doing a Malt, matted to the skin, going carefully along the tail and it fell off, not magotty thank heavens, just a shorter tail hugely matted. Had an Afghan that couldn't sit down properly, the body hair was matted to the hind leg hair, he looked very relieved when that was freed. A greyhound trainer would bring his dog for a bath before a race, easy, until the night he had 5 greys racing Had one 'oops' clip, wending my way through the matts, easing the scissors through the worst, accidently cut off the one hind dew claw, lots of blood, luckily the Vet was free and came and did a quick fix. There were a lot of lovely dogs and owners, it was great to trim, wash and tidy those up. Yep, might write a book about the grooming days and combine it with some showing events, might be in strife though
