Bahahaha! That last outtake is a classic! And I love the first bubblegum one too. I'm completely stuck on which one to enter. I like the first because it looks like Lola is worried about the sky falling, but in the larger file (without Flickr's oversharpening) she is quite OOF. I like the second because Harry is looking up. And I like the third because it is completely goofy, but they look more dopey than afraid. So I don't know. Argh.

I attempted the sound one again, still not what I was hoping for, but it will have to do. I was kind of channelling the old 'Roadrunner' cartoons, you know when the coyote holds up a sign when something heavy is about to fall on his head? I need a plain brick wall or something, but it just wasn't going to happen.

The 1.8 is quite plastic fantastic and I would assume, not as lovely and sharp as the 1.4. That said, I love my 1.8 and use it all the time (but that's because it's all I have except kit lenses).

If you want a decent shot for a portrait, you need to take the shot outside in natural light (but not full sun), preferably with the sun behind you. Take it from eye level. Dogs with dark muzzles can be difficult, I have trouble with exposure on Lola sometimes because of her dark face and light body. The shot above doesn't look too dark, but you've lost some detail around the left eye. If you get a good shot but it's still too dark printed, try lightening it up in one of the editing programs and get it printed again.

Thanks girls I'm so glad I tried it again. I attempted my sound one today, which was a fail and I have no idea what to do for the confetti one.

Nawwww Thanks! I really wish I could find some more of those blocks. Oh the words I could spell....

Attempted the incense brief again, this time with a slower shutter speed and more props I'm happier with this version, although I kind of wish it could be submitted in colour.

Sunday is market day for me.

I would love the 105mm, but just don't have the funds at the moment.

Oops, late and unispired this week: I love the tribute ideas! I must try to read the discussion in the group beforehand

The Olympus is negligible, depending upon your settings. Certainly a MAJOR difference from my Sony Cyber-Shot. I found it worse on my Olympus than my Lumix.

They're talking about shutter lag and all P&S cameras will have that. ETA Outside in natural light it is faster, inside in the dark - it srtuggles. You need to know the limits and work within them. Hell, even most DSLRs will struggle in low light unless you bump the ISO up and then it's possible that the images will be noisy.
-
All my web copies are JPEG too. I don't know that many point and shoot cameras give you the option of shooting in RAW anyway. My Lumix doesn't and that's a pretty decent little P&S.

Love that last one Bec

Nice work Shell. I've been trawling the entries on the site. Ever get the feeling that you shouldn't have bothered?

I attempted the bubblegum brief today. Hungover friend that can't blow bubbles Awkward in front of the camera husband:

I read on the Flickr page that it must be incense (an email someone got from Canon), but I guess if they can't see it, they wouldn't know. Incense has a very distinct type of smoke though. I'm going to try tonight with a long exposure.
-
Did it get sent to your old address? That's what happened to me.
-
Ok, I am completely over incense. Blerk. Troubles: - Getting a good amount of smoke - Getting it visible (for the rocket, I had a black back drop with white stars, but the smoke was pretty much invisible against it) - Getting the smoke in focus - Getting enough light (I had to bump up the ISO which has made my images noisy) So here are my finalists:
-
Good luck with the bubblegum one today. Will you share? So this afternoon I discovered two things: (1) My bubblegum model can't blow bubbles. (2) Cheap incense smells like burning twigs, so now my house smells like a campsite.
-
I might try that one this afternoon when I have sleeping children. I've roped my bestie into the bubblegum one tomorrow
-
Glad it's not just me. Did you get better smoke from the $2 shop version?
-
Is anyone else having issues with the complete lack of smoke from the incense?

Timely thread, Rocco. I have no idea about dog show photography, so I won't comment on that. But I do know the pricing stuff is creating waves in the industry - with the accessibility of DSLRs and photoshop (selective colouring anyone?), it's easier than ever to become a 'photographer' (which I love, because I am one of those newcomers!). For now, I am much too inexperienced to start a business and to be honest, entirely hesistant to swim with the sharks. But if I ever do, I can guarantee that I will be pricing so that I actually make money from my business.
