  1. yes they are small, my boy weighs less than 5 kgs but he is a tough little critter and a sturdy build. My friend who has pomeranians won't let hers on the couch because she says they will break their leg if they jump off - I have no concern with that with my griffon, he jumps up and down off with no problems. as I said his best mate is a tall coolie and they rumble and chase each other - he certainly doesn't show any signs of being tiny or fragile then - he gives as good as he gets. when i was thinking of getting a show dog I thought hard and long about what to get as I did want to get a little dog - i have four other dogs, two goldens and two coolies so I needed a "tough" dog - the griffon ended up ticking all boxes - my griffon breeder also breeds golden retreivers and finds the two breeds are a good combination. Naturally I don't leave my small dog with my larger dogs unless I am around and I think the situation that OP was talking about is the same I was thinking more about with kids. They just always look so delicate to me! But that's probably because my two are built like bricks.
  2. Canon or Nikon. While the 50mm 1.8 technically isn't a macro lens, it still works quite well for that purpose(I use it at weddings to photograph rings and flowers). It's such a cheap lens. Examples are here: http://www.katietakesapicture.com.au/?p=377
  3. Yep, they are on Flickr :) 52 Weeks of Selfies ETA oops - made it a linky instead.
  4. I started out with Nikon for the same reason. I actually learnt on a Pentax and the dials are similar, so Nikon was the natural choice.
  5. Congratulations and welcome to the Darkside, Kuma
  6. Well, thank you. But don't leave - how do you think I started? Here, on DOL :)
  7. Discovering new sources of light opens up a whole new world, doesn't it? Here is mine: Seven 'She shows no emotion at all, Stares into space like a dead china doll...' - Elliot Smith
  8. I initially had it stacked up on a pile of books, but it still wasn't high enough, so I asked my OH to hold it. It literally took a second, because I only took the one. My head is in front of the masking tape, so I didn't need to edit it out :) In your case, I would try leaving the spotlight on, turn your face towards it and then wave the sparklers around. You will get motion blur in your face though if you do a long exposure.
  9. To get a replacement cert, you'd have to post in the one you have anyway.
  10. Love it Gila! Yes, you may :) It is a long exposure - one second. So camera on tripod. I also had to stick a bit of masking tape on the wall behind my head, so the camera knew where to focus. ISO 400 f/6.3 (I think), but I should have gone higher, because I am slightly OOF. I wanted the lights to glow, so knew it had to be a long exposure, but there was no where near enough light to see my face. I tried the flash (off camera), but that was too much light, so I had a torch aimed at my face (which I also needed to light the masking tape on the wall, otherwise it was too dark for the auto focus). Does that all make sense? Try with a different light source. On camera flash never looks great. As you've probably noticed, I've been trying to push myself and experiment with light a lot. It's amazing what can be done.
  11. Six 'It must be love, Love, Love...' - Madness
  12. Well, I'm glad you have continued :D I have been using OCF in almost all of my selfies. This week I used a torch  I am really trying to push myself with the technical aspect. Flash really opens a whole new world, doesn't it?
  13. I barely touch my pugs nose roll. Only after a bath to make sure it's dry. We've never had a problem.
  14. Only the breeder can change the dogs name. If your name and address details are incorrect, you may have to pay for a replacement certificate - depending on whose fault it is (Dogs QLD or the breeder).
  15. I love stalking this thread and I do it frequently. But I just had to say - Helen, your images are always so very creative and you always pull them off. I love your processing, I love the texture and I love love love that seagull image :)
  16. No. I feel it falls under the heading of 'Things Crazy Dog People Do' :p
  17. I am always asking myself why I bought a white dog...
  18. Cool! Do you do the layering in something like Photoshop? Can it be done in Lightroom? Yep, PS. You can't work with layers in LR (but I do everything else in LR - the fine tuning in PS).
  19. Nice processing :) It's three shots, layered over each other.
  20. Five 'But these monsters follow me around...' - Something For Kate
  21. Cute Froggy MTD! He looks a funny texture? I'm so used to the smooth skinned frogs. Fine actually, much better than I thought  He took it all in his stride, so I did too. Nice car. I always love the colours in your photos :) Gosh, highschool. I don't know if I'll ever be ready for that! Eeep - that second plane shot looks really scary!
