A general note for toilet training young pups - it really does take time. Also, not all pups are the same, they are all unique individuals and some are quicker to learn than others. From my experience, it takes time and a lot of patience, perseverance and consistency. You may get the odd pup that you'd swear has walked this earth before who never has an accident! But generally - it takes time. jezebel you said in your original post that your pup is 10 weeks old and you've had her for 2 weeks (so she was 8 wks old when you took her home). If I were you I really would not be worried that she hasn't "got it" yet at only 10 wks of age. That still really is very young It is natural instinct for pups not to toilet their bed area, so I would expect her to move away form her bed and toilet on the newspaper anyway. My current litter started doing that at 3-4 weeks old Newspaper trained she may have been at her breeder's place, but her new home is a whole different set up and she has to adjust to the new routine. I'd be inclined to do away with the newspaper theory all together and just watch her like a hawk while inside on the carpet, but make OUTSIDE on the lawn (or sand or whatever) the toilet place. Take her there very often, it will feel like all you do is take her out to the toilet but it will be worth it. When she goes, make much fuss of her! Tell her how wonderful she is. You can also teach a command. I teach my pups "wees" when they wee and "poos" when they poo! Eventually you can take them outside, or on a lead out anywhere, and they will toilet on "command". I noticed you said she has a crate, so that is also a tool to help you with toilet training. When you can't watch her 100%, crate her. After 30 mins or an hour get her out but take her straight outside. Once she has done her business and you've made a huge fuss of her, she can come back inside to play. Then it's sleep time so back in the crate... then get up time so back outside... so on & so forth Good luck - given time I'm sure she'll get the hang of it

You Maybe Gone, But Never From Our Hearts Jenna
Meriment replied to Joey Rocks My World's topic in Rainbow Bridge
MSJ, at times like these previously, I went to the Chemist and bought myself some "sleep gel" tablets. Not like full on sleeping tablets - these are just over the counter, but I found they did help. And/or a wee nip of something alcoholic 30 mins before bed time ;) If you can get to sleeping almost properly, that will help you with your grieving & recovery. Sleep deprivation is no fun at the *best* of times :D :D -
You Maybe Gone, But Never From Our Hearts Jenna

Was thinking of you yesterday MSJ and watching the clock, with a heavy heart I knew the sad hour had arrived. I cried for you then and I now reading your tribute to Jenna here. Your penultimate heartbreak & anguish can only heal with time, and it will take a long while. Cry whenever you need to - it helps to let it out. Take comfort from Michael and Joey and know that Jenna is watching over you today and always. RIP Sweet Jenna  you now have your angel wings and feel no more pain -

MJS, you're not alone in your heartbreak and your tears, we are all feeling it for you and I cry as I type this You have made the right decision and I hope you can find some comfort in that. Cherish the last hours you have with your lovely girl, spoil her, love her and cuddle her, and when the time comes tomorrow, know there are many many people thinking of you and sending their heartfelt sympathies and loving farewells to Jenna. -

Oh MSJ, how utterly heartbreaking and gutwrenching your story is. I sit here with tears streaming down my face I wish you all the strength & courage you can muster to get you through this very sad time -
Yeah they are really good, they took care of my baby puppy for me and I recall the brochure had a lot of nice options

Hi Mel, Is it Lawnswood you're going through? Claire

That's very sad news :D So sorry to hear this, but at least she knows no pain now. RIP Brodie

I can sympathise ;) big :D to you sheltielover and anyone else going through this same thing. I have Roxy in a velvet pouch inside a hand crafted, lacquered wooden box on the bookshelf in our entrance hall. She only moved there a little while ago, before then she was in our bedroom. When we moved house, Roxy was the last thing to leave. I left her up on the shelf where she used to reside in our old place... so she could watch over proceedings of the move and only when we closed the door behind us for the last time did she ride on my lap in the car up to the new house . When I had to have a pup from my first litter PTS at 4 wks of age, I had her ashes come home in a velvet pouch and because she was so young, and because Roxy never got to have any babies of her own, I put "Bella" in the same box with Roxy, so now they have each other for company. Yep it all sounds crazy. But only to those who haven't been there ;) RIP all our beautiful babies
-
Awww Mel, glad to see you haven't lost your sense of humour I have my Roxy in the most lovely wooden laquered box, which was made for me, so haven't had the dilemma of choosing an Urn... yet. Either way I'm sure it will be lovely and I know exactly what you mean by wanting them back home with you. Only then can you rest easy. Take care

So sorry Mel

Just read this thread from start to finish. Don't have anything to add, except to you for asking for help and being so committed to sorting out his "little issues" Good luck with everything and enjoy your puppy :D

Price For Teeth Cleaning
Meriment replied to Owned by Shelties's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Sheltilover, I can sympathise. My dogs all eat exactly the same diet; two of them have beautiful pearly whites (mother & son), whereas my other bitch's teeth always need attention. The vet told me that, just like people, they are all different and some have different acid levels, saliva, etc. ETA: After you've had them cleaned at the vet, clean them yourself once or twice a week with a doggy toothbrush & toothpaste and that should keep them ship-shape -
Price For Teeth Cleaning
Meriment replied to Owned by Shelties's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Seems a bit steep. I'm in WA so can't help with vets in Geelong, but I paid $150 for a full clean... OK that had breeder discount, so perhaps more like $200 but certainly not $400  -
I want to start obedience with my young bloke - he's coming up 8 mths old. And will alternate between him and my girl who I eventually want to do agility with. I'm almost 100% certain that I'll be going to the Perth club, although I've heard good things about Cloverdale as well. Decisions decisions!!

Hey GSD - Morley to Carine is roughly 18 km's taking about 25 mins. Prob the same as if not further than Vic Park I'd say. Morley/Dianella/Yokine etc is fairly central to most places

Yup. Boxagirl makes it an on going joke that I never got to training this year after weeks of saying "not this week, next week... nope not this week either" It never happened. Other things on my agenda. But I really really do aim to be there next year!! It'll be good to finally meet a few DOLers
