What settings are you using and are you shooting in RAW? Not in RAW - but i can change that if it helps I think i have worked it out though - i will have a play tomorrow and see. And then i will pic your brains! Thankyou for asking because when i checked what it was i had it on AI Focus and i usually shoot on AI Servo Not sure if that is the issue No, shooting in RAW makes images look softer, that's why I thought you may have switched. Also shooting really wide open etc. Anyway, it could well be the AI setting.

Thank you Camera on a tripod, self timer on. Then I used flash, off to the right (held by my husband and aimed at me - kind of cheating, I know). Then I had to edit out his arm and the flash, because it was just in the edge of the frame on the right. There was a post box I got rid of too, but mostly it really was that dark.

She is putting you and your friend in a really crappy position. I hate it when people say they aren't 'photo people', they are just trying to cheap out on hiring a professional. Try turning the speedlight around so it fires over behind the back of your head. You will blind the people behind you, but I get the best results that way.
